A headsup that SABC3 will be airing a special documentary titled William & Kate - The Royal Engagement in the build-up to next week's wedding.

It airs this Saturday, 23 April 2011 at 18h00.

Here's more about it:

Prince William, heir to the British throne, is to marry Kate Middleton, the archetypal girl-next-door.

With contributions from close friends, historians, biographers and well known journalists, such as Piers Morgan, this documentary reveals their very different backgrounds and upbringing and traces the moments leading up to their engagement, showing why the pair are so perfect for each other, and so popular with the public.

From the day Prince William was born, he was destined for a life of duty. We see how he grew up in the spotlight learning to deal with the world's press, while remaining a deeply private young man.

In contrast, Kate comes from a normal, middle class family, albeit one wealthy enough to send her to private school. The programme looks deeper into her heritage to reveal her extraordinary rise. She will become the first 'commoner' to marry a British heir so close to the throne since 1660.

Fate brought them together at the University of St Andrews in Scotland. During Prince William's four years there he was protected from the media glare, living life as ordinarily as he could.

His and Kate's paths had almost crossed on their gap years spent in the same area of Chile but it was as fellow students, sharing a house together, that romance eventually blossomed.

Their relationship was finally revealed in April 2004, on the ski slopes of Klosters. By then Prince William, one of the most sought after bachelors in the world, had been firm friends with Kate for more than three years. We learn how their ups and downs only brought them closer together, giving them a solid foundation for the future.

The engagement marks a new chapter for the British royal family.
