A new petition calls for Rick Ross to be dropped from his endorsement deal with Reebok. This comes after his controversial lyrics on his prodigee's, Rocko's 'U.O.N.E.O'. On the track Rick Ross raps: "I die over these Reeboks, you ain't even know it/ Put molly in her champagne, she ain't even know it/ I took her home and enjoyed that, she ain't even know." Earlier this week these words sparked an online outrage among women's groups.
The petition says: "By holding him up as something to aspire to, Reebok is sending the message that raping a woman is cool - and that's a dangerous message to send to the boys and young men Reebok markets to." Rozay signed his endorsement deal with Reebok Classics in March of last year. Women's rights organisation Ultra Violet launched the petition on Thursday, and received 25 000 signatures in just 2 hours. By Friday morning the petition received 51 000 signatures.
On the same day as the launch of the the petition Rick Ross responded to earlier petitions and protests. "It was a misunderstanding with a lyric, a misinterpretation where the term rape wasn't used. I would never use the term rape in my records", he said.
It care for an artist to be dropped due his/her lyrical content.
