Welcome to TheTVObserver's special blog on Oprah's Best Life Series. Nothing shared on this show is NEW! – Oprah and her current team of professionals have shared their views and advice on all these key areas, for years on end. However, drilling it in on a ten day event may just be a way for them to get viewers to realize the importance of looking after one’s body and everything related to its functionality. Or a big old bore….for anyone who has paid attention throughout the years. Oprah Winfrey as a case study surely makes the series appear very human and not another D.I.Y show by the world’s greatest talker.

I will choose to over look the fact that the entire series is named after Bob Green and Oprah's new Diet over at thebestlife.com. Although the series is a great idea, I can't help but observe the fact that the diet is getting a worldwide endorsement which tops that show Oprah did on the launch of the best life diet product line.

Harpo Productions is buzzing with preparations towards next weeks major online event which I believe will draw a larger audience than A NEW EARTH’s online seminar. All you have to do is register, log on and interact with experts as they share their advice, you can even ask questions. They include Bob Greene, Dr. Oz, Elizabeth Lesser, Suze Orman, Dr. Laura Berman and more. This is designed for you to live your best life.

This got me thinking….have you ever spent a thought or a second, in wonder of how you could live your best life? Look am sure KFC, Nandos and Fried Fish & Chips all glistering with saturated oils not to forget those side road meat and PAP specials……, make all the hurt go away or the fun seem great…not to forget a double chocolate cream cake. If you are salivating at the thought of these medical situation described above masquerading as food, you really need to pay attention.

Have you thought about your best life without anyone telling you how you should do it? If four doctors treating Oprah can miss the fact that her condition might be a thyroid problem. Perhaps the biggest lesson for all, is that YOU need to pay close attention to what you and your body need,…I don’t mean the friend stuff…, In order to live your best life. As for the comment on having an advocate when going to see a doctor…I agree whole heartedly and if you can’t find a medical doctor as an advocate. You need to find those passionate…always asking a million questions and walking encyclopedia type friends, to interrogate your attending physician. Good luck.

Advice is great and often very important from professionals with a good track record but isn’t the point to listen and take what will help you live your life better? The emphasis being “your life”, we cannot live Oprah’s life and we may not all have her health issues even thou most will share some. The question is…. does the information shared by the experts on the best life series help you and I, to realize those little changes which mean a whole lot, for our lives? Or do you need to end up at your local intensive care unit before you realize that you need to either change your health or lifestyle, to improve the quality of your life?

NOTE: People do not change. They substitute a lifestyle with another (better or worse) but remain the same individual within their changed lifestyle. So the new lifestyle may get you to say things like “Oh… he/she has changed”. Personal commitment forms a big part of sticking to the new lifestyle.

“Another thing I know for sure now is that you’ve got to ask yourself, What kind of life do you want and how close are you to living it? You cannot live the life of your dreams without coming face to face with the truth.” Oprah Winfrey

Well, what I know for sure is that your dream life has to come from the most honest of your depths…and remain realistic to that….. for it to come alive. This is who you are, when no one is around. Meaning you can’t dream of something which you cannot do anything to bring to life or begin to achieve. As in, dreaming to have a Phd in so and so, but you are not willing to study. It does not work. Nothing falls from the sky unless it’s a hip of *bleep!* from a plane flying past. You need to do the work and you will value to achievements even better. Even that plane is en route to a destination. If its not looked after or has a bad pilot, it will crush.... Much like your body

However, I do not believe anyone can tell me how I could live my best life, but everyone can advice me on how I could achieve the objectives of living my best life. How I react to such advice contributes to who I am, and personally I prefer to listen and take what makes me better and leave what brings me down. And that is how I look at Oprah’s new series, as a way for me to see if the advice and tips available can help me accelerate or tweak my plans for a better life.

In review of the series, I have this to say:

Money – I think advice which may help you get out of the mountain of credit card debts you have created over the holiday season will help you manage your future better. enews reported that already in December of 2008 there was a high amount of loan applications and they were looking at a lot of people seeking debt counseling in January 2009 for their finances. Whilst Lifeline reported a high volume of calls from depressed people due to financial stress.

My best life plan is to invest more boldly in my future to protect my income for the long term. The most important question is how much money do you have saved up or how much money will you have when you retire, for you to live on? Perhaps the simplest question is “can you avoid credit card debt or any form of unnecessary debt this year?

Some advice for those who work, is divide your salary into three 1) the things you need to pay to improve you value such as a house and several assets which don’t depreciate as badly as your car or a computer; 2) Your protection plan - these are things like, but not limited to, intelligently chosen insurance or special investment products to protect your wealth, assets or income. Including options to put away “what I call money-on-demand”, should you need any for a rainy day in order to avoid personal loans, and finally 3) Expenses – where you pay for your regular bills and lifestyle, without having to borrow but stick to a budget that works for you.

I am sure you could amend or add to your lifestyle or income. But all in all, it enables you to look at your salary from three perspectives which are My Value; My Protection, and My Lifestyle. In so doing you can create a best life plan which may include getting a second job or finding a new income stream or ask for a raise. Most importantly AVOID CREDIT as best as you can, especially on lifestyle purchases. Credit is good of long term assets such a house which work to your benefit not food and clothes.

Health – It is essential for one to always have a full physical, where the doctors probe and stick things, to ensure that your health is top notch. Especially after the nougat I had… Wink Wink… The Lady LOL...... Seriously thou, I had such a bad tummy my doctor advised me to stop eating so much of the stuff. I have a lot of doctors, from GP, Specialist, Dentist etc to ensure that I have a team of medical professionals, who are good at what they do, looking and advising me on my heath. Never rely on your GP to know everything about your body. BIG MISTAKE…You will die! Try and get up now, and make an appointment with a couple of specialists and to ensure that your health is looked at.

I am sure you guys have had all sorts of food, from fried to baked and whatever else. The most important thing is your overall wellness, where your health status supports the life you want to live for yourself. I don’t believe in cutting out the things I love in my diet, but I strongly believe in looking after my body and what I eat, when I eat and how I eat! Who prepares my food and how, are critical aspects of my life. Most people just eat and go…”wow this tastes wonderful”… here is tip… stick a fist of butter “RAMA or MARGARINE” to anything your cooking and everyone will give you the same review. So next time, make it your business to know how....the things you swallow are being prepared. Don’t just buy meat without investigating a little….you end up buying chickens and beef, grown from chemicals and you end up with cancers even without family history…..just because that meat and pap place on the side of the road smelled nice.

I think we get tempted every day by drive thru that, delivery this and meetings where everyone you meet has a meal and you have to take a bite of this and that. Don’t forget the dinner parties with so many courses that you end up wearing elastic clothes to cope. Over time you end up 200 pounds heavy and wondering what happened.

Spirituality – "As it is physically, so it is spiritually" When things go out of control in your life, so does your spiritual balance. As much as Oprah said she is hungry for balance. Her current condition affects her spiritually, and this deprives her of the balance she really needs. Some times this happens as an urgent warning from her spiritual presence to get her to pay attention to areas which need inspection or care, in her physical self. Spirituality is often made to be very complicated by people who are looking to make money from your confusion. Listen and listen carefully…in its simplicity…Spirituality is “THE TRUTH” and if you don’t get it….. look at how you deal with the truth about your life and self. That will give you clues as to why you don’t get it (Spirituality that is). Secondly, Spirituality is not a mass plantation, where anyone can get to pick their own dose…NO! Your spiritual journey and mine or anyone else’s for that matter, is very different and although we may cross paths. It does not mean I should adopt yours or visa versa. If you wrote a truth list about yourself, beliefs, life, health, money, etc you will cry and realize what you need to do to change. Guy’s this is not about consulting mediums….this is about YOU…..the power within you, that the creator gave you. It is all about your authentic self. Who you really are!

Fitness – Again, I don’t think we all have to be in the gym. I believe that the key component is finding a fitness regiment which works for your body and health. You could be jogging or mountain climbing. Whatever works best for you! I personally prefer dancing and yoga, with a bit of weights and walking. I am thinking of adding Pilates to my fitness schedule. Overall I do what works and I am not looking to win a muscle trophy so, what is important is that I am at a good weight for my age and height. I have never been overweight in my entire life and no one in my family is overweight. I can eat anything I want and won't gain anything but that does not mean I should wait for 600 pounds to be fit.

Relationships – Ah the dreaded word and all its related factors. I know that there is nothing like a positive relationship with your special loved one, close friends, family and colleagues. Of course the same can’t be said about family since they have some sort of right to drive you insane. You can always move to Timbuktu to get away. I think building positive and healthy relationships is a vital part of living your best life. Venomous people are always amongst us and it falls upon you to have the obligation to root them out of your life. These are the people who will always say negative things, who will be jealous of you and what you do, even worse, whom you date or married to. I think if you are committed to living you best life, you need to ensure that only positive people are part of your life because these bad people are like the devil, they will always try to worm their way into your life. Oprah wants did a complete show on getting rid of toxic people in your life. They drag you down and complicate your life. I live with a very strict motto, everyone has to earn the right to be in my life. Period! No Compromise.

On dating, well if anything, The Love Series taught me to never look for any thing right when it comes to dating, but to make everything right for my situation. Which means….to expect and demand what I need and ensure that the second party is on the same level! As much as I demand what I want and need, I have to be willing to provide what the “other person” needs as well. So lately I have a dating list…if we get through that, then we can go home for coffee…. Wink Wink. I don’t want confusions…..It’s not good for my thyroid.

As for sex….well one person once said to me. “The secret to a good sex life with your partner is to get to know each other’s genitals. How they are shaped, function and respond.” It actually made sense…because for some reason we expect them to miraculously know what to do. I tried out the theory in one weekend getaway and it was very effective. I experienced things I never knew possible by just getting to know better the instruments of love making up close and personal. I could share more but its too graphic. Most people expect the man to know how to drive…..it’s a tango for two, not one. So everyone has to do their part. Your tricks and my tricks, make for a fantastic ride. Dr. Oz said you need to have sex at least twice a day… I guess three or four times a day excluding quickies is a very good thing then. So I don’t know about you, I went from not saying anything to a bad sex partner for fear of hurting someone’s feelings to speaking my freaking mind…YOU ARE HORRIBLE! After all Dr. Oz said, sex is a vital part of any human being, that’s why those who don’t have sex would crave chocolates and any food which stimulate the sex hormones. Who knew! Thanks Dr. Oz.

The fact remains that everyone wants to live their best life but the conundrum is “how do you live such a life?” I want to know from you, this is not a New Years resolution.

What do you think living your best life necessitates this year?

The series continues the week of January 12 with exclusive live webcasts. Oprah and the experts will be taking your questions. Become part of it and see how you could kick off the New Year.
