Survivor SA Panama Summary
Episode 8

After a quick recap of events in the previous episode we are taken to Day 17 at the Aguila campsite.

Day 17

Aguila cannot find their flint and they realise Nico must have taken it. Mzi is very upset and thinks it was malicious of Nico to take it with him when he was voted off, Brigitte isn’t surprised he did it at all.

Each tribe receives a clue explaining that they will be given the opportunity to raid the other tribe’s camp.   Once there they must gather all the other tribes’ treasure which they think are important to build a suitable shelter. The tribes pass each other on the way to each others islands and Rana see that Nico has been voted off.

Rana isn’t very impressed with Aguila’s shelter. They are looking for Aguila’s utility knife and rice, Gareth is also concerned as he cannot find Aguila’s flint, he jokes that he is relieved that Aguila cannot steal their mango tree as Aguila will probably take everything else that is important to them. In the end Rana takes Aguila’s spade, tarpaulin and cooking utensils.

Aguila steals Rana’s flag, as well as mirrors and hair brushes. Mzi finds Rana’s flint which they are very relieved with. Rana think that Aguila will have done better raiding their camp than they have done at Aguila and they finish up with cooking utensils, rope, a spade and salt in their treasure chest.

After the raiding is done the tribes are dropped at the same beach where Mark joins them. He explains how they were supposed to gather implements they thought would be useful to their own tribe and they will now use those materials to build a new home on a new beach. Aguila and Rana are no more, the tribes merge and their new tribe is called Burba, their tribal colour is yellow. They will now be competing as individuals in an attempt to win the million rand prize.  Before they begin, a special meal in an abandoned villa is prepared for the new tribe to enjoy and celebrate. The tribe is thrilled with the feast waiting for them.

Brigitte explains the weak position the old Aguila is in, she is feeling paranoid as they are at a huge disadvantage.

Mzi admits that they are going to need to use new strategies now that the game has changed. There is still a strong sense of the old tribal allegiance and it will make surviving even more difficult.

The tribe discusses how they should build their new shelter and then get to work.

While they are gathering materials Jacinda tells Lezel that Brigitte is already trying to suck up. Lezel admits that the old Rana is still very tight and will stick to their alliance of four. Brigitte knows that girls don’t like her very much, so she is going to have to work hard to get favour with them.

While all four girls are together, Lezel asks how Danielle fared with Aguila. Brigitte says they didn’t have much time to get to know her and Vanessa asks how Rana found her. When Jacinda says they got on very well, Brigitte and Vanessa ask why they voted her off if they liked her. Jacinda states, “I didn’t vote her off” and Lezel says, “Somebody had to go”.

The tribe finishes their new shelter in the dark and prepare for their first night together.

Day 18

Burba’s new island is huge compared to the old islands, but Vanessa complains that they were eaten alive the previous night by the bugs and the shelter was very hot. She thinks they are going to have to consider moving their shelter if they are to get any rest.

Mzi is fishing and chatting to Lezel. He knows that being a food provider placed him in a strong position with his previous tribe, but he is not so sure if his fishing ability will have the same affect with his new tribe.

Zayn thinks the new tribe is interesting as everyone is still being friendly and nice to each other, especially Aguila as Rana is in the majority. Vanessa can see that the Rana tribe is still very tight and if they do try to break up the alliance they are going to have to do it very carefully. Mzi wonders about the benefit of sticking with Aguila, as jumping ship and swapping sides will offer the only real possibility of staying in the game longer. Brigitte is trying to make new alliances and even though this may not work she feels it is better than sitting around and not doing anything to try and stay in the game.

Immunity Challenge

Mark welcomes the tribes to their first individual immunity challenge. The tribe will compete against each other in a mud pit. They must cover themselves with as much mud as possible, jump out of the pit and transfer the mud into a bucket. They will do this for five minutes. At the end of the five minutes, Mark will weigh the buckets and the person with the heaviest bucket will win immunity.

Initially the women seem to be doing well by using their hair to their advantage, but the men pick up on this and eventually most of the tribe members are balancing mud on the top of their heads and between their neck and shoulders in an effort to get the heavier mud into their bucket.

At the end of the 5 minutes Mark begins weighing the buckets. Mzi’s bucket is weighed against Vanessa’s first with Mzi’s being the heavier of the two. Next up is Gareth’s bucket, which is heavier than Mzi’s. Jacinda’s bucket is slightly lighter than Gareth’s and Zayn’s bucket is also not heavy enough to beat Gareth’s. Brigitte is no match against Gareth. Finally, Lezel must measure up against Gareth and her bucket is not enough to beat Gareth's bucket and he wins the first individual immunity.

Back at camp the old Rana tribe has a quick discussion about who they should vote off, they are going to have to decide between Mzi and Brigitte. Gareth was initially thinking of voting for Mzi as he is a bigger threat than Brigitte. Jacinda explains that Mzi is a good food provider, so perhaps he shouldn’t be voted off first.

Jacinda asks Zayn to distract Brigitte so that Jacinda and Lezel can try and talk to Vanessa. They ask Vanessa if they were to secure her position in the final five would she vote with the old Rana alliance? Vanessa tells them she has nothing to lose and Jacinda explains that when they get to top five it will be everyone for themselves.

Mzi and Brigitte are disappointed that they don’t have the numbers to compete properly and try to console one another.

Lezel explains to Gareth that Jacinda wants to bring in a 5th person, as she is feeling unsure about Zayn. When Zayn hears about the discussion with Vanessa he is upset and says he will not agree to the decision. He sees this turnaround by Jacinda as being devious. Zayn states that he will be voting: Brigitte, Mzi and then Vanessa and he asks Gareth and Jacinda if they feel the same, they both say they are easy and don’t mind as long as the Aguilians go.
