No fix for The Fixer/Scandal name problem

If you tuned into Kerry Washington on The Fixer on SABC3 on Monday night (1 April) you'll have noticed that the show wasn't called The Fixer.

It premiered on the channel at 21h30 and was supposed to be called The Fixer but when the credits came up it was called its original name instead: Scandal.

The series changed name to The Fixer for South African and African audiences because of the name clash with e.tv soapie Scandal! The idea was to create a clear distinction between the two shows. It airs on M-Net and on M-Net Series Zone as The Fixer.

But the distinction won't exist on SABC3. Word from the channel is that the series is now going to be broadcast as Scandal because this is how the show was distributed to the SABC.

In addition to this mess, the name The Fixer is a problem too because another show already exists with the same name.

If you've managed to keep the thread so far ... the show is now in a situation where it's called two different things in one country plus both its names are the same as other shows.

Very poor planning on behalf of the series creators and distributors.

Oh I love Scandal. I am not a patient person so I downloaded the whole thing. I I finish Season 1 and 2 in 3 days. I am now on Season 3 Ep 15, waiting for tonight's episode 16 in the US then will download tomorrow.

I never understood why the need to change the original name in the first place. The SA version of Scandal! has an exclamation mark!!! I was so glad to see that the SABC went with the original name.

Tjo! What a mess... But no worries. Knowing how the SABC functions, they will only air the first season. Season 2 will be a no show and they will come up with stories about tapes being delayed and so on and so forth. Public broadcaster viewers should no get attached to the show because I doubt it will return after the 1st season's seventh episode. Case in point; Desperate Housewives...One year its on, next two years its off air, returns couple years later as if nothing happened and they expect people to watch anyway. I don't know, maybe SABC viewers don't mind this nonsense but I could never.
