The annual Cape Town International Jazz Festival's coming up this weekend (28 and 29 March) and the Mudda City's razzing it up for the occasion.
It's a benchmark event this year because the festival celebrates its 15th year of jazzing. Notable developments introduced this year include a focus on South African fashion. The festival's teamed up with the Cape Town Fashion Festival and will be running a Fashion Master Class as part of the Jazz festival workshop experiences.
On Thursday evening (27 March) the festival and the SABC will be hosting a 15th anniversary gala dinner which will feature fashion from the Wear South Africa campaign as well as performances by some of the festival performers, including Shakatak and Jimmy Nevis. TVSA will be in the action to get the lowdown on the vibe and Who's Wearing Who.
This year's Friday night line-up of performers includes Mi Casa, The Soil, Mathew Gold, Jonas Gwangwa, Black Coffee and international act Level 42. Those performing on Saturday include The Muffinz, Abdullah Ibrahim and Ekaya, Lalla Hathaway, AKA and Da L.E.S.
Events will be featured on various TV shows on SABC1, 2 and 3.
SABC3Expresso will be covering the build-up this week between 06h00 and 07h00 each morning and will also be filming at the weekend. Top Billing will be doing interviews with musicians which will be featured on the show during April.
