Natascha McElhone is an English actress best known for her roles in The Truman Show (1998), Solaris (2002), and as Lady Mary Boleyn in the original adaptation of the controversial novel The Other Boleyn Girl (2003).

She also starred as Karen van der Beek in the comedy-drama television series Californication, from 2007-2014.

McElhone was born in Hampstead, London and grew up in Brighton. After school she studied at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art for three years, during which time she made her first television appearances in an episode of Bergerac in 1991 and Absolutely Fabulous in 1992.

She graduated in 1993 and went on to work in London theatre, appearing in various theatre productions including Richard III, The Cherry Orchard and Midsummer Night's Dream.

In 1994 she appeared in the TV series Breed of Hero's on the BBC and in the 1996 she made her film debut in the James Ivory film Surviving Picasso.

She then went on to star in various American films including The Devil's Own (1997), The Truman Show (1998), Ronin (1998), Love's Labour's Lost (2000), Laurel Canyon (2002), Killing Me Softly (2002), City of Ghosts (2002), FeardotCom (2002), Solaris (2002), Ladies in Lavender (2004), Guy X (2005), Big Nothing (2006), The Secret of Moonacre (2008) and The Kid (2010).

In 2005 she starred in the mini-series Revelations, playing the role of Sister Josepha Montafiore.

In Spring 2006 she starred in the West End production of Honour at Wyndham's Theatre alongside Diana Rigg and Martin Jarvis.

In 2007 she began starring in the controversial Showtime series Californication as Karen, alongside David Duchovny.

McElhone married plastic surgeon Dr. Martin Hirigoyen Kelly on May 19, 1998. The couple lived in London with their two sons: Theodore (Theo, born 2000) and Otis (born May 2003); their third son, Rex, was born in October 2008, 5 months after Kelly's death.

On 20 May 2008, 43-year-old Kelly was found slumped in the doorway of the family home by a fellow doctor. He was rushed to Chelsea and Westminster Hospital (where he worked) but could not be revived. He died one day after their tenth wedding anniversary.

A post-mortem exam revealed the cause of death to have been dilated cardiomyopathy.
