Pete is an American travel writer reporting on the booming tourist industry in the Northern Territory. While taking a river cruise, he meets a series of people, including Kate, a local tour guide, whom he feels attracted to.

When their boat is rammed by something down below, they are stranded on a tiny island and slowly begin to realise that they are being stalked by a giant saltwater crocodile. It is the beginning of a struggle for their survival.

Along with the help of his mistress Peaches, Malcolm plots his own kidnapping, in order to secure a fictitious ransom so extremely high that once paid, the public will think he's broke and unable to meet his wife's financial demands. But unbeknownst to Malcolm, he's not the only one with a kidnapping plan.

When the place is raided by the police, Bob saves the life of Roger, the detective. We soon realise the two men are oddly united by a special bond stretching back years.

While Jimmy is in prison, his cousin Ronny causes the death of Jimmy's wife. Jimmy organises a deal with the police which sets Ronny up and gets him murdered by Little Junior.

When Jimmy is released from prison he is forced to work as an informer for the police. But Little Junior finds out and Jimmy and his new wife's lives are endangered...
