e.tv's announced that they've bought the rights to the flashy 2008 version of American Gladiators. The show kicks off with Season 1 on Monday, 20 October at 20h00.
A revival of the old Gladiators series, the show relaunched in the US earlier this year and has just completed Season 2. As with the orginal, it features gladiators competing against real life people/gladiator-hopefuls in a series of activities that demand a lot of smacking.
Hosted by pro-wrestler Hulk Hogan and Mohammed Ali's daughter-boxer Laila Ali, the first season features 24 competitors vying for victory over the Gladiators for a prize of $100 000, a 2008 Toyota Sequoia and the bragging rights of being a Gladiator in Season 2.
Each episode features two men and two women who compete against each other and the gladiators to win as many points as possible in a series of games. Games include things like Assault, Earthquake and Hang Tough - all self-explanatory.
The competitors need to win as many points as possible before the final Eliminator round, where they see if they have enough Gladiator in them to stay in the competition.
Some of The Eliminator obstacles in the first season include firey furnaces, foam walls, lopsided balance beams and vertical treadmills.
Keep a lookout on TVSA closer to the premiere for more news, including who's who in the zoo Gladiator-wise.
