Coming up on Carte Blanche this Sunday (9 August 2009):

Dora Nginza

Three years ago Carte Blnache covered a story at Dora Nginza Hospital in Port Elizabeth after a series of mishaps that led to patients successfully suing the Eastern Cape Health Department.

The show was recently given access to the hospital to see if things had improved. The number of court cases initiated in the past three years suggests not.

Presenter: Bongani Bingwa
Producer: Health-e News Service
Journalist: Xoli Matomela

Boy Alex

In last year's documentary entitled “A Boy Named Alex”, Carte Blanche was introduced to teenager Alex Stobbs. A musical genius, he was also battling terminal cystic fibrosis, which attacks the lungs.

The show caught up with a much weaker, but equally determined Alex earlier this year, as he was about to conduct Bach’s epic, the St Matthew Passion.

Presenter: Bongani Bingwa
Producer: Adri Kotze & Amalia Christoforou

Roxanne Hillier

To pay tribute to Women’s Day Carte Blanche tells the story of Roxanne Hillier, a South African imprisoned in the United Arab Emirates for allegedly having sex with her boss, who was later acquitted.

The show catches up with Roxanne back home to find out exactly what the law stipulates for foreign women working in parts of the Middle East.

Presenter: Derek Watts & Devi Sankaree Govender
Producer: Xoli Matomela
Journalists: Leila Dougan & Susan Comrie

Desert Runner

Running just one kilometre on soft sand is bad enough, imagine 250km over six days in the desert. But it’s no sweat for appropriately named Ryan Sandes, who gets his kicks from running ultra-marathons in places like the Sahara.

From complete obscurity, he became only the second person ever to win two desert races. Did he stop there? Carte Blanche finds out.

Presenter: Bonita Gorrie-Nuttall
Producer: Carol Albertyn Christie

Carte Blanche is on M-Net on Sundays at 19h00.
