Noupoort II

It’s said that “tough love” is the best way to deal with drug addicts, but just how tough do rehab centres have to get to achieve their goals? The boot camp style of the Noupoort Christian Care Centre has been in the news before - after allegations of abuse. Tonight patients alledge assault and torture once again.

Presenter: Bongani Bingwa
Producer: Michael Duffet
Journalist: Amalia Christoforou

Price Probe

Times are tough, and as households struggle to make ends meet, our four big retailers promise consumers massive savings and the best possible prices. But how true is this? What kind of negotiating goes on between the supplier and the retailer? And do consumers end up paying more than they should?

Carte Blanche goes shopping.

Presenter: Bongani Bingwa
Producer: Bernadette Cook
Journalist: Wynand Grobler

Ashes & Snow

Canadian Gregory Colbert is one of the most popular artists of modern times, sometimes attracting millions of people to a single exhibition. He says the aim of his unique multi-media installations, that have humans interacting with wild animals, is to make the hair stand up on the back of our necks. And he may be heading to South Africa in 2010 to do just that.

Presenter: John Webb & Bongani Bingwa
Producer: Victoria Cullinan

Carte Blanche is on M-Net on Sundays at 19h00.

I was in Noupoort for about 4months and all the allegations that have been said are true...i hate that place its like hell on earth if a parent hates their child they must send them there...a lot of good comes out but allot more bad stuff happens in that place...ex drug addicts are the staff members there and there are no qualified medical personnel...like Paul Ferreira would say, drug addicts are manipulative lairs, that's his way so saying that he also is lying....hes been there for 3 years now and he also was a manipulative lair, Noupoort is nothing what he says it is. i may not have been there for long, but I've been there for long enough and if the media isn't gonna close that place down me and all the other residents that have been afflicted to the violence will!

I made the mistake of going to Noupoort for treatment due to cocaine addiction. I had no idea what I was getting myself in to. The place is 90% run by addicts that has been clean from substance for no longer than 3 and 12 months. Lots of them is hard core criminals with violent histories and it is a good thing that there is a rehabilitation facility for them but the truth is that most of them are there to avoid jail sentence and not for rehabilitation. In my opinion parents that send there children there for smoking weed or alcohol is making a big mistake because they are going to learn the wrong things from the wrong people. I met people there that went for dagga the 1st time and for heroin the second time round. This "rehab" is for those people with no other choice but Noupoort or jail and believe me you do not want your kid exposed to these elements. All the allegations that was made in the past and made public by the media is true I have seen it myself and in my opinion it is only a matter of time before someone else dies at this facility. Then for the staff, the only thing that I can say is that in the land of the blind the one eyed is king. It seems that no one has any qualifications and I would suggest that you ask for proof of credentials before you go for any type of treatment at any facility. When I decided to leave Noupoort and seek real treatment for my addiction I was told that I would be thrown in to there C I (correctional intervention) facility. I ended up staying for 4 months before I was able to ran to the police station where I got assistance in leaving and getting my property back. Today I am clean of any substance not because of Noupoort but because I got treated by competent, qualified professional individuals who cares.
