Heroes Episode 4 - Collision

Claire

The previous episode ended with Claire waking up to find herself lying in the morgue with her chest cut open. The coroner hadn’t got as far as removing her internal organs, which is a pity, as it would have been interesting to see what would happen. If Claire had had to regrow them, then it would mean that she would have had two of everything, which would certainly give a new meaning to “I Left My Heart In San Francisco”.

But instead, the coroner was (conveniently) absent at the time Claire woke up, and so she was able to make her escape. She tried to continue as if nothing had happened, but when another girl told her that a similar thing had happened to her (the rape obviously, not the dying part), she decided to teach the quarterback a lesson.

The lesson involved her driving his car, with him in the passenger seat, at top speed into a wall. We know that she’s going to be all right, but to find out what happened to him you’ll have to read the comic.

I’m a bit surprised that that was put in the comic rather than in the show, as it appears to be a key plot element rather than less important background information. However, maybe we’ll still get to see it just without her internal monologue, which would then be the point of the comic.

It’s not clear how much Claire’s father knows about her at the moment. He knows something happened the night of the bonfire, but whether he suspects it was anything beyond the usual antics of unsupervised oversexed teenagers is uncertain.

Matt

What is certain about Claire’s father (aka HRG) is that he’s working with the man who Matt saw in the bar before collapsing (the Haitian). This guy hasn’t said anything yet, but considering that the actor has been in seven Emmanuelle movies, I don’t think delivering lines dramatically is his forte.

Instead, his character seems to have some sort of mental abilities which are able to counteract those of Matt. This was revealed when Matt tried to read the thoughts of HRG while strapped to a bed and hooked up to machines which were presumably recording his brain activity. Fortunately Sylar hasn’t got to Matt yet, otherwise he might not have had a brain left.

And that was pretty much Matt’s part in this episode – lie on the bed, talk to HRG and fail to read any of his thoughts, except for “Claire”. Matt’s screen time ended with the Emmanuelle guy about to do something to him.

Niki

HRG didn’t stop there. He was also involved with Niki and Nathan, but only once they had become quite involved themselves.

It turns out that Linderman, who Niki owes money to, is backing Nathan’s campaign and wanted her to hook up with Nathan as part of a honey trap in order to keep Nathan in line. She went along with it and met Nathan by “accidentally” bumping into him and ruining her Celine Dion ticket with her drink. Personally, I think that was probably the best thing to do with a Celine Dion ticket.

The two of them ended up in Nathan’s hotel room, where she decided that it wasn't right for her to sleep with him (it could have had something to do with him being married with kids, although that clearly wasn't an issue for him). Upon leaving his room, she encountered one of Linderman’s henchmen who threatened Micah if she didn’t go through with it.

Unfortunately for him, Niki’s mirror personality had taken her over by then, and he wound up having his ass well and truly kicked. In addition to being more than a little aggressive, the mirror Niki also had no qualms about shagging Nathan, and so returned to his room where they got down to business.

Once they had finished “sleeping” together and were actually asleep, HRG and the Haitian turned up. I guess it was business as usual for the latter, as he’s certainly used to watching people have sex. It all ended with HRG telling him to “Just take the one”.

Peter and Mohinder

The Petrelli brothers certainly are slick operators. Not only did we Nathan and Niki get it on, we also saw Peter in bed with Simone at the start.

While Peter was busy waking up alongside Simone, Mohinder decided to confront Nathan about his ability and warn him that his life was in danger (as a result of seeing him on Sylar’s map). Quite how he expected to do so without coming across like a nutjob I don’t know, but it didn’t work.

Nathan believed that Peter was linked to this somehow and offered him money to disappear for a while. Peter refused, but instead went looking for Mohinder (more correctly Chandra, but Mohinder’s a better conversationalist).

Peter explained to Mohinder that he believes what we’ve theorised about – that he can mimic other people’s abilities. In an attempt to try and prove it, he took Mohinder to see Isaac, since Nathan (the only other person Peter knows has a special power) was out of town.

Isaac didn’t answer the door as he was too busy shooting up/painting the future. Including a picture of Claire being chased by someone or something – doesn’t this girl get any breaks (apart from broken limbs of course)?

On the way back from Isaac’s, Peter encountered someone. But who it was will have to wait until we’ve checked in on…

Hiro and Ando

Hiro and Ando arrived in Las Vegas, where they started using Hiro’s ability in order to win at a casino. Let’s be honest – I think most of us would probably end up doing something similar.

However, I think most of us wouldn’t have been quite so clumsy. One of their schemes involved swapping Ando’s poker hand with that of another player, which he noticed (frankly, he couldn’t miss it) and then came after the two of them.

Ando tried to talk their way out of it, claiming that Hiro had a great power. The response to this was Hiro being knocked out with a single punch.

But we know that Hiro’s OK. And that’s because of the “Hiro moment” that those who have already seen the episode have been promising us.

While on the train back from Isaac’s, Mohinder suddenly froze mid-conversation, along with everyone else on board, except for Peter. Clearly he was caught up in someone else’s power, but whose?

As it turns out, it was Hiro’s. But not the Hiro who we know – this one has got contacts (or had corrective surgery), learnt to speak English and has started wearing a sword.

This Hiro is from the future, with a message for Peter. What the message is, we’ll have to wait until next week to find out.
