New shows on Discovery this December:

World's Richest People
Premiere date: 2 December at 16h00

There are 946 billionaires in the world, this is the rich and famous league of the world - some known and some not so well known. The Ho family in Hong Kong is one of the wealthiest families in the Asia Pacific, the family’s net worth is $7 billion. Discovery Channel takes us behind the scenes to find out how the family accumulated its wealth, they remain the most powerful family in Hong Kong.

In former communist Ukraine we meet Eduard Shifrin who had a tough up bringing and now owns a giant steel company he used to work. Shifrin does not think twice about spending $1000 on a single shot of whisky - his is a real story of rags to riches.

The search for the wealthy also moves to Africa, where we come face to face with Abel Damoussi, who owns a chain of luxury hotels and private clubs frequented by some of Hollywood’s top actors.

The daily lives of the rich are somewhat a dream to most people, one that may never come true, because as it seems, wealth is for the chosen few.

Football Hooligans International
Premiere date: Monday 17 December at 22h00

The wave of violence carried out by football hooligans is comparable to the massive grandstands in some of the world’s biggest soccer stadiums. It’s become more organised, hooliganism has emerged as subculture to which soccer fans commit their lives. Discovery Channel follows Danny Dyer as he journeys across Europe and South America to make sense of hooliganism in football.

He is confronted with an ugly side of the most loved game, lives have been lost and many have fallen victim to the violence at soccer games. In Argentina, hooliganism was declared a national crisis and a whole season was cancelled. Danny meets with the ringleaders and their followers; he uncovers a grim world where only insanity, masqueraded as passion for soccer, rules. The game of soccer is governed by rules but in the streets it’s the hooligans that reign.

Birth Of A Racer
Premiere date: Friday, 21 December at 18h30

Michael Czysz is a seasoned interior designer who revamped the home of rock star Lenny Kravitz and former model Cindy Crawford. His eccentric design style says a lot about him, he’s a risk taker and hates conformity. Michael has not a shred of experience in engineering, but he will make an attempt at building a revolutionary motorbike. Michael and his team of maverick engineers will build a motor bike that is lighter, more maneuverable and technologically advanced.

It’s not going to be easy, the team will have to build up every single part of the bike and produce motorbike that has never been seen. Michael has succeeded at designing houses for the rich and famous, but designing and building a motor bike from scratch sounds a bit daunting for someone who has never had his hands greasy.

Discovery Atlas: South Africa
Premiere date: Wednesday, 26 December at 18h00

Discovery Atlas captures the essence of South African culture and its people in a journey through one of the world’s most culturally diverse nations in the world. We meet South Africans, both young old and discover how a country with over 47 million people and 11 official languages is able to embrace a new democracy.

It’s a conversation with ordinary South Africans that provides a window into the lives of ordinary men such as Peter Mputle, who works in 2,5 mile deep mine in Johannesburg and his long time dream to own a house he can call his own.

In the Kalahari, we meet the San people people who still remain unaffected by modern influences - they still perform a sacred dance before they go hunting. Atlas South Africa portrays an honest look of South Africa’s history, culture, wildlife, technology and military strength.

Chop Shop: London Garage
Premiere date: Wednesday, 26 December at 21h00

Two men, one British and the other Bangladeshi, come together to design and create monster cars out of banged up wrecks they pick up from scrap yards around London. They only have £4 000 and a run down garage in downtown East London, and from this confined space they will create cars worthy of staging a presence at England‘s most prestigious motor auction.

In the first episode, Bernie Fineman who hails from London takes Leepu - the emotionally temperamental Bangladeshi car mechanic - shopping for a scrap car. Known as the ‘Bangla Bashers’, the men will have to fuse their clashing ideas and cultures to create a car that looks like nothing on earth.

They pick up a run down German car which they hope to turn into a super car in only 21 days. Just when the Chop Shop team thought they had all in order, the car burns in an over night fire; but the team does not give up. They have a deadline to meet, and time is not on their side.
