SABC2's lifestyle magazine show Eastern Mosaic's on the search for new presenters to join their team as field reporters around the country.

The show's looking for presenters between the ages of 18 and 24 who are well-spoken and able to project their personality on screen.

You don't need to have television or journalistic experience but you do need to be able to memorise script well and be able to ad lib and do off-the-cuff interviews when required.

The search has been on since the beginning of the year and the show recently announced that it's been extended until the end of May. If you think you have what it takes go for it and apply!

Here's a direct link to the audition application form on Eastern Mosaic's website:

Eastern Mosaic Presenter Search.

Please take note that they're not accepting applications via e-mail - only by post.

They heading should have gone as: "Eastern Mosaic wants 'Indian' Presenters".
Black people who went to the Johannesburg auditions were furious with the way things were done at Red Carpet Productions yesterday.

Apparently the queue was not that long, wanna take a guess why?
The black people were being chopped down without even being given the chance to show their ability in front of the camera.

Mainly Indians were given the scripts to try their luck in front of the camera and in front of the judges.

What pissed people off even more is that some people had applied way in advance, sent in their form and their photos. Therefore, the producers and organisers knew that those people were very African, meaning black, and they still called them asking them to come to auditions.

One lady even called the company and asked: Are you sure you are looking for "everybody" to audition? because i'm black and i know that's an Indian show and I dont want to waste my time and money coming all the way. Are you sure you are not only looking for indians? My hair is not even straight you know?" And the response was: come one come all.

Apparently there was a journalist from the SABC at the auditions, people told their grievances to her, but I hear she cant be trusted because she was not taking any notes (like normal journalists) and she dressed like she was just dragged from the garden and ordered to go and cover the auditions without being given some time to prepare herself to look a bit professional.

so that is what happened at the Johannesburg auditions of Eastern Mosaic yesterday.

Ms Sekete
28 Aug 2008 14:28

i sacrifised my time and wasted my money, skipped lectures and off i went to the so called eastern mosiac 'indian' presenter search...
i have to say, what went down there was bull...these where the worst auditions i've ever beeen in...
how can someone judge u before u even being a chance to stand infront of the camera and show your abilities.
auditions means being given a script and the judges will jugde u based on your perfomance.
well the eastern mosaic probably conducted the auditions in an unknwn manner.
u were rejected before u even stood in front of the camera.
u were asked a few lame questons and given a folded paper to take to someone who was gona tell u that u not what they need.
what do they need? indians?...gee! they should have been more specific and saved us the humilation.

ON A VERY SERIOUS NOTE THOUGH, I'M REALLY UPSET ABOUT THE WAY I WAS TREATED AND  I ANSWER ALL THE QUESTION CORRECTLY...AND AFTER I WENT TO THE OTHER DOOR AND WAS TOLD THAT I DIDNT MAKE IT,I WENT BACK TO THE PERSON WHO INTERVIEWED ME AND ASKED HIM WHERE I FLOPPED CAUSE TO MY BELIEFS I THINK I DID EXCELLENT AND  HE SAID I DID GOOD BUT I IF I DID GOOD THEN I REALLY DONT KNOW WHAT HAPPENED....IM REALLY REALLY DISSAPOINTED, THIS IS NOT WHAT I EXPECTED!

What @ Ms Sekete!!!!!!that is crazy man.....Me went to Cape Town auditions neh, i was the only black girl there and the 2 black guys were chopped out b4 even getting to camera and fortunatly for me i went through to all the rounds and now im through to the 3rd round which is around september............Judging from what you're saying they better not be fooling me/using me to chop me out at the end cause im black, its ridiculous nyani wena nxn....

Funky Me

chocamocha
04 Sep 2008 03:14

I dont know, at the end of the day, this show is about Indian culture and lifestyle (as in India the country) I think if anyone of any race is passionate about India and has some background knowledge of it, as well as good presenting skills, they will go through. I dont think we should get sensitive about it being a race issue. Its not about race.

If the Greeks had a show about Greece and greeks in SA, surely they would prefer an actual greek or at someone who has knowledge and love of Greece and greek culture. Same with Chinese culture or Zulu culture. If its a zulu show about Zulu history, practices, lifestyle food and culture, surely the presenter must understand Zulu culture to present it? The presenter may not need to be Zulu, but they must at least be knowldegeable of the culture? Ms Sekete, did you ever watch Eastern Mosaic? Do you have knowledge about India as a country? its history, culture etc? Im not trying to put you down or anything but maybe we should put this into perspective.

I do agree that that the organisers or whatever should have been more specific about they looking for, although I dont think its necessarily an Indian person, just someone who can relate to and understand Indian culture.

Sindel
08 Sep 2008 04:38

To All you "Black" people that shows the anger on this page, Come on Guys give Us indians a chance too , so what if Eastern mosaic is looking for Indian presenters at least they are giving us indians value for PAYING our TV licence... there is nothing elses that caters for the Indian community... HOW MANY ADVERTISEMENTS HAVE YOU SEEN WITH INDIAN PEOPLE ON SABC..... 1 for KFC But that guy is not Indian), and like you we pay our TV licence every year for that 1 hour once a week... lets be honest black people are on every advert, every soapie all the time. Besides be real you done see me going to audition for Jam alley or Selimatunzi now do you?

Please SABC has to also cater for Indians... we do exist? and its unfair that my kids turns on the Telly and thinks " are we the only Indian family in SA"

BE real and stop complaining Blacks already have enough on TV so let it be

cleve
08 Sep 2008 05:24

Sindel you are missing the point. These people are not fighting about them wanting Indians only on the show. They are talking about wasting theri time going to the auditions and only to find out when you are already ther that Indians are preferred for the show. No one is talkign about race here. SA and it's racial issues........

Sindel
08 Sep 2008 07:15

Hi Cleve... Thanks for the clarity because from reading ALL the comments the guys make it seem as if they where cast out for being BLACK,,, and thats how they felt thats the expression they are portraying on this site... surely before you go for an audition or even an interview you should research the program, have these guys ever heard of Eastern Mosaic...? and lets be honest  the TV industry is extremely specific when the looking for actors, i have been to auditions before where the people auditioning me  looked at me and told me im Not suitable for the role ... thats it ... are you telling me that all these people only experienced this now and they are bringing it up only now  because it is an "Indian show"... would they have brought it up if it happened on say a Black program...you tell me. people are amazing they only complain when it suits them to... maybe i should complain for every audition i have been to ( for the past 20 years) i was too black before and too white now. how does it help our political status in our country.... every one complains but Indians hardly ever say anything for all the treatment we get......... Lets not make it a race thing and accept that these guys did not cut the profile, why are they complaining it was because they are black.. MIND YOU I AM INDIAN AND I WENT FOR THE EASTERN MOSAIC AUDITIONS, I WAS INTERVIEWD AND DIDNOT MAKE IT NOW YOU TELL ME WHY DIDNT I MAKE IT? THESE GUYS MUST CHOOSE THEIR WORDS CAREFULLY, I DIDNT MAKE IT BECAUSE I DID NOT FIT THE PROFILE ... SIMPLE. I ALSO WASTED TIME AND MONEY TO GET THERE BUT THIS IS THE INDUSTRY, THEY FEEL THEY WHERE LEFT OUT BECAUSE AGAIN THE ARE BLACK SO CAN THESE GUYS ALL OF THEM EXPLAIN TO ME WHY I WASNT CHOOSEN... I AWAIT RESPONSES.....

11 Sep 2008 12:39

haybo guys...........u are missing the point here......they said 'Eastern Mosaic wants presenters'' come one come all, whether youre black or blue..
People waisted their time and money to go to the auditions and only to be chopped out before even getting a chance to audition.....Whats the point here,...they shouldnt have said they want anyone, YES we understand its an indian show and apparently they wanted to bring in sumthing new to the show sumthing fresh thats why the said come one come all, and seriously mina dont see a problem since the producers always know whats good for the show and suprisingly enough its not only indians who watches the show..........maybe they are trying to attract black people too or whatever they are trying to do....

But my point remains..........If youre good at presenting and you have that drive, that vibrant attitude that can bring life to the show then hey, you exatly what they need......and ofcourse a little nyana knowlegde about their culture(of which not necessary cause they just give you a script and wena u read qha)

who said presenting is about the colour of your skin....Haaaawu!

sinsel u are completely missing the point here...maybe thats why you went even chosen ( your answers were all irrelevent)- hope that answers your questions.
now dont go and bitch about indians not being on  soapies and adverts, this is not the south african broadcasting commission blog, go protest at the sabc and tell them that you want shows that caters for the sabc community.
but first and formost, i wasnt complaining to you, theres nothing u can do for me anyway and u should have spared your lousy comments.
and as unconviencing as it may seem, we darkies also pay tv our tv licences, its not only indians who do that!...so please dont come here and *bleep!* abot racial issues what i said is that indian mosaic should have been more specific that the auditions were only open for indians!

and i'm just wondering, how does one hustle for 20 years without finally getting a role!

Guys Chocamocha said it all, there is no need to bring racial issues up, Witwolf stop looking for provocation - you are stirring up trouble!!!!! Leave it alone - that is not your place - and stop being a bully by telling people off.

Sindel an Ms. Sekete calm down - these are bloggs please tread carefully, we all entitled to opinion, i Know but TVSA is not the place for racial issues. We want to remain on TVSA without getting into a stitch with the law.

Ms. Sekete u r clearly annoyed but it was just an audtion, we don always win as much as we think we did our best - maybe our best wasn good enough for that particular need. Better luck next time dear

Sindel Not everyone will see things from your point of view, this is Africa for all Africans, if SABC is showing too much "black" then maybe you need to come up with a show to compliment SABC's efforts to entertain people that will show another side to Indian culture other than Eastern Mosiac. Did it ever occur to you that you are able to do that and did it also occur to you that maybe Indians, Greeks, Jews and Coloreds don go for as many auditions as black people or that we leave it up to Black people to do all the work of creative thinkn coz "we rely on DSTV"?

We must be open minded about some of these things and not play the race card everytime we run into trouble. The deaf community also had complaints about teh fact that they are not catered for - after some time we were introduced to sign language on news and also some programs now there is deaf tv.

and its not like with a black presenter on the show the welcome link will be ''''Sanibonani nonke emakhaya siyanamukela kwa Eastern Mosaic'''''''
