Live together, Die alone Part 1

Noooooooo!!! Dammit! Just when it was really getting interesting! I really hate these two parters! Now I’ve got to wait a whole 7 days for part 2.

I am so glad that Michael’s been found out. I think he’s been lucky with the way they’ve reacted to the news. Ok, I guess they can’t all beat him up yet, since they need him to “fool” the Others. I’m really not sure if this plan to surprise the Others is going to work. Wouldn’t they be able to see a boat floating about their supposed camp??

So, this week sees Desmond (he of the sexy Scottish accent) trying to sail away from the island, only to find himself back where he began. And we see a Des flashback too!

So, it appears that Desmond served time in what seems to be a UK military jail, and when his sentence is up, he is “dishonorably discharged” Outside the prison gates, he’s intercepted by a rich guy in a limo, who offers him lots of pounds to leave his daughter alone.

Apparently, Desmond declined the cash but sets off for the US instead….where he meets up with….Libby! He gives her a sad sob story about winning a race –it’s not about the money, it’s about whose money he would be winning (rich girl’s Daddy’s money).

He needs $42000 to buy a boat, but wait…guess who has a boat and is willing to give it to Des. Yes, how convenient.  So Libby gives Des the boat and Des accepts. Not that I blame him… free boat, right. So he’s goes jogging at a stadium (where he later meets Jack) but not before his lady love finds him and questions him. “I need to get back my honour” he tells he before he runs off to train.

Finally, Des sails away, crashes on the island, and the rest is history. Oh, but the interesting thing is that the guy who pulls him out of the water and introduces him to “pushing the button” is the same guy who “used” a captured Sayid in Iraq to torture prisioners.

Back in present time, Jack interrogates Des, asking him why he didn’t tell him about the boat, and why he came back. This isn’t intentional, this is supposed to be Fiji, explains Desmond. But it was just this island again. "And you know why? Because this is it. This is all there is left. This ocean and this place here. We are stuck in a bloody snow globe!" he yells.

So, while Des is feeling sorry for himself and tries to get alcohol poisoning; Jack and Sayid hatch a plan. Sayid proposes sailing around the island and scout out the camp, and light up a signal fire. Ermmm Question. Wouldn’t the Others see the fire??

Jack doesn’t seem too keen, but Sayid talks him into it. The next morning Michael and his fabulous four are preparing to leave. Jack hands out the guns and Kate reminds him of the fake beard and clothes she found… what if the Others just want the Losties to think they're hillbillies? Michael butts in to yell that the Others are indeed hillbillies!! Blah blah blah. His outburst clears the fog that’s been surrounding Jack’s mind for a while. He’s convinced – Michael’s lying!

In their trek into the jungle they are interrupted by a giant bird. Hurley thinks that the bird said his name. Huh? Michael was spooked by the bird (jumpy, isn’t he?) and tried shooting it (trigger happy too) but his gun wasn’t loaded. Jack pretends like it was a mistake.

So, the next day, Michael and the fab four are hiking through the jungle when Kate informs Sawyer that they are being followed. "You in?" she says, and doesn't even wait for an answer before she starts shooting. Sawyer kills one, but the other Other gets away.

They all want to go after the escapee but Jack yells no, and tells them that the Others have been informed already. Hee hee. I love the uncomfortable look on Michael’s face. Fess up Michael!!! Michael fesses up. He tells them about the list, letting Fake Henry go and then even fesses up about shooting Ana-Lucia and Libby.

I don’t think that ether Jack or Sayid actually thought that it was Michael who shot Ana and Libby. And this news seems to hit them all really hard, as expected. He tells them that he didn’t have time to think when he shot Libby, but Hurley wants to know… what if he did have time.

Michael says he didn’t have a choice. He apologizes, over and over again, before finally saying, "My son!" But no one seems overly sympathetic right now. Jack tells them that he wouldn’t have brought them into the jungle if he didn’t have a plan.

This plan of theirs – I really have doubts about it. There’s the fact that the Others are not hillbillies, and I wouldn’t trust one as far as I could throw one. It’s too simple, too many loopholes.

Michael – I must admit, I was feeling sorry for him until he confessed. For some reason, I’m less inclined to sympathize with him anymore. Maybe it’s the way he did it (confessed) – I don’t feel that he fully realizes the impact of his behaviour.

Meanwhile, Sayid enlists the help of Jin, and Sun elects to tag along. I’m thinking that Sun tagging along is not a good idea. We really don’t need the Others finding out that there’s another child they can eventually kidnap. But having said that, Sun is my favourite from amongst the woman (she’s the least annoying) so I am glad she finally gets a chance to go kick some ass. I hope.

So, they sail away around the island. And this bit has me stumped. I’ve been having a bout of insomnia for a few days but this at least kept me company last night – that 4 toed statue! As they sail, they see a massive statue of half a leg, cut off somewhere under the knee. Oh, and there's something else, as Sayid notices, the foot only has four toes. But Sayid's not sure if that's the most disquieting thing, or if it's the fact that the rest of the statue is missing.

4 toed statue? Aliens? Gnomes? Giants? This is exactly what we need. There are clearly not enough mysteries on this island.

So they sail past 4-toes and reach the rock with the big hole in it. How did they know about this rock anyway?

Four toes eh? Orges? Toads? Orcs?

Meanwhile, in yet another story line Locke tries to convince Eko that he should stop pushing the button. He tells Eko that he’s a slave. Oh, so not a wise move. Eko quietly says he's not a slave to anything. Locke insists Eko's a slave to the timer, so Eko gets upset and beats Locke up and locks him out of the hatch. Heh heh.

Oh ok, he didn’t really beat Locke up, but tossed him around pretty good. So now Locke’s topside and crying. Locke’s crying?!?!? And Charlie strolls past at that moment. At first he seems genuinely concerned that Locke is crying (the big baby), but then, decides to smirk. I guess that beating that Locke gave him in still fresh in his mind.

He does a lot of smirking and eventually tells Locke that his buddy Desmond is back. Locke goes off to find Desmond. He tells Des that they are still pushing the button, and tells him about the surveillance station hatch they found.

He talks Des into helping getting Eko out of the hatch, which they do. Des brings down the metal doors and locks Eko out. Eko tries pounding on the door for a bit, but then finally leaves the hatch – through the shaft they blew up. Huh? What happened to the door?

He goes and finds Charlie. He says he needs Charlie's help, but Charlie snidely notes that he now appears to be back in Eko's good graces. Eko's got no time for Charlie's grudge, and just tells him about being locked out of the hatch and how he's absolutely certain that if the timer runs out, everyone will die. "All right, I'm in," says Charlie, after considering it a moment.

So, on one end of the island, we have Michael the Muddled, with the Fab four vs the Others.
On another end, we have Davy Jones and his motley crew vs the Others.
As much as I’d like to see the losties triumph over the Others, I’m really very skeptical about their plan. I’m going to say that in the case of the Others vs the Fab Four, my money is on the Others. Sayid, however, may just have the upper hand. He’s smart, he’s hot, and he’s smart.

Charlie and Eko vs Des and Locke. Hmmmm. This is going to be so interesting. As much as Locke believes that it’s all an elaborate hoax, can they really take that chance??

Hurry up Part 2!
