Kate Nelligan is a Canadian actress best known for her role as Lila Wingo Newbury in the 1991 feature film The Prince Of Tides, which earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress.

She has had other notable film roles in movies such as Frankie and Johnny (1991), Fatal Instinct (1993), Wolf (1994), How to Make an American Quilt (1995), Up Close & Personal (1996), U.S. Marshals (1998), and The Cider House Rules (1999).

Nelligan had the lead role in the 2004 mini-series Human Cargo, which won seven Gemini Awards (the Canadian equivalent of the Emmy Awards) in 2004.

Her co-star in Human Cargo - South African actress Nthati Moshesh - was one of the award winners, taking home the Geimini for Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Supporting Role in a Dramatic Program or Mini-Series.

For her performances in Blessed Stranger: After Swiss Flight 111 (2001) and Million Dollar Babies (1996) Nelligan received Gemini nominations for Best Performance for an Actress in a Leading Role in a Dramatic Program or mini-series.

She was honoured by a Genie for her work in Margaret's Museum (1996).

Nelligan was nominated for an Academy Award for her performance in Prince of Tides, directed by Barbra Streisand and starring Streisand and Nick Nolte.

For her work in Gary Marshall's film Frankie and Johnny, she won the D.W. Griffith and the BAFTA Award.

For The Road to Avonlea, she received both an Emmy Award and a Gemini Award (1993).

The Diamond Fleece, directed by Al Waxman brought her the Gemini for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Dramatic Role (1993). Her work in Patricia Rozema's White Room also garnered a Genie nomination (1991).

Trained in London and a member of both the National Theatre of Great Britain and the Royal Shakespeare Company, her North American stage credits are impressive.

Nelligan has received four Tony nominations: for Spoils of War; Serious Money (Royal Theatre); Moon for the Misbegotten (Court Theatre) and Plenty (Plymouth Theatre).
