Here's what went down in last night's episode of Idols:
From the press release:
Dominic Momberg’s Idols dream of fame and fortune came to an abrupt end tonight (14 October) when he became the first Top 10 casualty.
Before Colin got to the judges’ and viewers’ results there was an opinion poll of the country’s top radio stations. Kfm in the Cape, Ofm in Central South Africa, Yfm in Jozi and Jacaranda in Centurion voted for Dom to go home, while Algoa listeners in P.E. and East Coast listeners in Durban wanted to say goodbye to Carla. “It does make me think I’m more likely to go home,” Dom admitted to Colin. But Carla, whose name also came up twice, said she tried to cut herself off from other people’s comments.
Tonight Colin didn’t split the group into the judges’ top and bottom halves, as usual. Instead, he went straight to the judges’ bottom three contestants, and they were Yolanda, Dominic and Carla.
Johannesburg’s stormy weather suited the Top 10’s anxious mood as the three stood together on stage to await the bad news. It was the 763 205 votes cast by the fans that would decide the Idols’ fate and for the fans, tonight would be Dom’s last show.
“I’ve had long enough to prepare myself for this, I was the only guy to get four negative comments from the judges,” Dominic told Colin. “My ride’s been amazing - God is in control,” he commented philosophically.
As Dominic left the Idols studio, the remaining Top 9 returned home to get their heads together for this weekend’s Top 9 show. The musical theme for the Top 9 show is “Crooners And Divas”, and now the hard work lies ahead, rehearsing with Musical Director Johan Laas, vocal coach Malie Kelly, and the Idols band.
