Glitz and Glamour were the names of the game as the majestic atmosphere of Mpumalanga burst with excitement and got polluted with the who’s who in the Media business right in the center of the Olympian Mbombela Staduim, Pips crawled out of their shells in numbers for the annual Metro FM Awards hosted by Tbo Touch and Zizo Beda. What a surprisingly enjoyable mess this show made; the first shock being the fact that Zizo’s outfits were right on the dot, initially spotting a long glittering cream joint to a short black shiny-number, I say the girl should stick to whoever dressed her last night. We are tired of her usual strikingly-shocking dress sense, however the girl brought an edgy approach to the show.

The event was scheduled to kickstart at 19:00 (well that was in accordance with the memo I received), but the schelebs came flocking in a little late. After some serious hurdle with some security guard I made my way to the Black Carpet, and spotted KB looking good in simple red apparel with some random black lines sugarcoated with a shoulder-feather.
Just as the surprise was still sinking in, then the stylish Uyanda Mbuli walks in and I snap her with Proverb who looked very excited, one could swear he was guaranteed an award, was he even nominated? Never the less, he would deliver a great performance later.
Chriselda Kananda came looking good and smiling to everyone, it wasn’t a hassle quest for a snap. She is a bundle happiness!
Kelly Khumalo shows up with man whom I was told is the best motivator in town, and her “recently re-appointed” manager Sarah, from Bonzai productions, apparently this relation is fresh from the oven, they only made peace last week; remember the whole debauchery in 2009 which led to the virgin signing with Prokelly or something like that? We wish them the best and cheers to the virgin making great music in the King of Sushi’s new label.
The boys from Generations showed up and girls couldn’t hold it in, I felt so invisible.
Khanyi Mbau also warmed up the carpet in a long navy number looking all dignified. I take everything I ever thought of her after her naked pics leaked, Khanyi was nice…it was alarming to see her flying solo on the black carpet, talking about “partnering”,
We then spotted Japhta Mamabolo with Samkelo Ndlovu who is rumored to be his “girlfriend”, TJA! That’s all I’m gonna say…
Our very own Pruluv came looking dashing in a purple shiny-joint with her sister and a friend, looking goooooooddddd! She had such a blast, i last saw her at the red-carpet! mmmmhhhhhhhh
Howza and Salamina came looking very happy as usual. There’s no thinking twice about Salamina’s beauty but girl needs to not to fall in the same Fashion-Victim hole as Zizo and Amstel etc. that dress is just too “Sunday afternoon”, moving on…
Chomee should fire the person who chose that black carpet dress for her, then the person should get deported after getting fired; Chomee please save the dress for church on Sundays. Save us the trauma!
Durban pips came in a crowd, you could swear a bus just puked them at the entrance, I only spotted 3 known faces out of the mass that came walking down, and they were loud too…again, this is my solemn cry to Virgin Active and Planet Fitness, please open more branches in Durban, I BEGGA I BEGGA I BEGGA!
Speedy came with an entourage looking ragged and tacky in some loui vuiton like outfit. He was buried deep in the crown I couldn’t even steal a snap, It’s with such happiness to announce that he didn’t have a towel with him.
Busi Lurayi showed up flaming and asking where her manager disappeared to, the girl is very nice and she spotted a hot black number which put her best packages forward.
Kelebogile Mabotja then followed a few minutes later in the company of Kwela Tebza who looked like they were going to deprive a crazy out-of-control wild fire, I have no idea who convinced them to put on that eye-gauging racing gear but whoever it is needs to be hung with a string!
The queen of the night Zahara flew in surrounded by bodyguards, it was even hard pulling her from that body of tight security, but I managed to sweet-call her into posing for TVSA, I must say this girl just looks good, she doesn’t really have to try hard and pull all the stops! She just “contains” it…
The show kickstarted with great performances and one show stopping performance was ushered after the other, the performers ranged from KB who wore some yellow tent-like outfit to Chomee who took always brings a new meaning to Sexy.
The Durban crew also performed filling the stage with strangers running helpless like headless chickens,
Somgaga followed later with his ever-so-electrifying moves and crew (Nigga didn’t look so frail this time - wonder where Madamme Gigi was), the very preggies Zonke’s voice filled the stadium with great amicability. Sindi Nene’s voice is good but the mic that wasn’t so well-connected messed up her performance.

Whoever put Zahara on that swing should be tortured with pins and needles for 3 hours! Yes! The girl looked terrified singing ‘Loliwe’ in the air and her vocals were affected – I wanted to slit my wrist with madness! It was only after she was brought to the ground doing ‘Lengoma’ that she sounded good. Girl brought fire to the ground!

All in all The Metros weren’t such a yawn, their biggest flops were the following:
- The sound guy falling asleep and letting us hear all the conversation from backstage, mostly the stage manager’s voice hitting panic stations
- Some of the Media, performers and resenters being refused entry to the After-party
- Sticking to "African time"!
- No goody-bags! Like seriously????
So, The Metros were bigger and better and hopefully next year they are even BIGGER – The Sama organizers can learn a thing or two from these guys! more pics to follow….
