Thato's arrival back in town throws off Daniel and Nadia's relationship. Rumours start spreading like wildfire at Scandal and Nadia has to make a decision and start putting out the flames. Thato starts to make plans to move out of Eddie's flat. Mangi finds a fresh purpose from an unexpected source.

Fana convinces Eddie to grant Sakhani an interview. Alex begins to mull over the possibility of Vusi having been murdered. Meanwhile, Mangi fears, if Vusi was killed, someone he cared most about may be guilty. Jay-Jay invites Thato and Busi to move in with him. Samantha seems determined to go through with her resignation.

Alex is determined to investigate the circumstances surrounding Vusi's death. The talk making the rounds that Samantha and Andrew are leaving NZH to start their own publication is put to rest. Jay-Jay's mother moves in with him, which might be a mistake. Andrew forgives Samantha and tells her they should buy the house. Eddie has second thoughts about printing the Laqhasha article.

Alex tries to make peace with Morongwe but things don't go down as planned. The Zwane's want to welcome Busi into the family, sans Thato. Eddie makes a promise that he has no intention of fulfilling to Sakhani.

Enraged by Eddie's inaction, Sakhani takes the Newsroom hostage. Mangi discovers a letter that suggests Vusi was his real father. Samantha and Andrew part in the morning on bad terms only hours before Andrew's life is placed in grave danger. A hostage situation ensues and one of the hostages is shot.

Tino is in critical condition but Sakhani refuses to let any of the hostages go. Alex manages to contact Sakhani by phone and by default becomes the hostage negotiator. Sakhani demands a press conference and Alex agrees to arrange it. The police and media arrive and the story goes live on TV.

The hostage drama continues. Will death come to the Newsroom? Sakhani decides to release a hostage, but which one will he choose? Morongwe, armed and dangerous, is poised to make her move. Tensions run high in reception, and Alex struggles to maintain control.

Andrew's bravery gets the better of him and he puts his friends at risk. Tino is losing blood fast and time's running out for him. Alex tries to arrange a hostage exchange and finds a surprise candidate.

The hostage crisis deepens when Laqhasha doesn't arrive as demanded. Sakhani irrationally thinks Thato is a policewoman, and threatens to kill her until Daniel steps in with an incredible piece of information. Tino's life is at stake as he continues to bleed to death. With the others locked away in the boardroom, Abigail reveals to Sakhani that she is Laqhasha. When Sakhani's guard is lowered, Morongwe puts an end to the crisis.

Alex suspects there's more to the shooting than Morongwe's letting on. Daniel considers allowing Thato to stay in Stan's house. Mangi reveals his doubts about Stan being his father to Daniel. Thoko's adamant she doesn't want Thato to ever be a Zwane. Morongwe insists that Abigail fulfills her end of their deal.

Samantha persuades a reluctant Andrew to keep the pregnancy a secret for the time being, but Jay-Jay overhears the conversation, and a misunderstanding ensues. Jay-Jay and Nhlanhla attempt to stage an intervention to 'save' Samantha and Andrew's marriage. Abigail reaffirms that she's cancelling Morongwe's debt, but this just raises further suspicions from Alex. Daniel decides that Thato's inhlawulo (damages money) should properly go to Stan. Tino recovers from his coma just long enough to reveal a deadly secret.

Abigail and Shakira continue their vigil by Tino's bedside. Daniel gets involved with the inhlawulo, much to Jay-Jay's distress. Andrew's starting to get broody, but Samantha isn't interested in changing.

Andrew sets down the law …no more social functions for Sam! Morongwe evades Alex's suspicious questions but he is not appeased. Daniel rejects the inhlawulo from the Zwane's as Stan deserves better. Thato will not let Daniel spoil things for her but is it too late? Mangi freaks out in Tino's hospital room. Morongwe will not let Abigail destroy her marriage and her reputation.

Tino has finally emerged from his coma and seems to be making a recovery. Shakira tries to find out if he remembers what he said to her about Abigail when he briefly emerged from his coma earlier. Everyone is picking up the pieces from the bombshell Daniel has dropped about demanding the inhlawulo for Stan. Jay-Jay of all people is not impressed and goes out of his way to let Daniel know it. Andrew seizes on the idea to push a regular exercise walk for the staff of NZH.

Abigail convinces Morongwe to distract Alex from nosing around in her affairs by encouraging him to pursue an investigation into Vusi's death. Jay-Jay decides to fork out the money for Busi, but Thoko won't negotiate until Thato produces Busi's umbilical cord. Daniel insists that he is getting a divorce when Nadia confronts him about Letitia's intentions of hosting an anniversary party. When Samantha experiences her first bout of morning sickness, it hits her that she's on the brink of motherhood.

When Nadia's house is almost burgled, Samantha starts thinking about her and her growing family's safety. Thato threatens to reveal something out of Daniel's past, so he agrees to split the inhlawulo money with her, but everything goes wrong when the Nyathi's meets the Zwane's. Morongwe worries about Abigail bringing Shakira into her confidence, while Shakira questions Abigail about her mysterious past. Mangi worries that his mother and father may have been involved in Vusi's murder. Tino suspects his mother has ties to Laqhasha.

Convinced that she is somehow connected to Laqhasha, Tino starts avoiding his mother after he gets out of hospital. Thato is devastated after Jay-Jay informs her of the Zwane's wishes to take Busi to KZN straight after the imbeleko ceremony. Samantha is traumatized after she is caught in a botched hi-jacking incident. Palesa is left feeling that she poked her nose where it doesn't belong when Nadia reprimands her for suggesting Daniel isn't getting a divorce.

Samantha continues to hide the truth from Andrew about her attack, much to Nadia's dismay. Despite her protestations that she's fine, it seems like she may eventually crack from the strain. Tino starts to ruffle more feathers as he continues to pursue his investigation into the identity of Laqhasha, not least of all Abigail's. Thato decides that if the Zwane's won't back down on taking Busi away from her, she'll do whatever it takes not to lose her daughter.

Thato's opinions clash with the Zwane's traditional beliefs. Samantha is determined to recover from her attack. Shakira is worried that Abigial and Tino is drifting apart and suggests Abigail tell him the truth about her illegal dealings when Abigail reveals something to Shakira that she didn't know about her and Tino's father. When the goat disappears before Busi's ceremony, Thato believes it's a sign from Vusi. Andrew wants to help Samantha find the criminal but she refuses.
