In last night's Idols:
From the press release:
There were sad faces in M-Net’s Studio 6 last night as the remaining Idols contestants said farewell to Daniel Büys.
As Colin commented, the Top 5 Spectacular was probably one of the best shows yet this season and the viewers seemed to agree, racking up just under 950 000 votes (949 493 to be precise) - a new record for this phase of the competition and a new record for Season Four.
But still - someone had to go. Pabi Moloi from YFM 99.2 predicted that it would be Munro. Lindsay Batteson from OFM and Damon Beard from East Coast Radio reckoned it would be Jody. And for Richard Hardiman from 94.5 KFM, Selwyn Willis from Algoa FM and Kieno Kammies from Jacaranda 94.2, the bell tolled for Daniel.
“I think the judges’ comments do influence the DJs,” said Daniel. “I don’t think I was as bad as those guys said.” Munro just smiled about being called out again by Pabi Moloi. “I actually do like her,” he joked. “I don’t know what she has against me.”
But then it was down to business and Colin called all five contestants onto the stage and split them up “randomly”, he said. Munro, Jody, Andriëtte stayed on stage with Colin and Tender and Daniel were sent back to their seats as the show went into the first commercial break.
“I’m extremely nervous,” Munro admitted at that stage, but as Andriëtte told Colin, it was in God’s hands. Jody said she just wanted the news to be delivered quickly. Then, suddenly, the moment had arrived… an obviously relieved Jody was sent back to her seat. And so was Andriëtte, leaving only a very worried Munro on the stage.
But it wasn’t him either. It would be either Tender or Daniel, Colin announced - before going into the tensest commercial break of the contestants’ lives! “I hope I beat you, dammit!” Daniel teased Tender. But then the moment had arrived - Daniel Büys was the fifth-from-last contestant to leave Idols Season Four.
