This could probably be termed "laziness", but i thought.. why not just put the two articles in one? I'm wearing people's shoes here so Makisto and Sobza might both kill me for this laziness...Im really sorry.
This week’s episode of I Want To Sing Gospel saw Pastor
Benjamin Dube (
who could easily pass as TD Jakes’ adopted cousin.lol) and
Sechaba Padi grace the judging panel. Sechaba is that guy that sings all his songs in one tone. He doesn’t have any high pitches and low pitches, he sings that’s it. So it was not a surprise to hear him give almost the same comment for all 6 contestants.
Yha...after last night, the competition is down to 5. Apparently for this coming week there will be a wild card that will see the likes of Nqobile coming back to krazakraza for votes, still - the same game that was played in the previous season to bring Lungisani back. If this was not a show that aims to have people worship God, i swear i would right now be feeling the urge to use some alphabets. Anyway...
The theme for last night was
"Thoughts on MANHOOD”. I still can’t say this with a straight face. heheheh. After viewers have been complaining about bhut’Thabo’s tight pants, these people turn around and have a theme like that?? #shakinmyhead.
I mean, there are so many ways that you can title an episode that celebrates men and fathers. Why couldn’t they say it just like that... “CELEBRATING MEN IN GOSPEL”. Huh? Manhood?? Hawu, bathong!
I nearly said we forgive them, but I choose o practice radical Christianity on this point and tell them straight up that they messed up.
In any case...this is how everyone did to save themselves a seat in the Top5:
Mvuselelo came in to sing “Jo ke mohlolo” and he had his thoughts on the manhood that is Keke Phoofolo.
Lindelani said he needed to work on his technique., but he was happy that the brother was pushing himself. Bishop (as they referred to him) Benjamin said the guy’s facial expressions do not match with his words. He said one of the most important things for a gospel singer is to understand what you’re singing about. Sechaba said a performer needs to “wow” the audience and that’s what Mvuselelo did. And by the way, his fans call him Vuvu.
Nombulelo was next and with her thoughts on manhood she had Ps Solly Mahlangu in mind and she attempted to give a feminine rendition of one of the Pastor’s recent offerings,” Wa Hamba Nathi”
I find her voice soooo squeaky.
When she was done, Lindelani said she “stood her ground. I’m not too sure, myself, what that meant but yha, the girl stood her ground. Again, the Bishop made a comment about people knowing what they are saying. He said she needed to interpret a song when and as she sings it. According to the Bishop, poor girl looked sad singing a happy song. Sechaba again said a performer needs to “wow” the audience, but he said this girl yena was “wowed” by the audience instead.
Next in the line was
Samukelisiwe. She sang a song called “Ngobekezela”. Mina I didn’t quite hear whose manhood she had her mind on.
Lindelani said she failed to coordinate with the band. He says she was just singing her own thing while the band went the other way. The Bishop still went on about the word “interpretation”. He said Samukelisiwe’s interpretation was wrong, nje. Sechaba said she chose the wrong song.
Thabani chose to think of Jabu Hlongwani and sang a song called “Izethembiso”. I find this brother totally curvaceous. His voice is pretty good, though. He climbs those flat notes on the way to the high ones in such perfection, you can’t help but make some prophetic sounds (in tongues).
Lindelani told him to keep pushing himself, Sechaba was blown away and The Bishop got lost in the song.
Next it was
Malcolm. Word, oh Word! I am going to be very biased on this one coz I have liked Malcolm from the very beginning. He chose to think of Jonathan Butler and the song was “Love Never Fails”
He sings with such ease... he gets his voice from a place unknown, and he knows exactly when to go up and when to take it down. And we, his people, seem to be voting like crazy coz week in, week out, the brother occupies his seat in the top. He comes second only to Nhlakanipho when it comes to the votes. If 2008 repeats itself, he will most definitely find himself as Nqobile’s runner-up, then he will get a Joyous Celebration contract while Nqobile gets tossed to some other producer.
Malcolm is in his own league, people. He stressed the important of knowing thyself as a worshipper. He says one needs to know who God is to him, and have that personal reference. That didn’t go down very well with Lindelani, though. With a not-to-pleasant face, he said Malcolm needs to challenge himself, stop being comfortable sing some other style other than his own. The Bishop said he is totally amazing, he has got a small voice but is a powerhouse. Sechaba said he is really blessed.
Nhlakanipho is another one. I personally think he did himself a disservice this week. He chose to think of Sipho Makhabane with the song “If I get tired along the way”. I don’t know how Nhlakanipho sings. He likes standing still, then digging for this deep voice from way within himself, then he keep digging and digging...and the audience end up paying uninterrupted attention. If I didn’t know Opera very well, I’d say he sings like he had basic opera training.
The word “interpretation” came along again. Lindelani and Benjamin Dube both felt that the brother wasn’t connecting with the audience and though his song said God had never failed him, he looked like he had been defeated. All Sechaba said was “I felt something”.heheh
In the end Samkelisiwe was eliminated and the Top 5 are: Malcolm, Mvuselelo, Thabani Nhlakanipho, and Nombulelo, and that’s my order.
We’ll see them next week when the extrastrongs will be given a chance to fight back. I don’t know why these people do this. Why kanti do they deserve a chance to be voted for by the public, still. We’ve already voted them out mostaan? I know this is a religious show and God forgives, washes with the blood and all... but really... let’s be serious. You see, if there had been any serious talent that has been eliminated and needs to be given a second chance I’d understand. But everyone who have been eliminated deserved to go.
One last thing to the IWTSG team, when it comes to choosing themes and naming them, I would like to offer my services, FOR FREE! The manhood thing is just plain unforgivable.
