SABC1 MZANSI FO SHO LIFTS OFF …

SABC1 September Large

Spring has finally arrived and starting from the month of September 2012 SABC1 will launch a number of new shows and introduce new seasons with exciting new features to stimulate television viewer’s taste buds.

1.) LIVE AMP replaces LIVE

The current season of Live ended on Friday 31 August 2012 and will be replaced by Live Amp - a new format show with exciting fresh elements will start airing on Friday 14 Sept @ 21h00.

Private auditions are currently being held to find a male presenter to join Luthando Shosha.

Bonang will not be lost to Mzansi Fo Sho viewers who have grown to love and admire her - fans will still enjoy her excellent presenting skills in a new role. Watch this space for further exciting announcements.

2.) TURN IT OUT STREET BATTLE replaces JIKA MAJIKA

Season 10 of Jika Majika ends in mid-October 2012 and the second season of Turn It Out; now titled - Turn It Out Street Battle - will take over from Wednesday 24th at 19h00 without Mac Leshomo at the helm.

In Season 2 the Turn It Out studio takes to the streets of Gauteng, Durban & Cape Town as we create a series of 26 urban dance battles featuring some of SA’s top dancers - battling it out for the title of SA’s top street dancer.

Presenters and judges are not yet confirmed as talent screening is continuing.

3.) FAN BASE replaces JAM ALLEY

The current season of Jam Alley (S26) goes off air after the final episode airs on Friday 21 September.

A brand new show called Fan Base will take over from Friday 28th September 2012 @ 18:h30.

Fan Base is a playful, light-hearted and fun-filled music variety show - provides space for interaction between musicians and fans in an intimate and fun way.

The presenter of the show is Zulu Boy.

4.) MZANSI INSIDER Revamped

The variety show has opened a new leaf and has introduced changes and roped in a new co-host, facilitator and anchor - Kedibone Mkhabela (former SABC1 channel Ambassador) - the format has also changed as the show will now reposition itself as a current affairs talk driven offering.

Comedians Sifiso Nene and Skhumbi form part of the studio panel, to share their thoughts on topics under discussion in a light-hearted, funny way.

5.) THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL (Weekdays @ 18h00)

Mzansi’s television viewers and soapie fans are abuzz with excitement at the historic first appearance by our very own award-winning Terry Pheto on the international soapie - the Bold & the Beautiful.

Her character, South African cardiac surgeon - Dr Malaika Maponya - made an impressive entry into the star-studded soapie’s cast list on Tuesday 04 September 2012, @ 18h00.

Terry will feature in several episodes between now and Friday the 5th of October 2012. Viewers should stay tuned for more exciting potential developments regarding the soapie!

6.) KIDNAPPED - moved to a new timeslot

The popular international drama series will now air on Wednesdays starting on 12 September 2012 @ 22h00. The original Sunday 20h00 timeslot is now reserved for movies.

The thrilling drama series, staring Timothy Hutton and Dana Delaney, is about a wealthy and powerful New York couple whose teenage son has been kidnapped.

With local law enforcement, the FBI, and a private negotiating team all working on the case, one might think the boy would be rescued in no time...but as the series unfolds, it becomes clear that this "perfect" family may be hiding a few dark secrets of their own.

Also starring: Jeremy Sisto, Delroy Lindo, Mykelti Williamson, Linus Roache, Carmen Ejogo, Will Denton. Created by Jason Smilovic.

MORE TITLES TO LOOK FORWARD TO ON SABC1 ...

1.) SHAKESPEARE IN MZANSI: FORCED LOVE (initial title - Goba Msenge) - now starts on Thursday 13 September @ 20h30.

An adaptation of the Taming of the Shrew, set in Cape Town, transposed into a modern-day setting giving the old-age battle of sexes a modern African makeover.

William Shakespeare’s Padua has been replaced with a varied world of Cape Town, from the plush suburbs, to the townships and the far off rural areas. The mini drama series injects a new and fresh representation of the universe and the epicenter of the Noveau Riche in South Africa.

This world is about wearing your wealth on your sleeve. The right clothes… driving the right car and being seen in the right places- even if you spend your last penny doing it.

2.) FARMER TO PHARMACY: Tuesday 18 September @ 21h00

Farmer to Pharmacy tells the story of Zanele, who is a young traditional healer, on a quest to validate the safety, efficacy and quality of traditional African medicine through scientific means.

We also meet Miranda, who is a traditional healer employed by a scientific institution, and Gilbert who is a scientist by profession. The relationship between the traditional healer and the scientist is further explored in the conflict and/ or harmony that arise from this collaboration.

The traditional health practitioner’s pursuit for the recognition and acceptance of traditional African medicine becomes the underlying theme to this film. Farmer to Pharma engages the viewer on their belief systems and gives them a sense of pride in forming their identity.

The film honours the ways of our ancestors when it comes to medicine and healing. It celebrates the validity of traditional African medicine in modern times.

3.) YIZO YIZO SERIES 2 (repeat show) starts airing on Thursday 20 September @ 22h00.

Yizo Yizo is the story of an ordinary school overcoming extraordinary obstacles. It is about the struggle of ordinary people to learn, play, teach, read, dream, love and find their place in the world.

It’s the start of a New Year and the violence that engulfed the school the previous year has been contained. Basic security has been established. The new principal has achieved a level of order and stability. But she is also determined to nurture learning and develop standards. But she can’t do it alone.

Will criminal elements in the community threaten the school’s survival? Will the matric students resist the temptations of drugs and dropping out? Can the teachers find courage in the face of job insecurity, corruption and apathy, and make a difference to their student’s lives?

Supatsela struggles to find its right path and learns along the way that education is not only about passing exams. It’s also about nurturing young lives and grappling with the many problems that learners face - hunger, fear, drugs, indifference, cruelty and violence. It’s about working together to make a difference.

4.) HERITAGE: ENKUNDLENI: on Tuesday 25 September @ 21h00.

Enkundleni is a respected place in the Xhosa culture where meetings are held, people’s cries are heard and where personal conflicts and public matters are resolved.

Hailing from the Abathembu tribe, situated in Emqhekezweni near Umtata in the Eastern Cape, Chief Zanomthetho Mthikrakra resides. He has the royal blood of the Chief Zonwabele Mthikrakra, and as the eldest son, the task of chieftaincy fell to him rendering him the sovereignty of Mqhekezweni and its neighboring villages.

His wife is not of royal blood, a fact which has been a source of great difficulty in their family life. What this translates to is that his son cannot succeed him.

The documentary follows the story of Chief Zanomthetho by portraying his daily life as the chief; the challenges he faces as a young married chief. How he manage his private life at home, how he solves village issues.
