28-year-old Ghanaian actress Lydia Forson makes her debut on the e.tv soapie
Scandal! on Thursday night (4 April) in the role of online maneater Aku.
Aku goes on an online dating mission and wants to get her claws into Kila (Siyabonga Shibe). She makes her way to South Africa to pursue him and finds herself competing with Gloria (Marjorie Langa) for his attention. Apparently she'll do
anything to ensure she snags him.
Lydia started her acting career in 2005 with cameo roles in various Ghanaian movies including Hotel St. James and Run Baby Run. In 2006 she appeared in the Ghanaian TV series Different Shades of Blue and in 2007 she was a finalist on the Nigerian reality show The Next Movie Star.
She made the top six on the show and was joined by reality sletty and Big Brother All Stars winner
Uti Nwachukwu who happened to be the first runner-up.
In 2010 Lydia won an African Movie Academy Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Lead Role for the movie The Picture Perfect. Most recently she's had roles in the films A Sting in a Tale, Masquerades and the Nollywood flik Phone Swap.
Word from e.tv is that channel wants to acknowledge the support Scandal! receives from across Africa. Apparently the show has a particularly strong fan base in Ghana so Lydia's storyline and casting is a way to acknowledge viewers outside of South Africa.
