Ten Commandments

Are the TEN COMMANDMENTS still valid?

What is a commandment?

The English thesaurus gives the following definition: directive, order, demand, charge, instruction, mandate and decree. All these are correct.

I would like us to talk about the commandments that are found in Exodus 20, the very commandments that were written by God’s finger. This is the only part of the Bible, written directly by God.

Today, many Christians believe that these commandments were written for those in the Old Testament times. Some say that these commandments were nailed to the cross with Christ.

Growing up, we were made to know the Ten Commandments by heart at school. Now that has been removed and we now find sex, pornography, violence and crime have become accepted as normality in television, movies, music and the internet. What I find more disturbing is that, some Christians find nothing wrong with these.

We are lost without the Ten Commandments. Here is why:

We need them to tell whether you are sinning.
They are like a mirror.
Jesus said, “If you love me then keep my commandments”
So we need the Commandments of God because they are about loving Him and fellow man. The two greatest Commandments.

Do you think that the Ten Commandments are still valid?
Do you keep the Ten Commandments and why?
Do you know that if you break one of the Commandments, you have broken them all?

I believe with all my heart all that The Bible is telling me is true and will not contest its validity at any point.

I am ashamed to say I do not always keep them but I try my level best to do and if my consience kicks in afore the do I will try and avoid it at all costs.

10 commandments to me are fundemental to christian belief because they show God's character ; that God does not approve of hatred, idolotory, adultry ,selfishness etc. That God is is God of Love, the creator of the universe and one who wants only good for us. Ive found if one lives by them ,ones life is more rewarding.I know it easier said than done

The ten commandments are still valid but we have been set free from the curse of the law.  I can't say that i keep them all but i try harder not to fall into sin, any sin...i find that i gossip a lot at work and the Lord has shown me people that i should stay away from so as to stop gossiping but i find it hard to let go.

We have been set free from the curse of the law; when one follows the commandments religiously are you not coming back under the same law? if you live by the law you will be judged by the law, if you live by grace you will be judged under grace and mercy. read Romans 8

The commandments are valid for moral reasons, and most countries before based their constitutions on them but as time progressed moved away from the commandments to satisfy some human desire....

When Jesus said if you love me, then follow my commandments was he not refering to the 2 greatest commandements? Love the Lord your God etc......and your neighbour as you love yourself etc.... which basically summed up the 10:

the first 5 which deal with God = love the Lord your God
the last 5 = love your neighbour as yourself?

Hi Ms, Jay - (waving like a lunatic). I have not cyber seen you for some time. Hope all is well with you.

We have been set free from the curse of the law; when one follows the commandments religiously are you not coming back under the same law? if you live by the law you will be judged by the law, if you live by grace you will be judged under grace and mercy. read Romans 8

Although it is true that we are saved by grace and faith is also needed, following the Ten Commandments is not legalistic. It says in the scriptures, if you love Me, then you will keep my commandments. Might I also add that it also say that Faith without works is dead.

The commandments are valid for moral reasons, and most countries before based their constitutions on them but as time progressed moved away from the commandments to satisfy some human desire....

The ten laws given by God are a guidelines for practical, fruitful, daily living. Although God gave the Ten Commandments to His people through Moses at Mount Sinai more than three thousand years ago, they are still relevant today. They have an abiding significance, for God’s character is unchangeable. These laws originate from God and from His eternal character; therefore, their moral value cannot change.

Yes - Jesus was actually making a summary of the Ten Commandments. The first four commandments are about loving God, and the last six,.. about loving fellow man.  So we need the Commandments of God because they are about loving Him and fellow man

hey FK - I have good n u?

I prefer to stay away from aurging over what is wrong and wat is the right way of interpreting scripture, Roman 14 applies for me here lest Rev 22:18-19 applies to me...

I dont think disagreeing about scripture is arguing, we are all here to learn from one another and when it comes to scripture we cannot agree to disagree for it should be factual and truth.

Re a lebogga bo sistas once again...

Jesus said, “If you love me then keep my commandments” .....period.

The interesting thing i find is that, the 10 commandments (and alll other commandments scattered arround the bible and the ones tht have been put in our hearts thru the new covenant...the concinece or holy spirit or tht voice) are all in our best interest. God is only pleased when we are in a good space.

ssssoooo

Do you think that the Ten Commandments are still valid?
Absolutely....

Do you keep the Ten Commandments and why?
I try, i live to try to keep them.....and i do tht because i know it pleases God when im well.

Do you know that if you break one of the Commandments, you have broken them all?
Yeah...so much tht i have a tenedency to announce myself as the baddest person ever. especially when i know i have wronged God with something people havent seen or heard...but he did.

Do you know that if you break one of the Commandments, you have broken them all?

Long time since I have been here, and thank you for the Word

Do you think that the Ten Commandments are still valid?
Yes, very much so. They are a guide to Christian living and tell me what my God does not tolerate.

Do you keep the Ten Commandments and why?
Yes, if I didn't I would not call myself a Christian as I would not love him, my neighbour and would just be a floater. Cant imagine what would that be like.

Do you know that if you break one of the Commandments, you have broken them all?
No, I didnt............. I always strive to keep all of them,

What laws was God referring to when He said, “I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts”? He was certainly not referring to the Ten Commandments, known as the laws of the old covenant, since He said that He found fault with that covenant and declared it obsolete. (Hebrews 8:7–9, 13)

7For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second.

8For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah:

9Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord.

10For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:

The laws that God puts in our minds and writes on our hearts refer to the royal law of love (Matthew 22:37–40), the perfect law of liberty (James 1:25) and the law of faith. (Romans 3:27) These are the laws of the new covenant.
