Starting on SABC3 in December, 2011:

The Middle
Premiere date: Monday, 5 December 2011 at 21h00

The Middle Poster

A sitcom starring Patricia Heaton (of Everybody Loves Raymond) as Frankie Heck, a middle aged, middle class harried wife and working mother of three who uses her wry wit and sense of humour to try to get her family through each day intact.

Frankie has a job (not a career) selling cars at the town's only surviving car dealer; her husband, Mike, is a manager at the local quarry. In between juggling shifts and picking up fast food dinners eaten in front of the TV, Frankie and Mike raise their kids with love and solid Midwestern practicality.

Axl is the oldest, a teenage jock who is eating the family out of house and home and walks around in his underwear. Then there's Sue, their extraordinarily ordinary pre-teen daughter who fails at everything with great gusto.

Brick, the youngest son, is an odd kid whose best friend is his backpack. Together, they're putting The Middle on the map.

Zero Tolerance
Premiere date: Wednesday, 7 December 2011 at 21h00

Zero Tolerance Large

A rebroadcast of Zero Tolerance from Season 1.  The series centres round an elite crime-fighting unit similar to the Scorpions and is based on over four years of research and development into crime and crime fighting in South Africa.

The cast includes Moshidi Motshegwa, Meshack Mavuso and Terence Bridgett.

Around Iceland on Inspiration
Premiere date: Sunday, 11 December 2011 at 18h00

Around Iceland
Dan Skinstad (left) and extreme adventurer Riaan Manser.

Iceland_large_2

A 13-part reality TV documentary series produced as a parnership between Cooked in Africa Films and extreme adventurer Riaan Manser.

The series captures Riaan’s daring kayak around the 5000km circumference of Iceland earlier this year. The trip - which represents Riaan’s third expedition -  saw him mentoring and supporting an unlikely partner: 30-year-old University of Cape Town law student and Cerebral Palsy sufferer, Daniel Skinstad.

Youngest brother of South African rugby player, Bob Skinstad, Dan was searching for ways in which to challenge himself physically and mentally when he met Manser a few years ago.

Riaan and Dan completed their excursion on 4 September 2011, becoming the first African’s to circumnavigate Iceland in a kayak.

Their journey, which included a production crew of five, started around the north-east point of Iceland - the edge of the Arctic Circle - in March this year.

Southern Rhythms: Sacred Music of South Africa
Premiere date: Sunday, 11 December 2011 at 22h00
Please note: the series originally aired on SABC2.

Southern Ryhthms

A series that explores South African unity through the diversity of music, religion and culture. The show celebrates our rich and diverse spiritual and religious communities through performances by leading indigenous and sacred musicians and interviews with artists, scholars and other experts.

It is presented as a first person narrative journey by world reknowned jazz muso Pops Mohamed (Pops).

He embarks on a journey of discovery of South Africa’s abundant and varied sacred music, visiting the various provinces and a spectrum of religious and indigenous communities, engaging them in their environment.

What I Like About You 2
Premiere date: Tuesday, 27 December 2011 at 18h30
New episodes air Mondays to Wednesdays at 18h30

In the Season 2 premiere: Holly tries to help Henry overcome his jealousy of Vince, an eccentric older guy who works as a bike messenger for Harper and Diggs, but ends up making matters worse.

For more about the series, see: TVSA's What I Like About You 2 Show Page.

Friday schedule update:

A headsup that The Real Housewives of Orange County 3 premieres on Monday, 28 November at 20h00 and will be on twice a week - on Fridays too - from 23 December, at 22h10.

It'll be on twice a week until January so that the season reaches it's end in time for Survivor: Samoa to premiere on Monday, 23 January 2012.
