DL, Niki/Jessica and Micah

After waiting an entire episode to find out whether Jessica shoots DL, we finally see that she does, hitting him in the shoulder. DL falls to the ground while Jessica continues to shoot, and another shot hits him in the head.

Or it would have done if he didn’t have the immateriality thing going on, as the bullet passes through his head. I suppose that must have been a reflex action, as there’s no way he could have been aware of the bullet in time for it to be a conscious decision.

Jessica walks across the road to DL’s car, but by the time she’s got there DL and Micah have made their escape. The two of them make their way into a forested area, and after leaving DL’s jacket behind to try and throw off their attacker the come across an abandoned shack. DL phases his hand through the door in order to unlock it from the inside.

Jessica comes across DL’s jacket, which has his blood on it, and at that point Niki emerges. Jessica and Niki have a conversation in which Jessica says that Niki is no longer strong enough to tell her what to do. I’m not sure if this means that Niki has actually been aware of Jessica for a lot longer than we’ve been made to think or whether it’s just Niki trying to maintain control over her body.

The two of them hear Micah calling, and Jessica sets off after him. As she enters the shack, DL hits her in the stomach with a shovel.

The two of them become involved in a struggle outside during which Jessica sends Micah flying after he tries to intervene. Seeing Micah in pain, Niki takes over again.

The three of them make their way back, and Niki says that she can’t be trusted. Micah falls to the ground in pain, and DL turns to check on him. When he looks back, Niki has approached a police officer and asked him to arrest her for murder.

Mohinder

Mohinder returns to his apartment in New York to find a note from Eden saying that she knew he’d be back. He has previously faxed the list of names from his father’s computer to the FBI as the next time we see him is on the phone to them.

They aren’t interested in helping him, which means that whoever he sent the list of names to can’t be aware of Audrey’s Sylar investigation, unless they’re just not willing to deal with Mohinder without knowing more about him. After hanging up, he walks over to his map holding a Post-It with Isaac’s name written on it.

Everyone else

Claire and HRG arrive at home following the attack at the high school at her subsequent revelation about her power (which occurs off-screen). He tells her that he already knew about it and that no one else can know.

HRG asks Claire who else knows and she tells him that Zach and Lyle do. He tells her to destroy the tapes that Zach has made and that he’ll speak to Lyle.

Peter sits in a holding cell (which has a glass door – is this normal?) and Nathan arrives. He tells Peter he’s not meant to be a hero and he needs to accept that not everyone can be a fighter.

Peter turns away, but when he looks back Sylar is sitting there instead of Nathan, and he asks Peter how he can stop what’s coming when he knows nothing of power. Peter then wakes up to find (as is expected) no one else in the cell with him.

HRG visits Sylar who is being held in a cell at HRG’s workplace. They both succeed in making the other angry, HRG by calling Sylar “Gabriel”, and Sylar by saying that as soon as he gets out he’s going to take Claire’s ability.

HRG leaves and then speaks on the phone to someone who appears to be his superior and who has told him to keep Sylar alive. Eden offers to make Sylar kill himself, but HRG brushes her off.

Back at the police station, Audrey and Matt interview Peter. Matt tries to read Peter’s mind, with the result that Peter borrows Matt’s power and is able to read the others’ minds. In the ensuing spoken/unspoken conversation, it is revealed that Claire was the cheerleader Sylar was after, and Audrey and Matt decide to look for Claire.

Back at the rehab centre for junkie super-heroes, Eden visits Isaac who has cleaned up and is sketching again, although he says that he hasn’t drawn any pictures of the future. She tells him that they were able to change the future and save the cheerleader.

Eden also tells him that she’s leaving but there’s still a way for him to stop the bomb in New York. She gives him a cellphone and a security card and then leaves, leaving Isaac looking at the painting of Hiro and Ando at Union Wells High School.

At the High School, Hiro and Ando have a discussion over Hiro’s inability to save the cheerleader. They have a brief debate over whether the message meant “Save the cheerleader then save the world” or “If you save the cheerleader then you will save the world”. Ando opts for the former while Hiro the latter.

Despite Hiro’s pessimism, he decides that they should continue and find Peter, Isaac and the bomb. As soon as he’s said this, his cellphone rings and it’s Isaac.

Back at the police station, Audrey is question Claire, with HRG present. Matt is standing outside the interrogation room, trying to read the Bennets’ minds but not succeeding.

Eventually, Audrey lets them go and Matt tells her that there was an absence of “sound”, and he’d experienced the same thing at the bar before he lost a day. To no one’s surprise, it’s revealed to us (but not to Matt and Audrey) that the Haitian is lurking around the corner.

HRG and Claire visit Peter in his cell, and Claire asks HRG to wait outside. Peter and Claire talk for a while, and he explains that he doesn’t know what she has to do with saving the world, and that the healing thing is new for him – he had no idea that he was going to survive the fall with Sylar.

Later on, Claire meets with Zach who has brought the tapes with him. She stamps on the tapes a few times, thereby destroying them.

Isaac meets Hiro and Ando at the Burnt Toast Diner, and they show him the comic from the future as evidence of Hiro’s powers. Hiro also tells him about seeing the bomb and Isaac’s brain removal.

Isaac tells them that Sylar has been caught and then realizes that he has painted a picture of Hiro and Charlie. In other words, he can still paint the future without drugs.

Claire returns home to find Lyle there. She asks Lyle if HRG had spoken to him about her ability, and he has no idea what she’s talking about. In addition, he can’t remember how he got home, which suggests that he’s had a recent encounter with someone from Haiti.

Meanwhile, Matt and Audrey are staking out HRG’s workplace. She has a stray thought that he’s cute, which he hears, and the ensuing conversation turns into one about Matt’s marriage, with Audrey encouraging him to try and make it work.

HRG and the Haitian appear, and Matt tries to hear their thoughts. His efforts result in him experiencing a Psychic Nosebleed, but he does pick out the word “Sylar”.

Claire meets Zach again, and he asks her why she called him seeing that they haven’t spoken since sixth grade. Claire realizes that someone has got to him as well and leaves.

Claire goes home and phones HRG, asking if he still remembers everything. He tells her that everything’s going to be OK, but when she hangs up someone grabs her from behind.

It’s the Haitian, and he reveals that he can speak by telling Claire that he had been sent to make her forget just like he had made Lyle and Zach forget just like he had made Claire’s mother forget many times in the past (which probably explains why she is like she is).

He also tells her that it’s important that she remember, which of course raises all questions. Why is it so important that she remember everything, and just what is the Haitian up to?

Isaacs paints a picture for Hiro and Ando of Hiro holding a sword while seemingly fighting a dinosaur. Unless the show is going to move into evil mad scientist territory (which I think unlikely) I have absolutely no theories as to how that painting fits into things.

Eden phones Mohinder, and tells him that she sorry for lying to him. She’ll explain everything but first she needs to put things right by killing the man who murdered Chandra.

That man is Sylar, and she visits him in his cell. She tells him that she’s going to put the gun in the slot and then he’s going to take it and blow his brains out.

She’s using her power here, so if she had put the gun in the slot then Sylar may well have killed himself. Instead, he pulls her towards himself, through the glass window that’s separating them.

This means that there probably isn’t any artificial suppression of powers and that the only reason that Sylar didn’t attack HRG earlier was that the Haitian was also close by. There is the possibility that it’s actually HRG who has the ability to neutralize powers, but there’s insufficient evidence of that, so at this point I’m still leaning towards it being the Haitian’s doing.

Eden raises the gun, points it at herself and then pulls the trigger. My initial thought was that it was Sylar’s doing, in a similar manner to the way he tried to kill Audrey.

But after thinking about, it was definitely Eden’s decision to kill herself. She would have realized that she was dead as soon as Sylar was free, and so she shot herself in order to prevent him from gaining her power. He definitely wouldn’t have wanted to damage her brain, so if he had killed her it would have been by slicing her head open to get at it.

The other prisoner, Peter, is finally released when Nathan turns up at the police station (it’s for real this time). As they walk outside, Peter is coughing quite badly.

His coughing has been going on for a while, as he was coughing during his conversation with Claire. So whatever it is, it’s not something that can be healed by her power.

Peter collapses, and has another vision. In this vision he’s standing in the middle of a road, surrounded by cars that have stopped and been abandoned.

He sees all the other main characters, who are keeping their distance from him. Peter looks down at himself and sees that he’s glowing, before exploding.

Obviously the implication here is that Peter is the one who causes the explosion. But I’m not convinced that’s the case.

For starters, Peter’s visions haven’t been completely accurate. For example we saw him talking to Simone’s father and then flying away, which never happened.

What Peter appears to have is a heightened empathy, which would explain how he is able to borrow people’s powers. His empathy would also explain his dreams in that he’s making some sort of connection with someone else, and the dreams feature some aspects that are real, but also some that aren’t.

So this could mean that his vision of himself exploding is actually of someone else exploding. In an earlier episode we met someone (Ted) who could give off high levels of radiation, so it’s not a huge leap to think that he could be responsible for a nuclear explosion.

Then there’s always the possibility that it’s Sylar, who will have picked up Ted’s ability by the predicted date of the explosion. But even if it’s not either of them, I don’t think it will turn out to be Peter.

Heee...that brings up the funny image of Haiti having an international reputation for being a country full of mind-wipers.  :)

Great recap!

EXcellent Cit, thanks for the recap.

You giving me hope that Peter might live which is a good thing, I'm hoping it turns out to be that some parts of his dreams are real and others aren't, off course being the fact that he's not the exploding guy. Good theory about the radiation guy we met earlier, doubt it will be Sylar though!
