In last nights Idols:

From the press release:

Only one week to go before M-Net’s next Idol is announced and the battle is well and truly on. The Top 3 Idols finalists - Andriëtte Norman (21), Jody Williams (17) and Munro du Toit (26) - stepped up to the plate and delivered what some believe to be their best performances in this year’s competition. The judges were extremely impressed and the audience in the Ellis Park Arena indicated their approval by raising the roof with applause and cheer.

In the videotaped inserts in tonight’s show each Idol looked back on their Idols journeyand also shared the excitement of their visit to the Egoli set this past Tuesday. Then it was down to business: tonight each Idol sang three songs - an unplugged song of their own choice, a song picked for them by the Idols producers and a song the judges chose for them.

Andriëtte

First up was Andriëtte with the acoustic song she picked: “Somewhere Over The Rainbow”, accompanied on the piano by musical director Johan Laas. Dave said after “one of the most amazing vocal performances he’d ever seen”, no-one can doubt that Randall was right about her being the best singer Idols ever had.

Idols producers picked Marc Cohn’s “Walking In Memphis” for Andriëtte and the judges chose a Dixie Chicks song: “Loving Arms”. Dave said Andriëtte had already had too many compliments for one night. Randall said there’s nothing she can’t sing.

To vote for Andriëtte call 086 22 777 06, or SMS “Andriëtte” to 34680.

Jody

“On The Wings Of Love”, was a recent hit for American Idol finalist Clay Aitken and it was Jody’s choice of opening song. Dave said it had been a long season of Idols but seeing the audience’s reaction to Jody made it all worthwhile.

The producers’ choice for Jody was “Ain’t No Other Man” by Christina Aguilera. Dave marvelled at the once shy schoolgirl who, a mere three months later, could make “the mighty Cliff” blush. And Luther Vandross’s final hit, “Dance With My Father”, was the judges’ choice for her. Mara said Jody had a bright future and Gareth commented on Jody’s skill in taking the audience through all kinds of emotions tonight.

To vote for Jody call 086 22 777 11, or SMS “Jody” to 34680.

Munro

Munro’s acoustic choice was the classic Eric Clapton ballad, “Tears In Heaven”, which Munro dedicated to his late father. Dave choked when he said that it was the most emotional performance he’d seen, and Mara was in tears and couldn’t speak. Even Gareth’s voice cracked when he told Munro he thought his father was proud of him.

The Idols producers chose the Plain White T’s current megahit, “Hey There Delilah”, for Munro. Dave called him an “ouk”, a real guy’s guy – but in a good way. “It’s endearing,” he said. And the judges’ choice for him was the Steppenwolf classic, “Born To Be Wild”. Dave said Munro’s on the brink of something amazing. “10 out of 10!” Mara shouted. “Munro’s delivered the knockout blow,” Randall croaked through his laryngitis.

To vote for Munro call 086 22 777 12, or SMS “Munro” to 34680.
