Katie Holmes 1
Scientology alert! Katie Holmes presenting the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series award. Is that her handler with her?? No no - it's Breaking Bad's Bryan Cranston with hair.

Nigel Lythgoe and Paula Abdul on the red carpet talking about The X Factor US which premieres in the US this week. It starts on M-Net when Idols 7 ends.

The 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards went down in Los Angeles on Sunday night (18th) and TV stars were clearly thrilled to have the event all to themselves.

As they strutted the red carpet on E! you could feel their relief that there were very few over paid movie actors on the scene.

The only movie types who got noticed were those who've embraced TV too i.e. those who've seen the light and know that TV shows are much better quality than current movies.

Although you wouldn't say so from the ceremony. Glee's Jane Lynch was good enough as the host but the ceremony was dripping with slapstick. Perhaps we don't "get it" being South African but we were struck by hardcore heartburn it was so cheesy.

Still, there were some interesting moments like Charlie Sheen's cringeworthy appearance - that almost didn't happen. Two and Half Men execs petitioned for him not to be featured in the ceremony - they asked for his appearance to be cut completely. It didn't happen though and he made his appearance wearing a contrite expression.

Charlie Sheen emmy 1

He introduced the award by speaking to the Two and a Half Men cast, saying: "I wish you nothing but the best for this upcoming season." He then did a dramatic pause expecting people to whoop their appreciation and was met by a half-hearted audience thwack instead.

With him out of the way the ceremony eased up on the awkwardness somewhat as the reality and drama categories followed.

Here's a look at who grabbed the statues in all of the categories ... as you'll see Mad Men undeservedly stole Outstanding Drama Series for a fourth year in a row (#EpicYawn):
