Rand-ela banks notes *RollsEyes*

Madiba is unquestionably an international icon of note we can all bank on and I love him to bits. However, I feel the new bank notes are totally unnecessary as they are of no value to the poor and those living in abject poverty.

legit

I wish I could say “Yay, finally the Randela bank notes are here” but the reality is the notes’ design isn’t at all unique let alone easy on the eye.

I honestly feel that the Mandela bank notes are unnecessary because fact is they add no value to anyone’s life. I must point out that I love Madiba and all. I mean, I share a birthday with the former statesman for my bank notes’ sake. He is adored the world over by billions of people and South Africa has to value him in some way.

money papa

If you asked me to be honest, I will tell you that I loved my Big5 on my bank notes. I am not just saying this to throw a tantrum or to be silly. The truth is, if you have a Mandela R100 note, that will not become a R200. In fact, the new notes will not make poverty go away, will not take the poor in rural areas to institutions of higher learning, if you know what I mean.

R10

Essentially, I am saying we should rather focus our energy and creativity on other crucial things that contribute to social cohesion and socio-economic development of our country. My not appreciating the new bank notes doesn’t mean I don’t like Mandela, let’s get that straight. I am just saying I feel the change was totally unnecessary and adds no value to anyone’s life. That’s all I am saying.

I totaly get the necessity and the benefits of Madiba on the notes, besides security. Due to the pap state of my brain lately I'm unable to put words together hle (I forget the stupidest things and words). I hope someone will explain, economics fundis where art thou? PS: Zuma on our bank notes would spell disaster, for this same reason I'm unable to articulate. Hungry hungry hungry...

I guess not all initiatives will tickle eveyone's fancy. I also am no Madiba 'fan'.... But there is no denying his stature globaly. And whether we like him or not, I wish the actual benefits of this changes can be properly explained, so that we can all rally behind this, it will benefit everyone, its more than just about honoring him...

GA mara how will this benefit poor people in a remote rural area? Those who go to bed without food? Huh? How will they benefit from this. I get what Taz is saying about the 5-7 years but we could have showcased SA's tourist destinations on those notes which is something that can create jobs because tourists in a way pave way for job creation.

I really do not see an investor wanting to invest in SA just because of the Mandela notes. But I do see an investor wanting to open a restaurant at the top of Table Mountain in Cape Town if the moountain was on the new notes

I also think Mandela will feel honoured if we speed up service delivery and put the needs of the poor first. He will feel very hunoured and even on the year that God remembers him, he will rest in peace knowing he fought for the poor and they are being taken seriously by the elite

I don't like these new notes kwaphela! Maybe they should have lessen the colour. I have R100, 50 and 10 and I feel exchanging them. And the texture (if that is the right word for it) doesn't do it for me.

Not changing them won't make any difference anyway. Can we stop always putting ourselves down it's irking. Change is forged, we'll get used to it!

Green.arrow

Indeed pkpage, Changing them or not does not harm anybody. However @Makisto... It is a purposeful move that will benefit everyone. I will find the details that will explain better than I can attempt to (even if I wasn't pap brained), ill copy and paste here.

@makisto, let's assume its time, may be because os security measures to change the notes, what (picture) would you recommend to be used on the notes that would have helped the poor?

They look like Tanzanian shillings, with Julius Nyerere's face thereon. The colours & the position where Madiba's face is

My point exactly *dies*

Showcasing SA tourist destinations will help the poor as that can attract investors to invest in SA and that creates jobs

Just for the sake of it, I went to an ATM to withdraw R380. For sure I got all the denominations of the Randela.... Not pretty, not pretty at all. It looks like colour blocking in my wallet. Seriously though it looked like a bunch of receipts and slips stashed there. As for the benefits, as long as we keep the current government in power, the colour of our bank notes soyishintsha size siyenze transparent! The poor will remain poor. What is Mandela Special for again *Please educate me bloggers*? Kanti is he the only one who fought for SA's freedom...Mandela this, Mandela that, maybe l am not educated enough to understand all the hype about him... Yes he was the first black President after apartheid, he was in prison for 27yrs, what else... Can l have a willing blogger assist me on that. l still think there was nothing wrong with the big 5, it was beautiful...But then maybe Mandela deserves to be everywhere based on SA history... Vele what is a icon?

Still don't have the new notes, I hate being broke. All I'm waiting for now is our country's name to be changed to the Republic of Nelson Mandela, our black jesus, he never fought the battle alone.
