Bio

Gordon Ramsay is a Scottish chef, television personality and entrepreneur. He has been awarded a total of 12 Michelin stars, and is one of only three chefs in the United Kingdom to hold three Michelin stars at one time.

He is known in the UK for presenting TV programmes about competitive cookery and food, such as Hell's Kitchen and The F-Word.

He is best known in the United States as the host of FOX's Hell's Kitchen, which premiered in May 2005, and of Kitchen Nightmares, which premiered in September 2007, based on his successful British show Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares.

He also hosts and judges the series MasterChef in the USA, which premiered in 2010.

Scottish by birth, Ramsay was brought up in Stratford-upon-Avon, England, from the age of five. With an injury prematurely putting an end to any hopes of a promising career in soccer, he went back to college to complete a course in hotel management.

Ramsay's first years in the kitchen were spent training under culinary luminaries Marco Pierre White and Albert Roux in London, as well as Guy Savoy and Joöl Robuchon in France. In 1993, Ramsay became chef of the newly opened Aubergine, and within three years, the restaurant was awarded two Michelin stars.

In 1998, at the age of 31, Ramsay set up his first wholly owned restaurant, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, which was awarded three Michelin stars within three years of its launch and is now London's longest-running restaurant to hold this prestigious accolade.

Over the next five years, he and his team launched some of London's most high-profile restaurants, including Gordon Ramsay at Claridge's, Pétrus at The Berkeley, The Grill Room and MENU at The Connaught and The Savoy Grill.

By 2003, Ramsay opened his first international restaurant, Verre, located in the Dubai Hilton Creek Hotel. Between 2004 and 2010, Gordon Ramsay Holdings launched a number of successful restaurants in London, including maze, maze Grill, Plane Food at Heathrow Airport and Murano, York & Albany, as well as two pubs, The Narrow in Limehouse and The Warrington in Maida Vale.

GRH now operates a number of restaurants across the globe in New York, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Dublin, Doha, Paris, Tuscany, Sardinia and Melbourne.

In March 2010, Pétrus reopened in Knightsbridge, whilst further afield the group launched its first restaurants in Australia, with maze and maze Grill opening at the Crown Entertainment Complex in Melbourne.

November 2010 saw the long awaited re-launch of the iconic Savoy Grill, following a refurbishment of the entire hotel.

One of only four chefs in the U.K. to maintain three Michelin Stars, Ramsay was awarded an Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) for his service to the hospitality industry.

He has also become a star of the small screen both in the U.K. and U.S. with shows such as Kitchen Nightmares, The F Word, Hell's Kitchen, Gordon's Great Escape, Masterchef, Ramsay's Best Restaurants and Christmas with Gordon.

Ramsay has also published a number of hugely successful books including his autobiography, Roasting in Hell's Kitchen.
