The first season of hit medical drama
Grey's Anatomy comes to an end on M-Net tonight (19h30), but fans of the show needn't feel too gloomy - the second season starts next week in the exact same timeslot, making for a seamless transition.
Viewers have come to know and love the often quirky interns and their relationships with the doctors of Seattle Grace Hospital, each other and their slave-driving boss, Dr Miranda Bailey (
Chandra Wilson), a.k.a. The Nazi.
There's Meredith Grey (
Ellen Pompeo), trying to juggle her passion for medicine with her underplayed passion for resident surgeon Dr Derek Shepherd (
Patrick Dempsey) with her ailing, once-great mother, whose Alzheimer's Meredith tries to keep a secret.
There's acidic Christina Yang (
Sandra Oh), who in the first series became involved with Dr Preston Burke (
Isaiah Washington); Izzy Stevens (
Katherine Heigl), the underwear model-turned-doctor; George O'Malley (
T.R. Knight), whose natural awkwardness and bashfulness when confronted with his secret love for Meredith endears him to one and all; and of course Dr Alex Karev (
Justin Chambers), the boorish former wrestler from Iowa who seems intent on making the other interns dislike him.
The series will pick up with season two next week, which will follow directly after the events that happen in tonight's finale.
The first season was originally scheduled to have 13 episodes, but it was cut to nine after producers felt that the 9th episode - tonight's - made a perfect dramatic ending to the first season...
Those extra four episodes are the first four of the second season.
The Season 1 finale is on M-Net tonight at 19h30. The Season 2 premiere is in the same timeslot next week.
