The Twoice: The Oscarantine Reeva tragedy

It’s a tragic story no one saw coming. Oscar Pistorius shoots girlfriend – was a chilling headline we woke up to this morning. The Twoise…

I am not the one to go on and on forever about V what what day but shame, that tweet by Oscar Pistorius’s now late girlfriend about Valentine’s Day casts spotlight on how some of us take life for granted.

oscar reeva

Since Twitter is abuzz with the Oscar news internationally and he is currently trending on the number 1 spot, I figured you lot have a lot to express. You have all read the story and have googled as much as you can about the matter. If you haven’t, well, where have yo been? Here is a short teaser: Oscar Pistorius allegedly shot dead his model girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp claiming he mistook her for a bugler prompting international headlines to cast their spotlight on Oscar and crime rate in SA.

A lot has been said on Twitter from people saying the whole thing just goes to show we live in fear in our own homes due to alarming crime rate while folks like Kuli Roberts “innocently” tweet people will blame crime levels to cover up their own crimes.

O and R

At the time of her death, Reeva had already completed filming Tropkia Island of Treasure season 5 due to debut on SABC on Saturday 16 February. The news threw producer of the show off the curve ball.

Oscar was exposed in the Sunday Times last year as a womaniser and Adrian Basson – a City Press journalist and author of Zuma Exposed, this morning tweeted that in 2009, the NPA did not prosecute Oscar for alleged domestic violence charges. The police say they will oppose Oscar’s bail application during his 14:00 court appearance today on the alleged “murder”. He was detained this morning.

Since this is Oscars’ time, royal comedian Trevor Noah Tweeted: “And the Oscar goes to – jail” prompting tweeps and tweleps to tell him where to get off.

oscar mnet
Mnet keep their word tweet

M-Net tweeted they have cancelled a whole campaign they filmed with Oscar out of respect of Reeva’s bereaved family.

Some tweeps tweeted: “14 February should now be called Oscarantine”.

Meanwhile, the State of the Nation Address 2013 is overshadowed by the Oscar and Reeva tragic news.

Obviously everyone has a lot to say about this issue, I think it will be better to let the law run its course as the truth will hopefully come to the fore.

Ha a NO Oscar needs to tell the TRUTH here... he is HIDING a lot!!!

it had better not be an accident. the guilt he will carry if it were an accident will drive him to an early grave. It sounds crazy but i hope it was not an accident. folks just have to accept that Oscar might not be the perfect dude we assume. We still need to find out who came up with that burglary rumour. The person deserves a jail term on his/her own.

In this day n age, you dont know your girlfriend is coming to visit, besides she would not have been visiting at wee hours of morning. I agree wit my fellow bloggers who are saying, first shot she screamed, akayazi ne voice ye cherry yakhe lo mlisa. She was in the house n he decided to murder her....

Not meaning to judge but i think Oscar is not telling the truth here.

Why kill her, not let her go.

Just because things were not going his way.

@Tazz ...

It did seem as though he felt the gold was his right.
,
which brings me to a photo-shopped image I got last night of him crossing the line, but instead of his finger outstretched in a victory celebration ... he is toting two pistols ...

the caption goes "99 problems but a.****** ain't ONE..."
the irony and tragedy of the caption did not pass unnoticed by me.

Mnet and their sensations! So now they are removing Oscar's billboard? TJO! Shouldnt they have waited until the REAL Truth comes out?

They should have waited.
however, they have a brand to protect, and their business is a priority over and above Pisolius' guilt or innocence by judicial process.

What happens if they stick by him ... and he is convicted?

It would be a lot like last week or thereabouts when President Zuma condemned the rape and disembowelment of that poor girl who died in the Western Cape.
I read the headline and said to my lady "Does this man know what is appropriate or not ... a rapist cannot condemn the act of rape, regardless of him being our head of state ... and expect others to listen"

VusiK
18 Feb 2013 14:13

What if they stand by him and he is acquitted ...

i guarantee you that he will not outlive the public opinion that he is a woman beater, abuser, and murderer.

the theater of public opinion is a rather harsh one in dealing with the inconvenience of the truth.
People do not forget, and no brand, or company will touch him ... ever again.

VusiK
18 Feb 2013 14:19

No business in its right mind would ever associate with what has already been revealed of him

and no business will ever want to be associated with whatever is going to emerge in court about him.

makisto
18 Feb 2013 14:25

What happens if they stick by him ... and he is convicted?
The would start losing sponsors before he can appear in court for bail application tomorrow

the theater of public opinion is a rather harsh one in dealing with the inconvenience of the truth.
True, surely the public doesn't work like teh courts do man. Right now, the court calls him a suspected murderer but the jury is already out about whether the public refers to him as a suspect or a convict already. If the court finds him guilty, would the public be wrong for having referred to him with a convict's title?

Of course Pistorius sees himself as a celebrity. Indeed he started wanting to be an un-amputee when he wanted to run as an able-bodied person. He is obsessed with attention and loves the fact that the world was talking about him. His London 2012 behaviour left a lot to be desired. Hopefully there will be no site of his at Rio 2016.

People do not forget, and no brand, or company will touch him ... ever again.
Touching him would be like shooting yourself in the foot. Since Nike don't depend on sponsors to stay afloat in business, they are still waitimg for the guilty or not guilty verdict before they can make a decision. But the truth about our criminal justice system is that this case will drag on and on for least 4 years

What an absolute tragedy. I have never liked Oscar, thought he was arrogant. But we all have green grass and should not judge. My heart goes out to Reeva's parents, having lost a child myself at the age of 33 Years as well as to Oscar's parents and family. Let us count our blessings, we never know what tomorrow may bring our way. I also feel dreadfully sorry for Oscar, letting your anger, get out of control. We should all think about this, how many times do we not let road rage get in our way of thinking clearly?

Hello everyone,

I'm still saddened and i don't know what to believe. What make things worse is these so called media. They write about everything. They are digging some old stupid stories whereas we want the truth. I don't care how many guns he owns or he hides one gun kwichamber yakhe all i need is the real truth behind this girl's death.

When these news broke the PI in me thought of those irritating signing books we always forced to sign and i thought that will clear this intruder thing. Now i heard from ETV that she came around 6pm so it explains EVERYTHING if that it's true.

True, I think after the loud argument, he would have done himself and most importantly, Reeva's parents great justice if he demanded she vacate his house during those wee hours of the morning.

Now this would have only been a Sunday World and Sunday Times tabloid story about Oscar's womanising. Raising your hand on any woman, no matter what she has done, it just simply not on. Shooting her, eishhhhh, I don't wanna think about it. I really believe with the current acts of women abuse, the law should use this Oscar case to send out a very strong message

Myname sweethear puntjupuntju waka, remember these old stories help put some sort of context to the current state of affairs. It's like saying Makisto writes on TVSA and be quiet. You need to know this started with passion for the media, then went to varsity to study and now I can write on TVSA, so I cannot just start by writing on TVSA without any context.

You get what I am saying. So, the media is helping you understand the mind and behaviour pattern of an alleged murderer.

So the media is helping you understand this and see it from a greater scheme of things as opposed to seeing the shooting of Reeva in isolation. We all know how our past has an impact on our present "tense" akere mara.

But the truth about our criminal justice system is that this case will drag on and on for least 4 years

.. and irreparable damage may happen to Nike as a brand during that 4 years, depending on activist action, here and globally.

Presently, the world is in shock, and he has a lot of support, however, i am willing to bet that support will evaporate when those around him, and those who experienced him come out with their versions of how bad a person he was with them (not many people are going to step out and take the risk of standing by how good a person he was ... principally because he killed someone ... regardless of the court's findings).

@Myname

Now i heard from ETV that she came around 6pm so it explains EVERYTHING if that it's true.

Where would she have been all night considering the fact that the police stated that she was in her sleeping clothes? This suggests that she was home, and in bed, hopefully with him most of the night.

Well ...
My opinion is ...
If this man wins his case in open court,
...
such judjment would declare "open season" on the abuse and murder of spouses in our country, especially women.... considering we have a terrible record regarding spousal abuse, it could probably be the final nail in our proverbial coffin as a nation regarding any form of moral statement, or action, or activism, or position we could possibly take regarding family, spousal, and gender related abuse, violence, etc.,
...
We will observe, and see the outcomes of events.

Not exactly Maki. Some of these old stories in this case are just being used to wipe up frenzy and sell copies of *bleep!* in the name of journalism. A good example is the story in Times about a friend who said Oscar shot a gun that missed his legs by inches. Turns out the gun was not Oscars and the safety nton nton was unlatched in error and a bullet came flying out and almost grazed the guy. Oscar apologised profusely for days to the guy. Tell me what bearing this has with the case at hand?
The media are just being their usual sensational experts and milking this case for all that it is worth. I pity Reeva's family cos soon the public will be weary and choose to move unto the next disaster.

Oscar Pistorius made the following statements in his affidavit:

- I fail to understand how I could be charged with murder, let alone premeditated murder because I had no intention to kill.
- I had no intention to kill my girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.
- I have been informed I have been accused of murder – I deny the accusation.
- Nothing can be further from the truth that I planned the murder of my girlfriend.
- On 13 Feb Reeva would have gone out with her friends, me with mine. She wanted to stay at home.
- I was watching TV. My legs were off. She was doing yoga. At the end of the evening we got into bed.
- I’m aware of people gaining entries to homes to commit crime, I've received death threats.
- I sleep with my 9mm under my bed. I woke up to close the sliding door and heard a noise in the bathroom.
- I was scared and didn't switch on the light. I got my gun and moved towards the bathroom.
- I screamed at the intruder because I did not have my legs on I felt vulnerable. I fired shots through the bathroom door and told Reeva to call police.
- I walked back to the bed and realised Reeva was not in bed. Its then it dawned on me it could be her in there.
- I kicked the door open. Called paramedics and complex security. I tried to carry her down stairs for help.
- I tried to help her but she died in my arms.
- With the benefit of hindsight I realise that Reeva went to the bathroom when I went to close the balcony door.

My understanding through analytical trajectorists is that there is a strong possibility she was shot in the bedroom 1st ... a hip-shot, before ambling her way to the bathroom, where the rest of the shots were fired, including the fatal shot... shoots down the sequence of events narrative, situational awareness, alertness, and many other aspect of his story.
... and that the shots were fired from a standing adult position (all of them) ... shoots down the no-legs argument

This boy should shut up, and not make statements, and not testify in open court, and allow the trial to base itself on some other basis outside of anything he has stated so far.

If I was the prosecutor ... I'd bury him six-love six-love six-love .

Both my girlfriend and me sleep with weapons in bed, or on the bedside, or under the bed,  (she has hers, ... I have mine), and we make know when the other is stirring in bed, or going to the crapper.
We are both lightsleepers & she is paranoid after we had a burglary when I was away, but we both know when the other moves, turns, gets up, or out of bed ... we don't run for the weapons.

Also ... if he had no legs strapped on  and vulnerable... How did he go and close the sliding door?

I honestly do no thing thing locking the door should be any issue. Many pple have a habit of locking the toilet door . my question is just from the time he ok the gun and put on his fake leg how come he did notice that Reeva was not in bed. When he told her to call the police did she respond?

VusiK
20 Feb 2013 21:18

AND WHEN he reached for that gun from "Under the bed" did he not see REEVA sleeping

... or not sleeping ... Did he not see Reeva at all ?

anywhere?

I've never discharged a weapon without aiming at a target. Was he blinded, or otherwise visually impaired when discharging the first round ... the one in the bedroom ... not the bathroom ones that apparently were fired through a door.

My house rule is this simple ...

When the alarm goes off ...
Everyone must go to their nearest securable room, and not come out until I verify that it is safe to do so ... (Family remains in secure locations and only I move around the house) ...
to avoid shooting at a loved one (or being shot at by my girlfriend (considering that she is a better shot than I am)... and
I never discharge a weapon without first shouting a verbal warning. (strangers will be running into strange and unfamiliar spaces (normally away from the house's security cell) ...

them I will shoot at) ...

Oscar is telling stories somewhere ...
He best shut up and allow the legal process to run its course.

VusiK
20 Feb 2013 21:32

I meant why don't we have a Jury

We operate the remnants of Roman dutch jurisprudence, which historically waives the juror panel in favour of juristic adjudication / judge / magistrate.

Also ... my opinion is .. We are not ready socially, nor have we developed sufficiently as a society to consider the viability of juror adjudication ... We are still a nation divided along many levels, how does one define a jury of peers ...

Actually the history of Jurys is very interesting ...

Jurys came about in frontier country during the great exploratory periods ...
generally because exploration, speculation, and expansion generally outstripped the abilities and reach of legal system ...
hence when one was accused of commiting a transgression, society (due to the nature and times that existed back then) tended to be impatient in teaching swift and decisive lessons to violators ... society often refused to wait a year or so for the adjudication of justice to visit their neighbourhood.
and also
the cost, effort, and trouble of holding transgresors could outweigh the penalties ...
hence
courts evolved to an adjudicator in oversight over the opinions of society regarding the violator and violation, and remedial action for the victim and society at large ...
hence ... adjudication by a jury of ones peers.

(A tiny and irellevant piece of historical reference)

and ... It would never work here ... everyone would avoid jury duty (as they do try their best to avoid serving on juries in the USA), but mainly because we are a minefield of prejudices and divisions.

Mrs Chix
21 Feb 2013 13:01

Thanks you Vusik......I feel very bad for the victims family but my problem is the South African and international media.Once the media decides that u r guilty no one can say otherwise, its not up to us to speculate only two people were in that house. Oscar and Reeva are that only pple who know what really happened.
