Coming up on Carte Blanche this week:

PetroSA

Called “Project Mthombo”, this oil refinery, the brainchild of fuel supplier PetroSA, is to be built near the Coega Industrial Development Zone and deepwater port. But many question the need for a state-of-the-art crude refinery, saying our biggest energy priority should be Eskom.

And as with many other mega projects, questions hang over who will benefit from this one, worth R80-billion. Carte Blanche examines the pros and cons of Mthombo.

Producer: Bernadette Cook
Presenter: Bongani Bingwa
Journalist: Wynand Grobler

Midmar Muck

Our Constitution guarantees us the right to an environment not harmful to our health and one in which pollution is prevented. So how come a local council is allowing raw sewerage to flow into the Midmar Dam and Umgeni River? Carte Blanche does some sniffing around.

Producer: Nguni Productions
Presenter: Devi Sankaree Govender

Tata Ma Chance II

According to Gidane, which runs our National Lottery, it’s impossible to cheat the system. Yet, in the Lottery Board’s annual report there is mention that the operator was fined R15-million for a “security breach”. What happened? Carte Blanche finds out who took a chance.

Producer: Susan Puren
Presenter: Bongani Bingwa
Journalists: Susan Comrie & Leila Dougan

Ying Shan

She’s been playing Tchaikovsky and Mozart since she was old enough to reach the piano keys and has won countless awards for her musical ability. But what makes eight-year-old Ying Shan even more remarkable is that she was born blind? Carte Blanche listens in.

Producer: Liz Fish
Presenter: Chantal Rutter

Re-the Lotto story - maybe it was one of our weather presenters?? Like in the movie Lucky Numbers, also a true story.
