Football fever is here and there's no escaping it - if you're a badminton fan you're in for a pretty crappy June. You read it here first.
Every television channel and their dog is going big with the 2010 World Cup and SABC1 is no different. Being the official broadcaster of the World Cup means they have to deliver plenty of soccer content, and that's exactly what they're doing.
Aside from all the games, SABC1 also has a number of World Cup companion shows, including two that will air daily: Good Morning Mzansi and Good Evening Mzansi. One is in the morning and one is in the evening, in case you were struggling with that.
Both will be broadcast from SABC's fancy, shiny new broadcast studio - see the pics below. Carol Manana has been confirmed as the host of both shows - the other presenters are yet to be announced.
Here's a brief description of each:
Good Morning Mzansi
Good Morning Mzansi starts on Monday, 7 June at 06h00 and runs from 06h00 to 07h00 from Mondays to Sundays.
It's described as a dynamic, live studio interactive World Cup lifestyle and current affairs magazine show that will deliver everything World Cup, including a traffic report and directing early bird World Cup viewers on how best to navigate their course to the venue, an exclusive peak inside the "holiday home" of a travelling World Cup family; and musical performances from Mzansi talent.
Good Evening Mzansi
On Friday, 11 June the broadcast of the games begins with Good Evening Mzansi, which airs nightly from 22h30 to 23h00, Mondays to Fridays.
It's pacey, with entertaining commentary highlights summarizing the games played for that day, celebrating the goals and having a second look at lost scoring opportunities
But that's not all, folks - we're just getting warmed up. You didn't seriously believe two daily shows was it, did you?
Also starting on Monday, 7 June at 19h00 is a show called Road To The World Cup, which features the build-up to the action. It airs from 19h00 to 19h30 and runs from Monday to Wednesday, 9 June.
On Thursday, 10 June the games begin with the FIFA 2010 World Cup Opening Ceremony, from 20h00 to 22h15. On Friday, 11 June life - as you know it - ends.
There are two other dedicated World Cup shows on SABC1:
Soccer 411 (World Cup)
This show is already on but will take on a World Cup slant. The show will air from 12 June, before the first match of the day of the World Cup (varying times, but generally at 12h30).
Broadcast just before each World Cup match, Soccer 411 offers an exclusive forum for debate, commentary and opinion into the upcoming match. The analysts will also include other soccer related content such as impact players, coaches' strategies and tactical previews.
This 24-minute live-studio show is hosted by Kwena Moabelo. He is assisted by a team of experts and analysts including Mike Mangena, Shakes Kungoane and Jeffrey Zikhali.
Tjovitjo 2010
This show will air from 11 June, before Soccer 411 (varying times, but generally at 12h00).
Tjovitjo 2010 is a sportainment pre-packaged magazine-styled show that showcases the distinctly African football experience, celebrations, excitement and mood of ordinary citizens during the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
Finally, in case you are wondering what's going to happen to Generations and Bold and the Beautiful - both will definitely be on daily during the Cup - no matter what.
Their times, however, will vary according to when the games are on. See local guides for details. Batteries not included.

| Oh please, this is too much. Currently there are so many World Cup shows and I don't even want to watch any of them because they speak of one thing. Talk about over doing things! We know the SABC is the offiial broadcater of the 2010 games but this is very silly and taking it too far. I will navigate my way to Muvhango and etv. Bye bye SABC 1 during the WC period. I will see you when you are done with wasting tax payer's money. You will only see me during the matches, other than that, in Sepedi we say go ya ka mogoro a se go tjwana = parting ways doesn't mean we will never see each other again. |
