Call For Singers To Shine

Despite the huge success of I Want To Sing Gospel, SABC2 has failed to deliver on an antipicated second season. Word from a mole close to the goss is that there are no plans for it in the foreseeable future either.

The result: DStv's ONE Gospel (Channel 331) has scooped in with a new alternative called Shine - a reality talent search for a winning Gospel singer.

The series is hosted by DJ, TV presenter, evangelist and author Zanele Mbokazi and gospel muso and pastor Lionel Petersen.

It premieres on Sunday, 8 August at 17h00, while the auditions take place round the country. Auditions begin in Mamelodi, Pretoria on Thursday, 5 August and end in Durbs at the beginning of September.

The prize: moolah (amount to be confirmed) and an album and DVD recording deal from SouthStone Records. The winner will also headline ONE Gospel's first live concert which debuts this December.

The format of the show:

The judges (industry professionals) will choose two finalists from each region (12 in total) who will travel to ONE Gospel studios in Jozi to participate in the knockout rounds.

Performers will then do their thang in performance shows on Sunday - they'll need to impress the judges and studio audience to stay in the competition.

Three finalists will be eliminated at the end of each performance episode and in the final episode, judges and the studio audience will vote for the overall winner from the last remaining three.

Audition news:

The dates and places have been confirmed, but not the venues yet - we'll update as soon as they are. In the meantime, this is when you can expect the auditions in different regions - as you'll see they take place on Thursdays and Fridays over six weeks:

Soweto, Johannesburg
On: 12 and 13 August 2010

Lakazi, Nelspruit
On: 19 and 20 August 2010

Seshego, Polokwane
On: 26 and 27 August 2010

Khayelitsha, Cape Town
On: 2 and 3 September 2010

Umlazi, Durban
On: 9 and 10 September 2010

To audition you need to prepare a song and take along your ID book. We'll update the venue info. here once it's available.

atleast they are going to Limpopo unlike most shows, who only visit KZN,Easten Cape and Gauteng

Hi everyone - apologies for not updating - we've tried getting further info. from the show but it's proven to be impossible. We've never found it as difficult getting info about auditions for a reality show so we've given up. We even watched the channel for five hours straight to see if we could see a promo - but there was nothing on at the time so we've given up.

Also - when we followed up to find out about the specific venues they told us that auditionees need to register via an SMS number - so you can't just pitch up and do your thing - the number's been in Die Son and on the channel apparently - the show wouldn't give us the number or further info.

None of these restrictions and difficulties were clarified when the show was announced. Sorry guys - our advice: if you haven't seen promos or further info anywhere - rather go for the Popstars auditions or wait to see if SABC2 does I Want To Sing Gospel again. The way the logitsics of this show's been handled is completely different to how IWTSG was in the first season - which was open and easily accessible to everyone.

im shocked! how are we supposed to know where the auditions are held if they dont tell? which means a talented wannabe from a rural area with no dstv wont make it. eh? that s so shocking. so discouraging.

Aargh, why would they announce that they having auditions and not give out all information to the people. I hate such things, still they say ngabazalwane. This looks like it's going to be the disorganised auditions ever.
