So You Think You Can Dance, the successful American dance reality competition, is coming to South Africa in a big way when the local version airs on SABC1 later this year.

One booty-shakin' youngster has a shot at being South Africa's next big dance star - they just don't know it yet.

So You Think You Can Dance South Africa makes its debut on SABC1 on Saturday, 9 August 2008 at 18h30, the channel have confirmed. It will replace The Amazing Date, which ends its 13-episode run on 2 August.

A gruelling round of auditions will be held around the country prior to broadcast, to sort out who's hot and who's not on the dance floor.

The Ultimate Winner will walk away with prizes to the value of R250,000.

If you're interested in entering, check out our Casting Call

A panel of judges will be travelling to the major metropolitan centres to find dancers who are dynamic, talented and who possess the ever-elusive "X-factor".

These judges, who have been drawn from South African dance and choreography circles, are Adele Blank, Harold van Buuren, Didi Moses, Debbie Rakusin and David Matamela.

Libra Anne was not ugly but masculine. This adele woman is on the same league as Janice Dickson from ANTM for the plastic surgerised looking skin. She smells botox all over. Look at her neck .

Urgh - can't believe they're using Harold !- remember what a punch he needed when he was when he danced with Grethe Fox in SCD - bossing her around and generally making her feel her dancing wasn't showing him up well enough.

Shirmell
23 Jun 2008 10:17

Oh yeah Tash, I know what you mean about Harold, he was such a pig towards Grethe and the poor woman was so glad she danced her last dance, just relieved to be out of his clutches.I wonder if he'll be the villain on this show.

I've already seen the promos and it looks exciting, still can't believe its gonna be on SABC 1 of all the channels.......

I have faith in this programme, the only thing im concerned about is that there are no judges for i-township dance. Yes we didnt need the normal faces ezifana noSomizi or uThembi but we needed someone to represent US ama-lokshin figures. The next thing you know we wont watch the programme because we will think that its too white and not for us and then what happen, phela truth be told if a programme cannot attract o"YOUNKIE" abango-darky than that programme is f*cked!!! Uthi soyibona nje imidanso yethu laphaya, i mean isitabane, izinyoka ect?

LMBAO at Msoe! This no ground for phul'iqolo ok.
LOL...It seems the likes of Phul'iqolo remains strictly at Jika Majika

What kind of dance is SYTYCD catering for? Pop/classical/modern/european dances???? I'm kinda confused with what the difference is between all these dance shows (I love dance to bits). There's also that other dance show (Can't recall the name), where Lorcia Cooper is a judge.

But where are the black people??
Isn't David Matamela black?

Msoe
24 Jun 2008 06:58

CNGLEMOTHER: eyi, i am confused than kanti what will we be watching here? ballroom, hip hop dance or what?

Feza Good Luck & shake that booty girl like there is no 2morow wankutlwa!!!!!!

Houken
24 Jun 2008 08:18

The judges are old white people.whats sabc 1 thinking? No offence but there are amazing young accomplished classically trained black dancers and choreograpers like Kitty Phetla or Thoriso Magongwa or Lorna Maseko . That i feel would be better suited for the channel and for the show itself.

carino
24 Jun 2008 08:25

Thank you, Houken.... My point exactly....

Renegade

I think they did this 'white judges' thing on purpose, they are avoiding phuli qolo and ngwaza to differentiate the show from Jika Majika! LOL

Cnglemother
24 Jun 2008 09:10

LOL @ Houken! . Mutodi Neshembe(David Matamela) is not white mos hi-hi-hi! Can y'all stop being black & just enjoy the soccerroom/ballroom whatever they call it, forget about ingwazi this aint no jika-majika and somizi is too dramatic for the show.

carino
24 Jun 2008 09:25

I still think the show belongs on SABC 2. Or Cape Town TV, coz with these kinda judges, im looking forward to a lot of break-dancing.

Shirmell
24 Jun 2008 10:50

The judges seem right for this type of show (its an extremely high standard type of dancing and choreography) but I will have to agree that its not suited for SABC 1, not at all.

Engen
25 Jun 2008 08:39

For your info Houken, Shadow and Cnglemother- Kitty Phetla, Thoriso Magongwa and Lorna Maseko were trained in contemporary dance by Adele from when they were young teenagers dancing with Ballet Theatre Afrikan. They are all still in their early twenties, so give them time and in a few years they would've gained enough experience to judge a competition like this, cos hell knows they have the talent! Likewise Lorcia Cooper and Somizi were trained by Adele before they made it as a celebrities. These two have loads of talent but just because they are already celebrities doesnt mean they can judge a show like this. These judges have been around, and know what they are doing, they also have travelled the world and seen the best of the best choreography and dance.

carino
25 Jun 2008 08:45

Okay, Engen.....

I think it is going to be a great show. We need rolemodels in our communities. I like the idea  that the show is on SABC1, now everybody with a teleision set can watch it.

Bug
01 Aug 2008 18:28

Hey all. Im out of da loop.Wen is da first show on tv? I want to watch it.Anybody know?

Nanouk
18 Sep 2008 21:21

I think this show ROCKS!And my favourite judge so far, is definitely Didi! She is the only one on the panel who seems sincere and passionate about the dancers and their progress AND I love the fact that she is a tough cookie and doesn't take *bleep!* from the other judges who keep interrupting her.
She is so sassy. I like her spunk! Where did she go??? Wil she be back on the pael?
