Isidingo: Who's that girl??

I would like to believe that people behind Isidingo do read this blog, (seeing that they listened to my “changing the opening sequence” advice). Now could you please update your website. Is Tim still coming back? It will also be nice to read up on the new characters: who they are and what their roles in the drama will be!!! So guys please revamp the website.

And most importantly apologies for not posting the recap last week..my work & school are consuming me...thats why this is a Double Dose isiDingo covering what happened at The Deep between the 20th - 31st of August... lets do this..

Alec and Chad...

Well if you missed Isidingo the past 2 weeks here's a quick filler. Lee didn’t want Alec to go to Chad but because she is a woman who doesn’t want to loose her man, she compromised and let him go. Alec promised her that this was the last time. He got to Chad with 3 of his colleagues and they were held hostage by General Essien (however u spell his name). The General was torturing them because Alec apparently had access to $23 million in cash and he needed this cash to bribe some officials for releasing weapons of mass distraction. Alec's hesitation cost him 2 of his men who were shot point black by Dr. Mandla Sithole the General.

He wanted to torture the 2 men left (Alec & Jericho) by bringing in Jericho's daughter (Chloe) and asked the soldiers to have their way with her... still, Alec didnt give him the info he wanted.

Since Lee couldn’t get hold of her man, she tracked him down thanx to these fancy phones with GPS. She finally traced his where abouts and also established that her man is in deep trouble. The Barker side of her came out when he threatened the General by telling him to look under his desk. Lee somehow managed to have someone put explosives there. The General saw that Lee Haines meant business. He released Alec, Jericho and his daughter... just like that. No if's or buts...

Now that Alec is back in Jozi, he's mentally disturbed, constantly has nightmares about the ordeal and doesn’t want to open up to Lee and tell her exactly what happened. One thing she knows is that she didn’t help much by threatening the General. It then turned out that General Essien was able to get all the weapons from France. Meaning he was able to bribe the officials. Alec feels that his holding back  (and loosing 2 of his friends) was for nothing, because he was trying to stop him from getting to these weapons. He won’t undergo any counseling to deal with the trauma. He instead packed his bags and said he's going for a drive and doesn’t know when he'll be back. So Lee is left alone, yet again.

Moral of the story: If you don’t feel like doing something don’t. Your 6th sense is telling you something will go wrong. Lee should've stuck to her word and not let Alec go. Now he's "dead" as he put it! Now that he's gone... maybe Q can step in and comfort the ice queen.

Who's that girl???

A new face checked in at the Duncan Hotel...Isidingo went and took a Gen Ex! She saw Lee and told her how much she admirers her and how she's kept up with her career. Lee didn’t know if she should take this as a compliment or just stalker antics... so being the classy lady she is, she smiled and thanked her. She later saw Barker chatting with Lee and her eyes lit up, she asked Lee if that is her father. Since we didn’t know what this girl's agenda is, she phoned Harriet to make an appointment with Barker. When Harriet asked what it's about, she said it was private. Harriet didn’t put her call through to Barker. It was then revealed that her name is Dineo Sekete when she rocked up at Barker's office. She waited at reception for the whole day hoping to see Barker. The next day, Barker decided to see her. She just wants to work for Barker as an unpaid intern because she believes she can learn a lot from him.

On another hand Lee is getting skeptical about this Dineo, she's been staying in the hotel and hasn’t stated if she's at The Deep for business or pleasure. She asked Orlando to keep a close eye on her.

Barker gave Dineo a job as an assistant PA for 2 weeks, after he had a chat with her. She studied overseas and is a qualified CA. Harriet is not happy with Barker's decision but he tells her that he feels like he knows her from somewhere. Dineo phoned someone:
"...I got a job as Barker's PA. I know it's not what I wanted but it will get me closer to him. I don’t want to just walk up to him and say "Excuse me Mr. Haines, but i'm actually your daughter..."

What?? Daughter?? Barker is white...how the hell did Barker produce a black daughter?? Guys come on... did he adopt a child and forget about it??? I know we have doctor blogger, can she explain this to us! They could have brought a coloured actor instead, like Renate Stuurman...ooh forgot she was there already!! hmm .. Grace is already on Generations...?? They could've taken Lorcia Cooper... has she given birth?? After Backstage canning, she needs the extra money! I would love to learn how Barker actually fathered a black daughter... interesting...!!

AfricON! TV

Barker is up to something, he's been buying ON!TV shares as Rajesh (yes he's back) found out. When he told Lee, Lee ran to daddy to find out what he's up to. In short: Barker wants Lee to quit running the hotel and come back as a full time CEO. He's trying to save a sinking boat that is AfriCast because revenues have gone down. He then went to see Frank with a preposition, merge Africast and ON! (hence I thought of the name AfricON! TV) because the one station has what the other doesn’t have, so to him the merger will only build a stronger station. He even offered Frank a position to head up both stations and told him not to mention this to anyone yet.

Back at ON! Rajesh is warning Frank to be careful of Barker because he might be up to something. Frank had to pretend he doesn’t know what he's talking about.

After much thought of what to do with her life to make her happy and fulfilled, Lee decided to officially resign as CEO at ON!TV. When she told Rajesh that she's resigning because of her heart. Rajesh asked "You have a heart problem??" and Lee replied "Noooo, my heart is not in it anymore". So Lee is off to find what makes her happy. She pointed out that the hotel make her very happy, so we'll see her there more often, with Q getting steamy "wink wink"

Now that Lee has officially resigned, it means Rajesh is the acting CEO until the board members vote in a new CEO. Barker wants the board to vote for Frank as the new CEO. Frank is caught at a cross road: advancing his career or stabbing his best friend in the back. When Rajesh announced that he's CEO until the board makes a decision, Frank pretended not to know anything. When Rajesh asked him to be his second in command, he told him he needs time to think bout it.

Another GenEx (& Backstage can) was revealed... Shaan... is in Isidingo too. How typical, she's Indian and she had to accidentally bump into Rajesh and there were a few sparks that flew... seems like Rajesh will eventually get some lahving!! Again, I dont know what her role is, but we'll find out soon. I dont read recaps...so i'll just watch and see.

Farrow van de Kamp...

Paul thought Farrow has an obsessive compulsive disorder and hates that she is re-arranging his underwear. Yep she's really becoming a Bree Van de Kamp of the Deep, she even drew up a roster for them. Maggie likes having her around and Lolly doesn't mind her either. Speaking of Lolly, seems like we'll be seeing less of her because she got a freelance job to do a doccie on the cape flats.

Farrow feels she has nothing to offer Len, who's been kind to her. So she decided to upgrade his wardrobe. Bad idea girl, never buy a man new clothes especially if you didn’t ask for his input. Should've just bought him 1 shirt, this month, a jersey the following month, etc. She even bought the clothes on credit!! I remember thinking why doesn’t she get a job and stop getting on Paul's nerves. She later decided that she'll study through correspondence and get a job...!! Well Len hated the clothes obviously, and told her that he likes his look the way it is.

Now she feels even more useless. When they kissed and made up, Len first told her that he likes her but doesn’t need to be mothered. Farrow revealed that she has no disorder, she was doing all of this to pay back Len for all he's done for her. Thank Gaad, we won’t see a domesticated Farrow for a while...

When Lolly told Frank that she's resigning he didn’t want to let her go, he told her that he will only let her take unpaid leave but when she's done she must come back to ON! He also told her to loose the emotional side and that will make her a strong journalist. I wonder where she's going?? Anyone know??

Mojalefa is sick...

It was just a matter of time that Refilwe came back into the picture. Just in time to taint Ma'Agnes councilor image. Lefa is now 3 and half years and he's sick. The boy is sick because he was never properly introduced to the Matabanes ancestors. Zeb is scared to tell his wife, or everytime he tries to, councilor Eggie's phone rings. She's just too busy to listen to her man. The uncles intervened and Zeb was forced to find accommodation for Lefa & Refilwe at the Deep.

Maggie was option 1 and she refused over and over again, but eventually gave in. So Refilwe and Lefa will be staying at the Bullers without councilor Eggie's knowledge...heheheh.. I see Eggie taking out her whip again...!!! Refilwe!! Watch out girl..

Kanti why doesn’t Zeb just become a man and tell his wife... uyakwatisa yazi (makes me mad)... its quiet clear who wears the pants in the MatabaneMoletsane household..!!

^^**^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*THE END^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^
I dont have a child and so I wont speak about how important it is to ensure that the child is introduced to his/her ancestors (usually the father's side), but I've been told of the importance of doing this ritual for the child's well being.

Reading one of the blogs I realised that there are a lot of mothers on TVSA. Now to you guys as black mothers...please educate us (those who dont have kids) and the non-black people of this ritual.

#How important the ritual is?
#What exactly does the ritual entail?
#Did you do the ritual or you dont believe in it?
#Do you know of any cases where a child got sick because this ritual was never performed?

We live in a new age society and sometimes we forget or choose to ignore our rituals. So let us know of your experiences.

Phew... that was long...! I apologize again for the late recap... im out...

MUCH LAHV...

Hey Lahvee, thanks for the recap. Thanks to DSTv i hardly find time to watch Isidingo.

My father is a true traditionalist so as modern as I am I believe in African rituals.

Very interesting blog, I like de way u think

#How important the ritual is?- Culture is crucial to black people whether they like it or not, but of cause, cultural sessions differ with each and every tribe.
#What exactly does the ritual entail?-If he was Xhosa I would say slaughtering a goat,(he has to eat certain part of the goat, and cover his face with clayey soil for 3 days) that’s called imbeleko.
#Did you do the ritual or you dont believe in it?-I did it when I was 3 years old, of course I don’t remember but I learnt about the ceremony through my younger siblings.
#Do you know of any cases where a child got sick because this ritual was never performed- I don’t understand Sotho but in the case of Xhosa’s Lefa didn’t need to perform the ceremony. Refiloe isn’t married to Zeb, therefore that means the boy belongs to Refiloe’s family and all his rituals should be those of Refiloe’s family,he will only be a Matabane if Refiloe’s was Zeb’s wife.

Yah andi01, you are right on the last comment, a child is a mother's child until she marries the fathers child.

In Xhosa it becomes important when the boy child is heading to initiation school. Even if the dad denies paternity the child gets the ceremony from the mother’s side but first the family needs to ask the father to accept the child. A friend of mine had to beg his married with kids no good father to secretly perform the ritual before he went to initiation. Eventually he agreed and the mom’s side had to bear the costs.

Dineo is too black to be of mixed race. They could have even searched for a lighter skinned actress ke if they were that desperate.

i think the msebenzi you are talking about here Lahvee is IMBELEKO, where the kid must be hlabel'd imbuzi enden bese they give the kid the african bracelet. its the best i can do guys since i dont believe in such things

Your stories just reminded me of someone (grown man) who told me that he's having constant bad luck. He was recently told who his real father is and needs to do a ritual now to cleanse him or something. Its pretty hectic.

My other friend had to take her new born daughter to the partenal grandmother's grave and be introduced. She said it was cold July and the baby was wrapped in a cloth and put on the grandma's grave. the parternal family is Swati. The daughter still wears that skin on the wrist and should be cut off when she turns 7.

So I guess its mainly for guidance...

Barker was black before and did the michael Jackson thing. Thats the only explanation there is to it.

04 Sep 2007 08:53

I agree with u Andy since im also a Xhosa it is important & what my mama told mi is if i get a baby without marriage, i must not take the baby to his home (the father) bcoz u wil make the baby sick. Talk 2 the baby & tel her/him that u belong 2 this family(mine), introduce ur baby 2 ur ancestors not his. But they say there r families that r stronger like they will make ur baby sick or become mad (i-saylon) so its where u cant control & u have 2 introduce the baby 2 the family (fathers family).Even myself when i was young like 7-13 i had eyes problem they did bought glasses bt it didnt help up until they cut my face two times in my cheeks so it did help me & im okey. I do believe in those things & sometimes u cant find job bcoz of those rituals. U just cant run bt face it & do it

The Lefa story is interesting, the age difference between him and Lettie is so huge. Men do not think,  you d be suprised to know that it happens, my father was born in 1945, his three sisters, my aunties were born in 1984,1991,1993, from 3 different mothers of course, so lamadoda lana awagugi, and by the way my late grand father was born in 1918.can you believe it. To some black person who doesnt beleive in cultural actvities, could they tell me why

04 Sep 2007 09:05

well i think all of this depends on an individual if they believe in it or not im xhosa my childs father is zulu and they do it(isiphandla) even if you are not married but on my side abexhosa the child is mine and belongs to my clan as i am not married.. but if need be for my childs sake i will do it

04 Sep 2007 10:30

there's nothing betta than a thinking, intelligent black woman - here' s my story/experience.... i was born in New York yeeaars ago, and my parents bought me to visit my grandparents in katlehong when i was 3 years old. the day after we arrived, i got SICK SICK SICK SICK- inexplicably so.  fever, vomiting, the works. they called in the doctors, who had no clue.

then an old auntie said - why're you all so surprised - kana this child isn't known by her ancestors, she was born far away, and nobody did anything besides plant a tree (my gran's sentimental like that) to mark the occasion. Best you slaughter something to make up for it, and introduce her to her ancestors. coz she's a stranger to them, and is suffering because of your bad behaviour

so they did, bought in a sangoma ,, slaughtered a cow,  and all my mum's aunties spoke to the ancestors for me- and within a day, i was FINE.

coincidence? i doubt it.

Wow interesting Lahvee....

I'm LOL at the Barker/Dineo saga...guys your comments are funny....why are you such "colourists?" (since I can't call you r***sts). You are saying uDineo is too dark he he he maybe the reason why she's that dark is because her mother was dark dark dark dark so the best Barker's blood could to "enlighten" that darkness is Dineo...gaad, I'm not making sense.

Next point...
Lahvee uthi uFarrow is still in Isidingo kanti?? Why isn't she the one going to Cape Town?
Imagine telling Len about his wardrobe, did she fix her hair yena??

Maybe Kim (lolly) is off to shoot some movie somewhere, I got no idea.

What's this you're saying about Lee and Q? Hayi bo, imagine Lee's thin lips being swallowed by Q, hayi sana.

I am one of those people who don't believe in the cultural rituals. I am Xhosa, my father was Zulu and he and my mother were married and got divorced. I know they do perfom these on my father's side but because I grew up on my mother's family side we don't belive in them. Even my grandparents on my mothe's side never did them, that is probably why we don't know anything about them.
