Natural birth vs Caesar

Let me first start by TVSA’s famous signature line “Please don’t bite me, I am new here and please welcome me…”

Before I gave birth I never entertained the thought of having a c-section. Never even read articles which had to do with it. I thought that women who go through with it without having any medical complications are “cowards” and giving birth after all was about stretching your legs, sweating, crying and most importantly feeling pain. I wanted to feel that pain, I wanted to pat myself on the back and declare that I am indeed a woman by enduring birth pains.

Well the day my water broke my child’s head was still high and my gynae advised on a c-section. I did not want it, I thought about all the birthing experience I was going to miss, the pushing. What I had imagined was not going to be and remember I did not know what happens since I was not educating myself on Caesar, I was after all not a “coward”. My mind was busy, called my mom and asked for her advise and eventually did a c-section.

I must admit that my birth experience was beautiful, with my husband by my side videotaping every minute of our first child’s day on earth. What I find interesting after wards when I announced the birth of him was most people’s negative attitude towards Caesar. The comments were staggering and negative. Saying that I took the easy way out, what’s so natural about natural birth?? I thank God for epidural and for Caesar. As much as it takes for ever to heal, I thank God that I had an easy labour not because of c-section but all along I have been praying for the pain to be numb.

So blockers what is your take on having a c-section, do you think women who do it are “cowards”??

No I don't think you are a coward, but I believe that a natural way is the way to go for me. It's a beatiful experience and I never want to miss it.
I had natural birth and I will do it again.

I dont know anything about giving birth because I have never given birth.

but my views on C- section differ from yours. I know that they do a c-section for emergencies on the 1st child. So I dont have a problem with it.

I'm still not sure what i would - natural or C-section. But hubby will not hear of C-section unless the doctors says so.

I watch birth stories on Zone reality everyday and i think it's ok to have the baby naturally. but then again those women react differently leaving me very confused about what I am going to do.

So I will see when my water breaks

I ai'nt got no babies yet, but i would like to have a natural birth, i've watched the tapes, heard the (painful, horrendous) testimonies, but i would like to have that experience, not because i think i'm brave but its something i want to experience.
However if there's ever any medical reason for me not to have a natural birth but a c-section, i would welcome that option if only to deliver a healthy baby becos at the end of the day the baby has to be delivered, ceaser or no ceaser.

@BA  Pregnancy is so fulfilling and don't worry about the tummy coz when you are you are focused on the well being of your unborn child.  I was also felling like that before i conceived but when it happened i could not stop looking and admiring my tummy.

Have gone natural...but if there was a medical problem that required me to do the C-section i would. but first choice is natural birth.

i dont look down or think badly of ppl who do Ceasar - its their choice, just like with most things in life. you choose which one is best for you.

I had c section twice and I dont think I had been a "coward" for that,if you have to go through a c setion you dont have to feel as if you are not woman enough because you didnt do the push push, for the mere fact that you where pragnant for 9  months, and you have to go through the epidural and a gynae had to slaughter you like a cow, believe me you are a woman enough and of course not a "coward"

yes nekzo and with C you still have to endure the pain of the wound afterwards. i know with naturla as well if you teared and wathungwa for a few days it gets sore down there until you heal.

just love attention maybe thats why - guess that's why i love it too cleve. but have one last time to be preggies but it can wait for a couple of years..

natural - what happens to your vijayjay, does it get big - and please don't tell me it will go back to its normal size cos i've heard a lot of guys and women complaining about that.

@BA: I hated the thought od kids nje. I didnt even want to hold them until a friend gaev birth adn I help the 4 hour old baby in my arms and hubby told me I look beautiful holding that baby. I knew then that I was ready.

so I'm preparing for 1 now

Mathaz
23 Jul 2009 12:33

@Maddie, i know your gina goes back after giving birth even if your child's head was somehow big and with a c-section they cut you open to take the baby out and your gina stays intact.

I miss all the attention I got while preggies. I had a natural, and retained my size 32 figure.
The advantage of natural is that o bofa letheka immediately after birth and get back to your waist figure, whilst c-sectioners are nursing their operations.

Either way, you're stilla mother

I have doctor friend who specialises in such and i always try to get him to say.."giving birth is not painfull....but he never does, nommater how i phrase my question......

God help us hle.....

Apparantly it does, because it's naturally supposed to dilate. The only difference is that the baby doesn't eventually go through.

Ja with a ceasar you shal stay with a mkhaba because you can't tie your tummy. But with natural you are done the moment you give birth. The pain is non or little. To fully recover ti will take a week. So I prefer natural because you get back to your life quicker.

23 Jul 2009 12:51

i find that most doctors nowadays will give any excuse for you to have a c-section. it's fast, goes according to their schedule, plus the money's waay better than a natural birth. i feel every woman needs to question the necessity of a c-section (if adviced by a doctor) and determine, get a 2nd opinion if you have to, whether or not that is the "best" option.

a c-section is no "easy way out" by the way. i had a natural birth with no epidural. the pain lasted some hours. but i hear the "after" pains of a c-section take weeks to go away. in that time you hav eto breastfeed etc...when it comes to giving birth there IS NO EASY WAY OUT

what’s so natural about natural birth
the fact that you popped a watermelon out of a keyhole

So blockers what is your take on having a c-section, do you think women who do it are “cowards”??
you are a coward if you choose it, but if you it was a Dr's advice there is nothing one can do

nna i popped mine out broad day light ka 13H30 after close48 hours of labour  pains. the worst was that his dad had just left for Germany 10 days before..tjeer

what i thank God for is that at some point the Dr said the child is in disstress and i'll have to deliver ka c- section....yesess a gana mfana wam a lend on earth broad day light......oh the greatest experience ever

23 Jul 2009 13:13

I've had a C section by choice. I can't stand pain and so I went for it. This does not make me a coward. It was painful though. If natural is more painful then I'll never go for it.

1 thing I love about the C section is the Sexy scar I got. It is so adorable and unbelievable. I always make sure I shave my vjay even though no one sees it.. I love my scar and I'm so proud of it. I just touch it and think about that experience. I remember they were playing some song about calafonia. I saw "everything" while I was calm with him on myside and everyone was wearing those silly theatre clothes.

Everything was perfect until I woke up from my peacefull sleep. I cried for no reason and the pains that night... very painful.. i still feel bad for the poor nurse who had to take care of me that nite.  i made her cry.

SuddenCute
23 Jul 2009 13:16

I gave birth the natural way without epidural and yes its painful, you get the pains here and there and thats it but with C the pain lasts for weeks.

what happens to your vijayjay, does it get big - and please don't tell me it will go back to its normal size- it stretches yes but it goes back to its size and the kegel exercises helps especially when they are done way before giving birth until after giving birth as it strengthen the muscles of the pelvic floor

Mathaz

There are many options:
1. There's this gim rubberish belt sold at Game/Dion. First wrap yo waist with some cotton material followed by this belt.
2. Flene material (ask yo granny about this one), it's very comfortable.
3. This smallernyana towels.

I just wish it was possible for the pregnancy to have a shorter period, phela 9 months is too long according to me.And I've heard some people even go up to the 10th month.I think I've been putting off pregnancy coz of the duration. I think I'd go the natural way (even though ke legwala) coz apparently u feel pain for a short time.I wouldn't opt for the c-section coz of the post-op pain (except of course for medical reasons) and I wouldn't go for the epidural either coz my aunt had it and she complained of backache for 2yrs.

Epidural ke an injection that they'll give you to numb your lower body. You'll be awake when they perform the operation but your lower body will be dead. They make you sit on a small chair while you've got this big tummy and they inject it on your spine.

Oh Ms.t… With the first baby they normally sika the vj to create more space. Maar this heals very quickly, thanks to the sits baths ka savlon. Luckily I gave birth in summer, thus I ate lots of peaches, apricots after birth. It took me 4 days to do number2 and I was so scared. But when the call of nature calls, there’s nothing one can do other than to respond. Thus I recommend prunes, raisins, peaches as well as apricots before and after birth to ease constipation.

Gone are the days of acting like birth is a medical procedure with 20 people fussing around you, people are optic for home births manje. I'm all for natural birth, and I'm praying that everything goes well so that I can have my water birth

I'd say if you can get a midwife go with one, gynea are all about the money so they'll most definately wanna slice you. Good midwives try by all means to prevent perineal tearing (BTW you can do perineal massages to lessen the chance). It's mostly gov hospitals that cut your perineal area.

If you are not dilating as fast and in pain (obviously LOL) there are many methods to help pethadine etc.

check out www.genesisclinic.co.za for the most beautiful birthing clinic in SA..even BA will wanna have a baby LOL

23 Jul 2009 14:47

for me it was.... no pain at all mara side effects after the procedure....hmmmmmm

Twenke
23 Jul 2009 14:50

GML....they cut ur vijay with a scissor when the baby's heard is about to come
out...You will not feel anything coz u will be concentrating on ur contractions and pushing.
Before they stitch u they inject a local anaestheic on the vjay..so it wont be painful..if they dont cut you there are possibilities of the vjay tearing if the baby's head is big.
Some women give birth naturally without even being cut...it depends on pple really.

Thanks Mat & i will read ur replies later....

Hi mothers & mother-to-be....

I have a baby boy but i neva 4get the day i gave birth. Honestly i dont c myself having another baby unless of course i am married. Ndicela undive kakuhle sana, kuyanyiwa.

Virginity is not  painfull but giving birth is hell. I gave birth naturally but i was gatvol, asking myself kanti lomntana uzophuma nini.

I am still traumatised & i think if i need another baby in the future i will go counseling b4.

It is DAMN painful, i dont wanna lie 2 u.

Lastly 2 ansa ur q, no darling u r not cowards as sometimes its not your choice.

Some government hospitals are so cruel...my cousin gave birth to a 4.1 baby the natural way and she was so torn she could not even walk and was so constipated.

Having done C, I don't think i'll go the natural route.  To all mothers to be breast feeding is the best and cost effective.  The feeling that you get from knowing that your baby is sucking you for life and proteins, it's out of this world.

23 Jul 2009 15:10

I was all giddy and all nausea at both the C-Sections I attended, a third is on the way, and I will have to go through the nausea and Giddy all over again ... All but one of my children are C-sectioned. I have only witnessed two births. It is never pleasant, but I have never experienced a natural birth. I focus more on the result than on the modality.

23 Jul 2009 15:23

I don't mind c when it's your choice but i have a problem with these doctors who lie to you guys so they can make mo moola by c. For the first child I'd say ome should try natural just so you know how it is,I promise you won't die and after all that pain when they put your baby in your arm it becomes worth it and it makes you so proud of you self. Ok after two natural births,I still say I would do it again, maybe with the help of an epidural this time around.

So blockers what is your take on having a c-section, do you think women who do it are “cowards”?hayibo its not about being a ''coward'' because u go through the labour pain, they told me very early that i'll deliver through ceasar   my baby was lying vertically so there was no other option
