When isiBaya debuted in March this year it doubled the viewership of it's predecessor iNkaba and now it's outperforming itself by an average of over 200, 000 viewers.

The telenovela reaches it's 100th episode on Mzansi Magic tonight (Thursday, 5 September) and does so with a bang in the ratings. In it's first month on air it attracted an average of 345,250 viewers and in August it averaged almost 600, 000 viewers.

As you'll see from the ratings overview below, when you compare the ratings for some of the early days in March with the days in August, a number of recent episodes have attracted over double the audience from when the series started.

Tonight's 100th episode is titled "What the eye sees, the mind must believe." Here's the teaser for it, followed by a close-up look at the ratings:

Detective Mimi (played by Matshepo Maleme) attempts to unravel the truth about what happened to Mpiyakhe Zungu (Siyabonga Twala) as Thandeka Zungu (Nomzamo Mbatha) struggles to deal with what happened in the valley. Mimi follows Sunday to his hut where she sees something unspeakable.

Important to note as you browse the ratings ...
  • The figures reflect South African audiences i.e. they don't include DStv viewers from other countries.
  • They reflect the National Universe and are calculated in the same way as the weekly Primetime TV Viewing Figures.
  • They represent the standard currency of adults (15+).
  • They don't include repeats of the shows. They reflect the average number of viewers who watched the 20h30 Primetime broadcast each evening.
  • The figures reflect the first month of isiBaya and the latest month of figures available for it i.e the figures for August:

The show's doing very well. Not my cuppa tea though. I wonder if they're not contemplating scrapping the telenovela title letting it run for longer.

They should make it longer that 208 episodes, I love this soapie. Well done to the writers except the Jabu and Iris storyline of course,I hope after having sex with her stepmother he will discover that Iris has no cent inher name from the amended will and Iris will blackmail him out of his inheritance. Can't wait for episode 100.

I am sure if they were playing Isibaya in one of the SABC Channels (most people have access to) it would be rating at Millions of viewers!! I am not complaining though because even though it is playing on DSTV it is still doing exceptionally well!!! Big ups to the whole crew... from actors/actresses to the guys behind the scenes all the way to the tea ladies if they have!!!
