Bio

Carmen Ejogo is an English actress best known for her roles as Turner in the television series Kidnapped and as Alean in the made-for-TV movie Lackawanna Blues.

She also had a starring role as Rebecca "Beck" Riley, a sexy FBI agent with plenty of secrets of her own, in the short-lived conspiracy thriller television series Zero Hour, in 2013.

She made her U.S. film debut opposite Eddie Murphy as Veronica Ronnie Tate in the 1997 comedy, Metro, and went on to star in such films as Kenneth Branagh's adaptation of Shakespeare's Love's Labour's Lost, What's the Worst that Could Happen?, opposite Martin Lawrence, Neil Jordan's The Brave One, with Terrence Howard and Jodie Foster, Gavin O'Connor's Pride and Glory, opposite Ed Norton, and in Sam Mendes' 2009 indie hit, Away We Go, with Maya Rudolph.

Ejogo received critical praise for her role as Tammy Sister Anderson in Sparkle, alongside Whitney Houston and Jordin Sparks, a remake of the 1976 film of the same name which centered on three singing teenage sisters from Harlem who form a girl group in the late 1950s.

She also can be seen opposite Tyler Perry in the feature Alex Cross, a psychological thriller about a Washington DC detective who vows to track down his niece's killer, released in October 2012.

Ejogo garnered additional attention from television critics and audiences for her portrayal of Sally Hemmings, the title character in the 2000 CBS miniseries Sally Hemmings: An American Scandal.

Later she starred as Coretta Scott King in HBO's critically acclaimed film, Boycott, opposite Jeffrey Wright and Terrence Howard, a role that earned her a 2001 Image Award nomination for Outstanding Actress in a TV Film or Miniseries.

In 2005 Ejogo starred in HBO's Emmy-nominated Lackawanna Blues, her role as Alean earning her a second Image Award nomination for Outstanding Actress in a TV Film or Miniseries.

Born and raised in London, Ejogo now resides in New York City. While performing in the HBO film Boycott, she met and later married actor Jeffrey Wright. They have one son, Elijah.
