Nominees for the 7th annual South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTA) were revealed at an official announcement event at Melrose Arch in Johannesburg on Wednesday night (13 February).
The evening was attended by industry professionals, members of the media and representatives from the National Film and Video Foundation, who organise the awards.
Despite the number of controversies and fiascos that have surrounded the awards over the years, they continue to grow. There were 354 entries this year, 120 more than last year.
Of course every year the awards include twilight zone phenomena that make no sense. One of the humdingers this year: the second most prestigious category doesn't exist! The Best Comedy category has been ditched for the year.
The Best Comedy category is always right up there with the Best Drama category as an essential and prestigious category and yet there are no nominees. Decided by the judges. Which suggests that they don't believe any comedies deserve the award. Do you believe so too? What do you think?
While you ponder the problem, here's a look at the nominees for both television and film:

How in the hell does 7DeLaan get nominated for "Best Writing Team" are you frikken kidding me? Are you? That's a bunch of SHIT! Kim Engelbrecht also gets nominated but she left Isidingo early last year? How does that make sense? Dawn Matthews deserved a nomination too. And best ensemble : Isidingo and Rhythm city deserve it but Generations? Oh HELL bloody NO! Mxm. I'm just pissed off! I'm not watching the SAFTAS again this year! And I want "The Wild" to win best soapy not because they deserve it or because they are "the best" but because it's their last time on tv and they should go out with a bang! Other than that I'm disappointed with the whole Soapy nominees! And taking out "Best Comedy"? No that's wrong!

I seriously don't get the SAftas. So the entries are from 2 yrs ago as in the award will always be lagging by 2 years? It is not fair for shows/acts from 2012 to compete with shows/acts from 2011.

Lesego, muvhango brings out the worst in even the best actors. Meme is just as 'out of sync', even Raps' acting ability doesn't shine on muvhango. A category I think muvhango deserves is 'best styling and make up' in a soapie...if it exists.

I think Generation's writing team should have been nominated. They have improved a lot. I mean who writes Menzi and Nambitha's scripts. It makes no sense you nominate them like they say dialogue from other writers, for the fact that they are nominated it means they are good, and that good acting is supplied by the writers writing good stories for them. SAFTAS are just a BIG 'yawn'

Ai SAFTAs are so boring. These awards must be scrapped out and Duku Duku Awards must be reinstated. I doubt even the people behind all these show care much about these SAFTAs. MXM

It wouldnt be SAFTA's without DRAMA! Each year there's always scandals...This one with Muvhango getting only one nomination is just a tip of the iceberg. Wait til 7de Laan pulls out the plug on them!

I was hoping to see 'Forced Love' on the short film category. I'm just NOT impressed with the list of nominees but who am I? Nambitha is going to win!! Masasa Mapasa (Thembeka on Scandal) is a brilliant actress though, just saying!!

Nambitha and Menzi must win. I am a Generations fan, but i wish Scandal/Muvhango can take the Best Soapy category award. Eh i don't have any problem with the nomenees i think they are just fine and reasonable engough. And the list i batter in longitude than that of Oscar's n Grammy's. Anyway am voting Generations X 20, boring or not its the best ke qha! And if isidingo wins again kodwa sibukelwa ngabantu aba less than 2m ndobe ndiyancama nge SAFTAs

South African Awards whether SAMAS or SAFTA even Metro FM awards just suck nje biiiig time they lack creativity, like really look at the BET awards, Oscars and MTV awards why can't we strive for that creativity why can't we put more effort this is disappointing really, no ways please you can do so much better than this
