Not The Presidential Debate (21 April 2009)
Coming up on 3rd Degree:

Episode: Not The Presidential Debate
Broadcast date: 21 April 2009 at 21h30
Channel: e.tv and the eNews Channel

In South Africa almost a quarter of the population is unemployed, more people are living with HIV/AIDS than in any other country and government corruption continues to make headlines.

These are some of the issues the party candidates must address and attempt to solve in what many regard as the most important election since 1994.

3rd degree wanted to host a Presidential debate but the ANC says that Jacob Zuma doesn’t debate and COPE gave the impression that they couldn't decide on who it's real president is so Debora Patta's hosting Not the Presidential Debate. All the major political parties will be in the studio to answer questions, just not all the presidential candidates.

In an hour-long live special, a day before the election, the show will debate with ANC Secretary General Gwede Mantashe, DA Leader Helen Zille, COPE Deputy President Mbhazima Shilowa, ID Leader Patricia de Lille and UDM Leader Bantu Holomisa.

The questions posed to them: where do they all stand on issues such as the economy, crime, corruption and health?

This debate will just be another Zuma bashing affair so I will not even waste my time. The ANC has already won so I do not see the point of all this.
The other parties should really learn to say what they stand for and how they plan to be defferent from the rulling party and stop all this voet voet nonsense they spew every time they open their morral mouths.
Reply from: realist Tuesday, April 21, 2009 06:41 AM
This will be a pointless debate at this point. Will give it a miss. Most voters have already decided who they are going to vote anyway.
Reply from: maddie Tuesday, April 21, 2009 13:19 PM
why is Zuma not getting involved in these debates? i personally would love to see him debating no Zille, Bantu, Lekota and the rest
Reply from: Beyonce Tuesday, April 21, 2009 13:29 PM
Why is the UDM always represented by Bantu Holomisa? Does this party even have other "leaders" or executives? Who is this party's General Secretary, what about spokesperson?

Didnt they think we will notice that the same people are speaking in these debates? Like Beyonce said why vele? Abekho yini abantu who clever enough to represent that parties. Dandala was chosen by the branches to be their presidential candidate and Lekota is going to be their leader until they hold their first conference. Personally this COPE messed up by having two leaders.

Reply from: One and Only? Tuesday, April 21, 2009 15:11 PM
*These are my opinions and not facts, they do not represent the views of the company I'm working for, and professional bodies that I am a member of*

The reason why you would never see JZ engaging in a debate is because he doesn't know anything about nothing, his lack of education also make it impossible for him to discuss economic related issues or any other issues for that matter.

Remember during the rape case his lawyers dominated until he was given a chance to talk, he nearly spoiled the case by mentioning showers.

The fact that he has never been a professional and worked for any company before also makes it impossible for him to understand the chain of command or line of reporting which is why he told the public that all the police officers are gonna wear boots in his reign and also that he will reinstate the dead penalty. He's the president not Jackie Selebi.

This is the guy that should never be left alone with the public before he would promise heaven and earth. Obama has came up with mitigating actions against financial crisis in USA. I wonder what is Zuma's strategy when it comes to this that is if he knows what credit crunch is.
Reply from: Cande Tuesday, April 21, 2009 15:12 PM

@beyonce

even before Dandala was appointed Zuma has always dodged ama debates.

mabeki challenged him to a debate  - wa saba
zille challenged him - wa saba too -

i remember pre 1994 - mandela and de klerk debating before elections

my take is that he does not know how to debate, he prefers to read speeches written by someone else with no one asking questions about what he's talking about.

what will happen when he's president and the international media interviews him

Reply from: MsDee Tuesday, April 21, 2009 15:28 PM
Sbu is an example of power gone wrong! First he buys YFM shares, and then he plays his own record label song that’s not on the playlist, now this!!! As a journo/dj whatever you call them, must at least to the public come across as impartial… Now imagine that on a bigger scale!!!!!! Too much power that’s what it does folk…guess what they’ll suspend him then what??? He’s still getting paid!!!!!

Beyonce well, tomorrow  in that little booth you will definetely see Nana Ngobese-Nxumalo.

@ Cande...many ur still undecided I tell you!!!! My boss just annouced he wants to be the swing vote, so he'll watch the counting process live & vote just b4 closing!!!!

Guys who responds to the questions by the media in media confrences when Zuma is there? JZ. Who comments on the media whenever JZ is brought up? JZ. Now ke I think this statement made by someone "nna i think it is because they know that if JZ is there the focus will be more on him than the ANC(organization) .... it has always been even if he is not there... " is very true, not even Debra herself would be able to control Zille, Lekota and Zuma under the same roof....

Kodwa 1&only u speak such truth really, i have no disrespect for JZ at all, but truth be told, uJZ cannot be left on his own (with no prepared speech) on live TV, that would really lead to his public demise. He does say some darndest things sometimes , but we hardly catch on cos he says it with charm and calmness and people are already brainwashed even the Afrikaners, who according to him "are the only true white Africans".

go figure.......

Yes Zuma is not educated, yes he even battles with a written speech, yes he's not a professional and never worked for a company.  Don't you guys think that is the reason he does not want to engage in a debate.  Maybe he is aware of his weaknesses (areas of development) and working on them.  If this is true, then big ups to him.

Looks like we will be hearing about JZs case all over again. Cant these people just tell us how they will bring change and stop blaming ANC.
There goes godzille not saying how excaly they will deal with crime but pointing fingers.......I give up
Reply from: Sbosh Tuesday, April 21, 2009 21:58 PM
As far as I can see these political parties are the ones not respecting the rule of law, they insist that Zuma is corrupt before they prove it. How can they know he's guilty before they prove that ? NPA has given them a chance to pursue the case by dropping the charges, but because they are brainwashed they can't appreciate that?
Reply from: Brown Shuga Tuesday, April 21, 2009 21:59 PM
Debra asks a question and interrrupts them even before tehy answer lol

Reply from: Sbosh Tuesday, April 21, 2009 22:08 PM
COPE's leader's head is full of dead cells; the last debate before elections I feel disappointed. He hasn't said what they have as strategy against crime but blames the ANC, so crime is an ANC issue ? Maybe that's why they will still be government & only they'll be able to rectify their mistakes, no one has an alternative.

Judging from this debate it looks like the ANC is rightfully in government. They have problems that can be corrected while other parties don't even have genuine ideas to challenge & improve things.
