M-Net and Endemol SA will choose the contestants of the next season of
Survivor South Africa in a novel way this year: open castings will be held in three major cities around the country, in Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg.
According to Pierre Cloete, M-Net's Channel Head, this is a fair and sure-fire method to find the best possible castaways for the series.
"By doing open auditions straight away, instead of asking people to send in paper or online entries, thousands more people will get the opportunity to see the Survivor selectors face to face.
"It's often difficult to express a colourful or tenacious personality on paper and we don't want any great candidates to fall through the cracks," he said.
Entries are open for South African citizens above the age of 21. Candidates also have to be good swimmers, who are mentally and physically healthy and fit. Furthermore, they will have to bring their valid passport along to register at the open castings.
Don't think you can just turn up, though - you're going to have to demonstrate your ability to entertain. "You'll have to arrive with an outstanding plan to persuade us that you will be strong and smart enough to survive the hardships of a desolate island and that you are willing to play the game strategically," says Cloete.
Eligible potential contestants need to be at the following venues on the following dates:
Cape TownDate: Saturday, 21 August
Venue: Riverclub (Liesbeek Parkway, Observatory, Cape Town)
DurbanDate: Saturday, 28 August
Venue: Sahara Cricket Stadium, Kingsmead (2 Kingsmead Way, Durban)
JohannesburgDate: Saturday, 4 September
Venue: Wanderers Cricket Stadium (Corlett Drive, Illovo)
The audition process will start at approximately 09h00 at all of these venues, but it will work on a first-come-first served basis and there will be a cut-off time for registration.
