Has been or Celeb?

You know I have been seeing some uhmm konje what you call them “has beens” appearing everywhere and when I see these people I always ask myself what does shim do now and the answer that comes to mind is always “oh shim USED to be…..”

Indicating there is nothing they are currently doing now to be in the spotlight but they are constantly where the spotlight is at wanting to shine even though there’s g nothing that makes them shine now. We see them in TV shows like Selimathunzi, RGB, Mzansi Insider, Headline etc talking in front of the camera about what ever.

Some always promise an album that is coming up soon or saying there’s something big they’re working on that people should look out for, like duh can you be creative we’ve heard that lie before.

Some people like to call these people “has beens”. Well maybe they are not chasing the fame they are actually interesting aketsi. Here are some “has beens” that I have been seeing all over media and wondering what they are doing now.

Claire Mawisa is such a beautiful lady and many will agree with me. I don’t know where she was hiding all this time before twiiter. I got to see that she’s still around when I joined twitter and saw people tweeting her and I was like oh Claire the ex-simunye presenter usekhona!!! Then I followed sheim.

The lady is very opinioned she does speak her mind on twitter and tells her followers where to get off when they irritate her. There are those who like her there and those who don’t, like any other celeb on twitter. I recently saw her on RGB talking about twitter and being labeled a “has been” lol.

I still don’t know what she does now after being Simunye presenter. The only thing that I know is that she was a Simunye presenter that has risen from the “has been” and thanks to twitter for giving her a platform to keep herself relevant because after she’s been interacting with industry people and her fans, lovers and "haters" (excuse moi for using this word lol) she became popular again.

We see her appearing in almost all the social events and appearing on celeb content shows. She even gets invited to TV shows. She was invited on Late Night with Kgomotso last year, on Craze-e’s Sistahood and Yo-TV’s Wildroom. Dunno for what she always talks about being a Simunye presenter and a model.

I never hear what her current entertainment job or celeb status is. I really think twitter played a role in her sudden shine again. Now we would love to see her doing something recognizable again in entertainment.

I have seen many people asking why she doesn’t go back to TV coz she’s beautiful and we know beauty is one of the things that lands people on TV even if they are talentless but Claire is talented in her own right though.

Shim need to dye his eyebrows back to black I mean blond eye brows? Thats not sexy.

Koyo Bala is well… a member of the none existing group 3sum. Gosh, can they like admit that 3sum is no more (no pun). I mean the group flopped ages ago even before the third group member passed away (don’t mean to insensitive). So can they stop talking about this 3sum like it will ever come back? (no pun)

I like Koyo but I do feel like it’s about time shim wakes up and smell the coffee and stop being in denial and realize that 3sum is dead (no pun). It’s even worse now that his chomi and group mate Amstel is set to release an album. I wonder who will buy that.

Well Koyo is one of those people that I think should thank Selimathunzi, RGB, Mzansi Insider and Headline presenters and cameraman for showing shim on TV. I always notice shim side eying the camera when it’s next to him seeing that he wants to be asked something just to appear in that telly lol. It’s always funny.

Nice presenters like Zizo Beda always spot this sheim and give shim his 2 minutes of keeping fame. I recently saw him on Headline explaining the 3sum thing not splitting up whateva, whateva. He also appears in some magz social pages.

I don’t know what shim does now. I hope he is working at least as I don’t see shim being anyone’s back up dancer again, I mean imagine. I know that’s how they started as 3sum I think it should have ended there coz the singing thing just didn’t take them any far. I know they were nominated for a Metro FM award but still.

I think shim should ask Somgaga about how to stay relevant and away from the “has been” list as shim was slowly crawling there. Thanks to Dance Your Butt Off for coming to his rescue. I enjoyed his interview on My Top Ten when he was talking about him being down and out and rising from that.

Maybe she should be a model I think she looks good in this pic

Zama Ngcobo became SABC1 presenter after SABC1 did open auditions. uSisi was lucky enough to scoop the job as a Zulu presenter on the channel. She seemed like one presenter that was going to take the industry by storm when she also joined the popular SABC radio station, Ukhozi FM on their drive time show hosting it with Mr. Magic Linda Sibiya.

Dunno what happened, the SABC1 job ended then followed the Ukhozi job sheim. But Zama is still tryna keep her face out there. Not so long ago she was featured in Destiny magazine that had Bassie on the cover.

I was shocked like why she even deserves a page in a magazine especially a mag like Destiny. They did a feature about her fashion style and stuff.

I was surprised that she even gets a feature on Destiny nogal! Or is it because of her association with Bassie and we know Bassie is mos like friends with Editor in Chief of Destiny mag, Khanyi Dlomo somthang.

Zama also appears in these magz social pages and I recently saw her talking to Kuli on Headline can’t remember what she was saying as I was wondering what she’s up to now.

Konje were is her awards ceremony as she promised she will gooi a new awards ceremony, dunno what she said she’ll be honouring maybe SABC1’s former presenters and ambassadors, aketsi?

Still talking about ambassadors do you remember SABC1 holding auditions for people to be the channel’s ambassadors/presenters? People like Lalla (she’s the only one I remember) and others got the job and it only lasted no more than 6 months lol and SABC1 went all out for this and it was a big thang. I still wonder what happened. Anyway…

Mirriam Ngomani gosh I dunno what is Selimathunzi’s obsession with this girl. I don’t know whether she cooks nice food for them to keep coming back to her place. If it was a situation of a gal and guy one would swear they got him with korobela.

They always feature Mirriam even though she’s not famous now. Yeah I know Selimathunzi is not only about famous people but they show her as a “celeb”.

Yeah there was a time when she was famous for being a model and Prosper Mkwaiwa’s girlfriend but now why must we see this girl all the time especially on the same show?

They’ve been showing her even after her shine has long faded. Not so long ago they showed her graduating at some college and a few weeks ago doing whatever she was doing as I was not interested to watch.

Really now I think Selimathunzi should actually start choosing people they should visit. We know they the celebs invite Selimathunzi in their houses or whatever especially the flopping celebs.

All they want is staying relevant and Selimathunzi’s arms are always open *sigh*.

Khanyi Mbau Mthembu Crous tops this list I'll lose my breath if I start talking about her. So I won’t bother… but she's been lying low lately I wonder what scandal is she cooking.

So who do you think is also in a mission of keeping up the fame?

Abt KHANYI MBAU she has been relevant for the past years. Its only now that she has decided to lie low, to reinvent herself. You don't need to be on the screens everyday to stay relevant to the people. Its abt the fans how much do u ignite them and do they find you relevant or not. Most still find Ms Mbau relevant and they miss her so much...

Cheesa
14 Jun 2011 10:52

@wesbuw I think people find Mbau mostly interesting when she does her scandals, right now they dont care much about what she does like professionally. But if there might be another scandalous story about her in papers she'll be all relevant again..

She made me LoL when she appeared on Khumbelekhaya looking for her long time bestfriend. I mean really I just thought that was a pathetic. Everyone was like here's a "has been" tryna be relevant. I wonder how far they are with tracking down that friend.

15 Jun 2011 16:28

If I get the translation of Khanyi's baby name correctly, in Setswana, a "craving" would be Keletso""... What is wrong with the name? It is very common and means a yearning for something. Usually, the people that I know named their baby that name because they were yearning for a baby and God provided or fulfilled them with that "Keletso" of theirs... *puzzled*

VusiK
15 Jun 2011 16:33

@Tshd21 ... neither Khanyi nor Mandla are Setswana ...

Mersthang
15 Jun 2011 16:55

guush!

VusiK
15 Jun 2011 17:15

@Tshd21 ... Any name has meaning only within the language of the parent ... Keletso is not Khanukani ...

Khanukani means Lust, Greed, or Envy in Nguni Languages .. which is the language of the parents ...

If baby's name was Keletso ... it would mean something different other than Keletso ..

For instance m name is Vusi ... which for a Nguni .. has a special meaning .. and Any Zulu would undesirable why I am Vusi ...

VusiK
15 Jun 2011 17:39

@Tshd21 ...

Perhaps Setswana people do not give careful consideration to what names their children are given ...

However, Ngunis expect careful consideration to the names the children are given ... We will ask a person "What the hell were you thinking giving your child that name?"

My father would shrink inside at the Dikeledis, and the maswabis, & Goitsemangs we encountered through life ... and we would simply dismiss the naming of the child to cultural differences that were beyond our understanding ... We always assumed that dikeledis were named thus because they were born during death ...

But it is possible that setswana people do not give much thought to naming their children because you say "What does it matter" ... But truthfully ...Zulus and Ngunis are extremely careful regarding the naming of their children ... I am Nguni, and I can assure you that the name one gives a child is extremely thought through ... and communicates not only their identitiy, but also how the world perceives that person ...

BTW ... I am Vusi because I come after a long string of girls ... the family name was gone ... and I represent hope for the surname ... Hence the name Vusumuzi ... or revival / continuity of the family name ... and you will find most Zulu Vusumuzis follow girls in lineage ...

VusiK
15 Jun 2011 17:40

Culture is still important .. at least to those of us who still treasure or past, present and future ...

VusiK
15 Jun 2011 18:15

... Correction ... In naming a child ... Heritage is the single most important thing a parent can confer via their name ...

Tshd21
15 Jun 2011 18:42

Only the first explanation was necessary VusiK, the second, third and forth were totally unnecessary. I am not debating culture here, all I wanted was a simple explanation as to why the name was wrong because since I went with Cheesa's direct translation, I couldn't understand your point. Who are you to judge Khanyi and Mandla for naming their child Khanukani anyway? It is absolutely none of your business and they would also not even give a hoot about why your parents named you Vusi, or even bring culture into it.

VusiK
15 Jun 2011 19:22

@Tshd21 ... I am not judging them ... don't know them ..

don't care what other people name their children ...

Society is full of opinion ... Mine is just one ...

What Mandla and Khanyi name their child is their business ...

My opinion of that is purely my opinion ...

Of all my children ... i only named one ... and the name has a meaning ... to me, and his mother, and to him ... and it fits in context ...

it is no different with their child ... the name has meaning to him, her, and baby ... and its context is equally important to them three ...

Do I care ... No!!!

The only things I care about exist within my four walls and my yard ...

Whatever anyone outside of that environment thinks is irrelevant, unless that opinion is important or has impact on me ...

Life can be that simple, that dynamic, or none of the above ....

However, should any of my children introduce a girlfriend called Khanukani as his life interest ... the very first thing on my mind will be ... What kind of people does this child come from ... What kind of parents would name their child this name ... and that child would have an uphill battle convincing me that she came from the right environment for my son to be fraternizing with ... no matter how much he liked her ... I would be biased ... simply because it is an inappropriate name in my world ...

VusiK
15 Jun 2011 19:36

No different, I advise my children forthrightly ...

Avoid dating white and other nationalities because the injustice of mixing races is sometimes overwhelms ... I come from a family of strong willed indomitable Ngunis ...

we are neither Zulu nor Xhosa (A fringe nation) ... we are a fringe nation with an insanely strong sense of identity ... Zulus never conquered us ... Xhosas never conquered us .. so we are belligerent in essence ...

and in speaking with my children .. I simply say ... The pressures their children must be of such a nature as to avoid unnatural stresses ... and them choosing white or Indian or colored partners generally does injustice to my grandchildren ...

i know this first hand because my mother is half white, half Zimbabwean ... and the stresses I went through as a child rejected by my coloured, white and Zimbabwean relatives is nothing I wish my grandchildren to go through ...

racism & prejudiced is strong, and will continue to be strong ...

I prefer to recognize and embrace the monster as real rather than bitch about it ...

trust me when I say ... There is everything to a name... more than title ... one's name is one's identity and heritage ...

Simply saying "So What" is OK, but it always has consequence ...

Personally, I want my children to end up with people they are in completely and absolutely love with ... and 98%+ commonality is extremely important .. In South Africa, i cannot see how cross cultural relationships survive ... and I admire them greatly when they do ... because I am aware of the stresses they survive in order to keep things together ...

in little Khanukani's case ... My opinon is that her parents have truly condemned her future with that name ... It is a name that will be greeted with great resistance by any self respecting family that some man some day will favor her ...
