Top 10 Results
Tumi is out!
Tumi Lesejane from Midrand is the first Top 10 contestant to be sent home in Season 9 of Idols SA. The 21-year-old musical theatre student received the disappointing news at last night's Idols Results Show, which was broadcast live from the Moreleta Park Church Auditorium in Tshwane.
Tumi was an early favourite with the judges during Hell Week at Sun City when Randall Abrahams declared that she was a pop star, and when the girls were singing for a place in the Top 10 everyone raved about her sterling performance.
Unfortunately, her rendition of the old Berlin hit from the movie “Top Gun”, “Take My Breath Away” at Sunday night's Top 10 Idols Spectacular show elicited a lukewarm response from the judges - and not enough votes to keep her in the competition.
Yet Gareth was still surprised at tonight’s results. “There were people on Sunday who performed worse,” he noted. But the judges still decided not to use their one Save of the season to rescue Tumi.
ProVerb kicked off the first Results Show of the season by separating the Top 10 girls and guys into two groups. Then he revealed that the contestant with the fewest votes was a lady, which meant that the guys were all safe.
Thereafter, the tension was built even more by sending Christina Williams and Zoe Zana and then Tumi to the Hot Seats. They had scored the fewest votes from the fans this week.
That means Christina and Zoë will have to work much harder when Ziyon from Liquideep mentors the Top 9 to prepare for this week’s musical theme, “My Idol”.
