In last night's Idols:
From the press release:
After a patriotic Spectacular in which the Top 7 Idols celebrated the music of South Africa, it was time to face the music and say goodbye to someone, and last night that someone was Carla Louw.
As always, Colin started the show with a roundup of what the listeners of the nation’s top radio stations thought.
This week the results were split down the middle - Kieno Kammies from Jacaranda 94.2, 94.5 KFM’s Richard Hardiman and Selwyn Willis from Algoa FM all reported that their listeners thought it was time for Björn to say goodbye.
But according to YFM’s Pabi Moloi, Lindsay Batteson of OFM and East Coast Radio’s Damon Beard, their listeners predicted the end of the road for Carla. Björn wasn’t daunted though - “I think my fans will pull me through,” he told Colin. But Carla admitted that she was feeling the pressure.
But it’s the votes that determine the outcome of Idols, and even though the judges called this week’s show a full house of great performances, someone still had to go home.
The three Idols at the bottom of the judges’ scorecard were Carla, Jody and Björn. But once again South Africa’s voters disagreed with the judges - the fans made it clear that they want Jody to stay. That left an empty spot in the combined bottom three and that position was filled by none other than Daniel.
Colin opened the envelope and showed Daniel and the viewers at home his cue card leaving Björn and Carla in the dark for yet another commercial break.
But then he kept it mercifully brief and put Carla out of her misery. “I love all of you so much,” she told the remaining Top 6 in farewell.
