Claire
Meredith tells Nathan about Claire, and points out that it wouldn’t be good of his election prospects if news of an illegitimate child got out. Nathan offers to pay her $100,000 for her silence.
HRG brings Sandra home and tells Claire that she had been to an appointment with a neurologist to help her with her recent headaches. Claire asks if he informed the neurologist of the memory loss, and HRG says that he’s handling it.
In the evening, HRG tells Claire that he found the fake tickets she had printed and that she’s now grounded. Claire reacts by throwing out the traditional adopted child’s “you’re not my real father” cry, to which HRG responds by saying that he’s as close as she has.
Claire phones Meredith to ask about her father. Meredith says that he’ll be flying down from New York, but when Claire says that she wants to meet him, is very cagey about it.
Nathan tells his mother about Meredith’s call, and that he’s thinking of taking a trip to Texas. She tells him it’s bad idea to anything of the sort so close to the election.
Claire visits Meredith who tells her that her father doesn’t want to meet her and is only prepared to send money. Meredith says that she’s willing to give Claire half of the $50,000 that she’ll be getting.
She also tells Claire that she’ll be heading to Mexico soon, so they won’t be able to see each other, something which further confirms that she’s not really interested in Claire. As Claire leaves, Meredith takes a photo of her.
After Claire has left, Nathan arrives and Meredith tells him that he’s just missed Claire. However, Claire is sitting outside the window listening to the conversation.
Meredith shows him the picture she had just taken. Now, Nathan saw some of Isaac’s paintings, but did he see the ones of Claire and if he did, did he remember them well enough to be able recognise her? It doesn’t appear so, but there’s no way of being absolutely certain from what we saw.
Nathan reveals that he has no interest in actually meeting Claire, and gives Meredith the money. He gets into his car drives off (well, is actually driven off by someone else).
As he’s driving away Claire picks up a rock and throws it at the car. It hits the rear window, cracking the glass. Claire runs away and Nathan doesn’t see her, so he continues on his way.
Claire arrives home to find Mr Muggles barking at her mother. Her mother claims that she doesn’t have a dog and also that she doesn’t know who Claire is.
Hiro and Ando
Hiro and Ando arrive in Las Vegas and start discussing their mission to steal the sword. Hiro says that a hero must always have hope, and Ando replies that while Hiro is figuring out how to get into Linderman’s office, he will look for hope.
The two of them then come across a dancer who is sitting crying. Ando introduces the two of them, and she replies that her name is Hope.
Hope tells Ando and Hiro that her boyfriend hit her and that she has walked out on him, but left her bag behind in his hotel room. Ando volunteers his and Hiro’s services to retrieve the bag.
Hiro isn’t happy about this, and the two of them argue in Japanese. During the conversation Ando mentions Linderman and Hope, recognizing the name, says that she knows people who know Linderman and that if they get the bag she will introduce them.
Ando dresses up as one of the hotel staff and delivers a room service cart to Hope’s boyfriend’s room. Ando leaves, and the boyfriend takes a shower.
While the boyfriend is busy in the shower, Hiro climbs out from underneath the cart where he had been hidden by its cloth. He lets Ando into the room and the two of them begin searching for the bag.
Hiro opens a closet and, seeing a gun, tells Ando that they should leave. Ando pretends to go along with this, but ends up locking Hiro outside while he continues to search.
Hiro returns to Hope and overhears her speaking on the phone during which she makes it clear that she’s up to something and that the story she told them wasn’t true. Hope notices Hiro and when he confronts her she punches him, knocking him out.
Ando returns after a while, having had to hide under the bed. He gives the bag to Hope and asks where Hiro is.
She says that she took him to meet someone who knows Linderman and that Hiro said he didn’t need Ando anymore. When Ando gets suspicious, Hope kisses him.
Meanwhile, Hiro is locked inside a storage room. He throws himself against the door but is unable to break it open.
The door is opened however, by a man with a gun. It’s the man Hope claimed was her boyfriend, and he identifies himself as a member of the Nevada Gaming Commission. Hiro gives the Star Trek Vulcan hand sign and says that he comes in peace.
Mohinder and Sylar
Mohinder tries to contact numerous people on the list but has little success. Eventually someone does return his call, a man by the name of Zane Taylor.
Zane waits nervously at his home. Someone rings the bell and he goes to answer it, and finds Sylar standing at the door.
He asks Sylar if he’s Doctor Suresh and Sylar agrees. For some reason, the fact that Sylar neither looks nor sounds like someone whose name is Mohinder Suresh doesn’t cross Zane’s mind. Zane offers to demonstrate his ability to Sylar, and retrieves a pot from the kitchen, which he places on the floor in order to do something with it that we don’t see.
Mohinder arrives and is greeted by Sylar who is now wearing Zane’s T-shirt, presumably having decided that it’s not enough just to take his brain. Sylar puts on the kettle to make some tea and then offers to show Mohinder his ability.
Well it’s actually Zane’s ability that he demonstrates, which appears to be the ability to melt metal objects. After discussing it for a while, Mohinder asks Sylar for a DNA sample.
Sylar agrees, and Mohinder hands him a cheek swab. At that moment the kettle boils, something which I don’t think is a coincidence.
Sylar goes to the kitchen where Zane’s body is, swabs Zane’s cheek and then gives the swab to Mohinder. While they’re drinking tea, Sylar offers to help Mohinder contact the other people on the list.
Matt and Jessica
Matt has started a new job as a bodyguard, and his first job is to protect Aron Malsky, Linderman’s lawyer. He meets Malsky at the airport and drives him to a meeting.
Jessica covers up the mark on her shoulder and after DL and Micah leave, opens a FedEx package which has a plane ticket in it. She speaks to someone on the phone and says that if Linderman wants someone dead for stealing Linderman’s money, it will happen. Also in the package is a photograph of Malsky.
The purpose of Malsky’s is to buy some diamonds, and while he’s examining them, the dealer thinks about Linderman’s “guy” and the fact that Malsky won’t get out alive. Matt of course hears this, and urges Malsky to leave. Malsky dumps money from his briefcase onto the table, takes the diamonds and then leaves with Matt.
Matt hears Jessica’s thoughts as she takes the lift and so he and Malsky take the stairs. She follows them, and some point Niki and Jessica have a conversation which Matt overhears, leading him to believe that there are two women after them. Despite Malsky’s protest’s, Matt phones the police, informing them of the situation.
It appeared as though Matt was hearing their voices and not their thoughts, which suggests that Niki and Jessica can separate. All of which leaves us no clearer as to the exact nature of Niki’s ability.
Matt manages to sneak up behind Jessica and handcuff her to a railing. When he asks her where Niki is, she replies that Niki is probably killing Malsky at that moment, and so Matt takes off, leaving her there.
Matt finds Malsky by hearing his thoughts. However, Jessica is right behind him, having broken out of the cuffs just like we all expected her to. She picks up Matt and throws him through a window, where he lands on top of a beam holding up a sign on the side of the building.
Matt makes his way back inside, by which time Jessica has left and Malsky’s body is lying on the ground, his head next to his feet. As Matt stands over the body the police arrive.
Matt gives his story to the detective, who reveals that the diamonds are missing. Matt realises that the thoughts of Malsky’s that he heard were actually the hiding place of the diamonds.
He finds the diamonds and is about to hand them over when he overhears the detectives thoughts stating that Matt is a joke who couldn’t even get being a rent-a-cop right. Matt decides to leave without revealing that he has the diamonds.
Back in Las Vegas, Niki speaks on the phone while she opens another package. The package has a photo of her next target, which is Nathan.
