Muvhango Plays Bad Joke On Viewers

I love Muvhango and I somewhat believe it's way better than Generations and other soapies for that matter... (Just to set the record straight) BUT when they pull a "kinda" Thamsanqa Jantjie on us, one can't help but jump up with shock... and laughter - all in the same breath.

Okay... this all happened during last night's episode, where Khomotjo comes clean to her cousin about murdering her hubby, Phathudi. Little do they know that Tryphina, is behind the staircase, recording the conversation, whilst pretending to be cleaning.

We are shown the moment Tryphina clicks on the record button on her phone. Khomotjo talks away with her jaw-dropping confession oblivious to the fact that her sins are being recorded. Once Tryphina gets the confession on the phone, she sends it to Nandi, who hired her to be the "ultimate spy."

All was good until later on in the same episode, when Nandi plays back the recorded conversation...

Eeeeh...

Something was wrong. Very wrong.

So wrong that I stopped the show and had to go back again and again, until I figured out what was really wrong with this recording Nandi was playing.

To make a long story short, the recording sounded "similar" to the original convo... but was not quite the actual conversation.

I'm not sure how this blunder occured because last I checked, whatever you record must sound identical to the original material. Or maybe Tryphina's phone is a fong kong of some sort, that has gremlins that alter original recordings.

Are you as confused as I was?

Well... Check out how the original conversation goes and see how those gremlins in the phone distort the recording Nandi is playing:

(IN THE ORIGINAL CONVERSATION "THEY" HAD NAMES... I GUESS THESE BUNCH OF GREMLINS SWALLOWED THEIR NAMES)

(I GUESS SHE DOESN'T REMEMBER ANYMORE)

(WHO DOESN'T TRUST YOU?)

(HIS MOTHER IS NANDI... WE DON'T BLAME ANYTHING ABOUT THIS)

(I GUESS THIS WAS NOT IMPORTANT ENOUGH TO INCLUDE IN THE RECORDING NANDI PLAYED...)

(Sigh...)

(FINALLY, THE SCRIPT IS IDENTICAL!!!)

(OMITTED FROM THE RECORDING NANDI PLAYED...)

(YET ANOTHER OMISSION FROM THE RECORDING... #TripleSigh)

(TJO! I'M ALSO SHOCKED THAT HE WAS SHOCKED TO DEATH)

(SHE PROBABLY STOPS THE RECORDING RIGHT HERE...)

(TRYPHINA'S MOVING AWAY... BUT THEY ARE STILL TALKING)

(TRYPHINA'S CONTINUES TO WALK AWAY FROM THE CONVO... KHOMOTJO REAFFIRMS THEY KILLED HIM... BTW, THIS IS NOT IN THE RECORDING EITHER)

(Eeeeeh... Maybe Tryphina didn't stop the recording afterall. But... how did she record when she's almost left the room?)

(OKAY... WHERE DOES THIS COME FROM? KHOMOTJO NEVER SAID THIS IN HER CONVO?)

***Throws in the towel... and walks away***

I re-affirm. We love Muvhango... but damn they got us on this one. Almost one month before April Fools Day. Wow!

Did any of you notice this blunder?
What are your thoughts on this "Not so April F00ls"
Joke"?

Lol I noticed the conversation was different and didn't hear the we killed him part, was disappointed as well but didn't put much thought into it. These writers when they see viewership increasing they start paying less particular attention to their scripts.

"I somewhat believe it's way better than Generations and other soapies for that matter."

I agree, even the ever popular Isibaya doesn't give me what I get from Muvhango.

mara you are way to observant, I didn't notice a thing and I watched the episode, I guess I am not as detailed as I have always thought. Now I hope they read this and never make such a blunder again.............

I disagree with you Pru only on the part that Muvhango is better than other soaps. Lovey, please watch isiBaya and you will sing a different tune. I wish that they can move isiBaya to the 8 oclock spot and knock that stupid generations off their pedestal.

Moer Pru, your observation girl... hahahah i didnt notice yaz. Magical Baby i disagree about Isibaya being better than Muvhango. Their season 1 dragged around the same story line i am not sure if they will be able to write enough story lines for a soapie. Muvhango doesn't drag stories for long that's what i like about it, and its unpredictable too.

Yho... Pru, I thought something was wrong with my understanding since I don't normally watch Muvhango! I noticed it too... my mom even said commented "uyabona ukusebenzisa into zamaChina... kutheni iphone ka Tryphina ithumela umyalezo ongenguwo nje"? I couldn't blv it myself...

i also noticed tht part n ne ke nagana my tv is playing tricks on me, gape wht i dnt get ke gore hw come khomotjo le lerumo ba nyalane ka civil law while hes married to moriti ka civil law, is tht not bigamy? or unless myb moriti le lerumo are married in terms of customary law, dd the writers overlook ths or maybe it's all part of the future storyline

They shouldnt move Isibaya to the 8 o'clock slot cos i'd hate to see black people miss out on good television. Let's admit it Generations is like ANC, people would tune in even if there was loss in transmission and there was just snow on people screens from 8 to 8:30.. they would still tune in.

I noticed that too. One moment Tryphina's phone was just those small phones that cannot record, boom she has a phone that can record! Anywhere it is just a soapie

OMG, Muvhango has no shame fooling viewers like this. Eish mina I missed that episode yazi. I just fell asleep watching TV. Tjo, kodwa Muvhango must be ashamed of itself for doing this. Sometimes I've also realised that in soapie's, Muvhango especially, their script translators get lost in translation. One does know of translation pitfalls such as semantic challenges faced by translators, i.e, translation of idioms and other sayings, but in such cases, a near equivalent must be used. In doing so, the translated English text must have the same meaning or meaning that is almost similar to the original text. But this Muvhango blunder was no semantic error. It is just simply taking your viewers for fools and that is unacceptable hey
