Counting The Booty - The Wrong Packaging
On: Tuesday 6 November, 2007 at 21h00

This episode of the Counting The Booty documentary series is about a young white male who has a strong sense that there is something wrong with him. He is 22, still lives at home with his mother and has no real prospects of a good job. One morning, while shaving, he realizes that what is wrong with him is his packaging - the fact that he is white and male and living in the new South Africa. Being a bright kinda guy, he decides he is going to record his life and the lives of his friends.

This documentary is a film that offers insight into the current social malady of a class of white males that have not been born into absolute privilege, trying to find themselves as self sufficient men but who struggle to find good job opportunities. They battle with their feelings of anger and insecurity and sometimes racism. The film is directed by Brent’s relative, a Xhosa man in his 40’s and the interaction between the 2 speaks volumes about the state of the male psyche in current South Africa.

Counting The Booty - The Rebirth of Umkhubane
On: Tuesday 20 November, 2007 at 21h00

This story, directed by patriotic resident of Cato Manor, intends recording history in the making. For in the years to come this place promises to be very different from what it was and what it is today. Back in the early 1900s the place called Umkhumbane was built, inside the city of Durban with people living in shacks. It became a very vibrant community but these people were forcibly removed during the Group Areas Act of 1960. Amazingly, they came back in the late 80s and started to rebuild their communities often against impossible odds. This places promises to be very different from what it was and what it is today.

The story will revolve around a Mrs. TR Mbewana, who was amongst the first to return to Cato Manor in 1989 after being forced to relocate due to political violence that took place in KZN.

Counting The Booty - The Ethos Of Crime
On: Tuesday 27 November, 2007 at 21h00

A father and his son vowed to “serve and protect” our society but now the son is dead and the father is left with a grieving family and a society that does not respect its police force – was the suffering and pain all worth it?

We look at a family where the father is a retired policeman and tried to discourage his son from entering the force. His son was adamant he could make a difference but while out on patrol was ambushed with 2 colleagues. He was killed and his colleagues critically injured.

We look at the dynamics of the grieving family and their close relationships and how the immediate neighbourhood has responded to this killing. We also look at how the colleagues are coping and what keeps them in the police force. We try to get into the mind of the police killers and find out why they did it and retrospectively if there are any regrets.
