The SAMAs

Well the South African Music Awards happened this past weekend at Montecasino in Johannesburg. Some of us watched them on TV like we always do. I must say those were the worst SAMAs I’ve ever watched.

I have been watching the SAMAs like every year but this year they were just poor quality. It was like I am watching the Metro FM awards, hayikabi. I mean we understand when it’s the Metro FM awards but the SAMAs! They just can’t look like a low budget event.

There was too much chaos as I was watching on the telly. People were moving around all over the place. It was so destracting. There was no order whatsoever. People were too close to the stage, hence we could see all their moving around. I think the venue didn’t do the show any justice.

I mean, not that there was no moving around of people in Sun City, but we, as viewers, wouldn’t see it because people were not too close to the stage. We would only see the moving around of people when the cameras showed the crowd.

The production was not on point too. There were a couple of glitches. We understand it’s a live show but since it’s the SAMAs we expect perfection. I really didn’t enjoy this year’s SAMAs. I couldn’t wait for them to end a thought I’ve never had before when watching the SAMAs. I was really disappointed sheim.

Phat Joe disappointed me too but he did tweet earlier that he was censored so he wasn't able say the things he had prepared to say during the show. So I kind of understand. I thought he was joking when I saw the tweet but it turned out to be true during the show.

The person who made us laugh was Somizi aka Somgaga - when he said Sis Ribs should wear the knee caps he was wearing when performing for when she is crawling on the floor. He even said Chomme should have been nominated for Best Urban Porn. He was really funny.

Then there was a guy called Milton who was supposed to present an International Award with Sis Ribs but Sis Ribs didn’t come up to the stage. So Milton said that he was supposed to present the award with Sis Ribs but she's not there, maybe Somizi did something to her. This was another highlight of the night - people couldn’t stop tweeting about this.

I liked these boys. They are called Locnville. I don't really know them but I just liked them. I think I have heard their song once or twice. They won Best New Comer and Best Selling album.

Can people who present the Best Selling album award know that there are no nominees for this award? Like really now, people every year keep making the same mistake.

Last year it was TKzee who said "the nominees for Best Selling award are" and this year it was Danny K. Don't they get told that there are no nominees for this award? I don't understand.

Amu aka The Principal won the Best Rap album award. He was very happy shem. He did say on twitter that he must win this award or else there's gonna be sh!t. So could this mean he bullied his way to get this award? mhmmm... There's his wife on stage too.

On performances, I enjoyed Professa’s performance. Ms Mbau perfomrmed with Professa and crew. That girl can do whatever to be in the spotlight. I liked Loyiso’s performance too. Uche, Ihashi elimhlophe and Vusi Mahlasela’s performance was the best for me. It was a good collaboration.

Zakes Bantwini disappointed me. I think him not taking an award added to his not-so-good performance. It was clear that the brother was disappointed. He didn’t perform as well as we know him.

He was just doing nje. I also felt like he should have won an award - maybe Best Male. I really thought he was going to take that one. I guess next time.

Congrats to the winners!!

So what did you think of the SAMAs?

excuse the quality of them pics as they were taken on tv lol

It was kinda boring really, yes Zakes Bantwini didn't do it for me either.  I like Professor's although it was short.

Pleasure AkaS, yes that is Professa's brother. All three of the guys who were going on stage are brothers, Professa, Character and Dj Mngani are brothers

I must say I liked Bonang's green dress. It was the best for me in all the outfits she had on.

Zizo was wearing a short number that I thought she was not comfortable in especially when she was on the yellow carpet with Minne.

I liked the Mazwai sisters. Both Thandiswa and Nomsa won awards.

Ms Mbau uyazifakisa groot!! She wanted to be on stage no matter what she was doing eish tha Khanyi!

I hear things were worse off behind the scenes.

VIP guests were not found on the guestlist, the sound at the venue was worse, VIPs were subjected to a cash bar and finger foods after surviving the SAMAs ceremony.

What was up with the outside stage with 5 people in the "crowd"?

Eish... the organizers really messed up this time round!

Heee I heard Gabi last night on Euphonik's show complaining about how t he media was treated at the SAMAs in facvt everyone.

She said the media was seated somewhere from from the stage. they had to watch the event on the big screens. And were they seated it was very cold there was no heater (lol I didnt know there should be heaters at the awards LOL) so they were cold.

She even said there was no food for them. They had to eat small portions of food.

When they had to interview the winners. They only got to interview 7 artists out of all the winners.

You know this explains why some people who had to come on stage to present awards didnt go up. Professa was also supposed to present an award but he didnt as well as sis Ribs. There was so much chaos man at these awards.

Its worse coz we expect the SAMAs to get better and better instead they become a disaster.

I just read Gabi's article in the NewAge. She says some of the VIPs had to buy tickets. Zulu boy was not invited even though he was nominated with Louis something that he features in her song.

In conclusion this years SAMAs were a mess!!

Qaqamba you say the SAMAs were super and then you say Zakes doesn't do it for you??! I dont understand...anyway its how you feel gal.

Ya the whole show was a complete disaster, catastrophe, rampage, mess, hapazard etc. Sometimes there was no mic on stage and had to wait for few hours before mic can be brought up....the distance winners had to walk to the stage eish was the longest...I liked Loyiso’s performance too. Uche, Ihashi elimhlophe and Vusi Mahlasela’s performance was the best for me. It was a good collaboration....Ya these were awesome loved them too

It was like I am watching the Metro FM awards, hayikabi. I mean we understand when it’s the Metro FM awards but the SAMAs! ...this is very true

Then there was a guy called Milton who was supposed to present an International Award...the dude was struggling to read on the autocue..actually almost everybody was struggling I guess the autocue was not so clear eish talk about shoe-string budget for such event

Somizi was really funny...I could not agree more ...@cheesa...according to Makisto Somgaga was offline for making fun of Ribs

Ms Mbau perfomrmed with Professa and crew. That girl can do what ever to be in the spotlight....I was laughing big time yoh...Khanyi heard you guys saying she is out so decided to stick on Professor...I think people should not have bothered to ask about her appearance...now she is happy that she is on people's lips again

... And Maki was so Hyped !!!

The papers are too ambiguous why it was a disaster ... somebody enlighten please ... not into showbiz ... Help ?!?
LMAO Vusi I understand why you're so lost you're not into these things. Eish konje where can we start. It was a complete disaster Vusi from the organizers to the change of venue. It was just a mess.

Sometimes there was no mic on stage and had to wait for few hours before mic can be brought up....the distance winners had to walk to the stage eish was the longest... True Lejazz the longest people that took to come to the stage were the Mazwai sisters. That long distance they had to walk from where they were sitting to the first the stage and pass through to go the second stage. I am sure it took a good 10 minutes.

Then the was the issue with the mics. Professa had to wait for like 3 minutes to get a mic so he can make his thank you speech, hayi that was just not on.

the dude was struggling to read on the autocue..actually almost everybody was struggling I guess the autocue was not so clear eish talk about shoe-string budget for such event True this Milton also took his time reading the autocue worse he was so nervous.

I think people should not have bothered to ask about her appearance...now she is happy that she is on people's lips again True she must be very happy that people are talking about her again. I hope it was just the first and last time she pull that stunt. She mustn't continue being Professa's side kick. He has enough already.

23 May 2011 15:58

Ntlewame2 Somgaga said when sis Ribs sing akazwakali. He cant hear her lyrics when she's singing because of that voice of hers. And she should wear the knee caps he was wearing when perfoming for when she does her crawling on the floor. So that she doesn't get bruised.

VusiK
23 May 2011 15:59

... Change of Venue is 100% disaster guarantee ...

Mics ... Yep ... Professor could have just bowed .... why wait to talk ... anyone with class would have just bowed, and left ... anyone spell EGO?!?

ten minutes ?!?  Wow .... sounds like if everything could have gone wrong .... IT DID !!!

Cheesa
23 May 2011 16:04

LMAO at bowing. So he should have done like ballet dancer!

23 May 2011 16:04

24 May 2011 16:29

Hi Yo'll
SAMA,SAMA wat can i say. First, the people moving up and down like amantwana baseCreche wer such a distruction for me watching on TV , just emagine hw bad it was for ppl who were sitting at the front. Secondly; I dont understand Y there had to b 2 stages ,coz the perfomances za outside went that great shem. Ddn't the guy who made Bonang's dresses say she had about 7 or 9 dresses, I think I only saw 4.What happened  to7? On the other had I liked Somizi's comments, i still laugh everythime I think about them(LOL). I think he should have hosted the event.

Cheesa
25 May 2011 12:24

@Y I also didnt get  the hype about the two stages thin. It just made the whole thing too much for me. There was nothing wow about it.

@leejazz
Vusi ke mozione so what is wrong with him wearing a ZCC Badge, come on he is proud ZCC member and there is nothing wrong with him wearing that badge.

Nna i actually felt sorry 4 Khanyi shame you can see that she is really trying to be popular again but its not working shame man.
